Chelsea Update

Chelsea:  It’s truly a wonderful thing when animal advocacy groups can keep their focus on the animal and work together towards one goal. I truly admire the rescue groups who we have been fortunate enough to help. May God always watch over them. ~ diana

“Please help us welcome Chelsea to NBS Animal Rescue! This poor little girl was found by a wonderful supporter who contacted us to see if we could help give this little lady some much needed TLC.

Chelsea was so badly matted and dirty that she couldn’t move freely, was barely able to see around the matted fur on her nose and face, had horrendously painful mats in her armpit area, her tail was completely matted to the bone with lots of burs, sticks and dirt stuck to her fur. Her ears were 2-3 times as thick as they should be because of the matting on both the outside and the inside of her ear canal, and the poor darling had matted fur that made a sort of “boot” around all of her paws that left her paw pads completely covered and long nails poking through starting to curl under.

She was kind enough to let our volunteers try to remove some of the burs, but it was quickly evident that in order to help this little one feel better she was going to need to be completely shaved under anesthesia to help her avoid the pain of removing the mats. Our wonderful friends at 4 Paws 1 Heart very kindly agreed to help us get Chelsea the grooming care she needed so that we could further assess her medical needs. The amazingly awesome Gina and staff at the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center anesthetized Chelsea and worked diligently for over an hour to carefully remove the severely matted fur that was causing Chelsea so much pain. After waking up from her anesthesia Chelsea was a MUCH happier girl – she got down on the vet’s office floor, ran around the room, hopped up on our volunteers legs to say hello, shook off the remaining little fluffy hairs, and wagged her tail like all was well with the world again!

Chelsea is HW negative, received her DHPP and Rabies vaccine, and visited the wonderful folks at Bingo Pet Salon today for a bath and nail trim. Because Chelsea’s matting was so incredibly severe and painful, she has a bit of a patchy coat right now as some areas of her body had to be shaved down to the skin just to remove the mats as they were literally pulling her skin taught. Once Chelsea’s bruises, minor scabs, and skin irritation begins to heal and her her starts to re-grow our friends at Bingo will giver her a full body groom to even her out and make her even more beautiful than she already is.

Chelsea slept well after her big day, and is happily romping with her foster fur friends, enjoying playing with new toys, and doing well with figuring out this potty outside thing. =)

Chelsea will be available for adoption after her vetting is completed next week. She’s a sweet little lady who sends her love out to Jess, the wonderful woman who found her and sought help for her, Gina and the staff at Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center for making her so much more comfortable, 4 Paws 1 Heart for generously covering the anesthesia fee and vet visit to help this little one feel no more pain, and Bingo Pet Salon for their patience and gentle touch. ~ Rebecca”

Faith Update

Faith Update:  I had the extreme pleasure of meeting this sweetheart today. Not only is she beautiful but she is the sweetest!!! 4 Paws 1 Heart is so thankful to be able to help Faith on her road to recovery. Thank You to A Rejoyceful Rescue and foster mom, Tina, for making this possible. ~ diana

This is Faith, who many have heard about. Her story made the Macomb Daily. A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue has her under their care with Foster Mom Tina. Faith had her first Aquatic session today to help her get used to the water and to learn

to swim. She ended up having a successful day today as Foster Mom & Dad were there to encourage her and support her. After removing her life jacket, Faith actually did some swimming. Boy! Was she ever proud of herself and feeling good when she was done!! Hopefully we can now move forward with swim sessions intended to help her. A BIG “Thank You” to 4 Paws 1 Heart for donating medical funds for her first round of sessions. We all thank them for contributing to Faith’s care.

Happy Tails to Madeline & Camryn

Happy to bring everyone great news!! Again, thank you to our angel, Gina DeLuca, who took care of the three babies from the time they were six days old, and a big thank you to NBS for taking over when they were ready to be adopted. ~ diana

From consulting with their veterinarian to ensure proper feeding schedules and setting up their final vaccination appointment to researching the best puppy food available to preparing a puppy pen they can safely play and sleep in – these gentlemen went out of their way to make Madeline and Camryn’s transition into their new home a welcoming and comforting experience. Just LOOK at that toy chest they put together for the pups – now that is a treasure chest full of hours of puppy fun! Welcome to the NBS Family Darren and Peter! Happy Tails Madeline & Camryn! Ginger Update

Just wanted to share this update on Ginger who was rescued by our friend Lauren Melcher of Vigilante Dog Rescue. We were very happy to be there for Ginger and thrilled that she is doing so well! ~ diana

Ginger update- Ginger just had a follow up vet visit, and to everyone’s amazement and joy, her ear has somehow, against all odds, managed to heal on it’s own to the point where it will not need amputated!! She has also gained quite a bit of weight- over ten pounds!! All her open wounds are healing beautifully, her scabs falling off as old wounds finally fully heal, and her temperment, oh her temperament! She is a loving, happy, completely non-aggressive girl who just LOVES everyone, even when they’re giving her her shots! She is an absolutely wonderful girl who will be looking for her furever home in no time. For now, she will continue making everyone laugh with her antics and goofball personality. THANK YOU to everyone who helped us afford her care- especially 4 Paws 1 Heart, who made an incredible $300 donation to our vet towards her care. There is now one less dog on the streets, suffering, starving, fighting for life, and instead loving her new life as it was truly meant to be. We will post new photos of our gorgeous girl later today- wait till you see what a miracle has transpired!

Elliot Got a Home For Christmas

HAPPY NEWS! Our little guy Elliott that was dumped a couple weeks ago in the Target parking lot at Eastland now has a forever home! He checked out to be totally healthy and, he will be in a very loving home this Christmas;) He is going to make a wonderful addition to his new home! ~ Gina

Update on Daisy

Update on Daisy:  We did not do the amputation surgery on Daisy tonight because after re-taking radiographs it was decided that it would be best to hold off on the procedure. To our surprise, Daisy has a healing fracture on her right pelvis that must have taken place during whatever trauma caused the broken femur. We don’t want to consider removing the leg until she is fully capable of compensating with only one leg. Plus, Daisy is weight bearing on the bad leg which has healed nicely compared to the last x rays. We will wait for now and recheck her in a month. She is doing so wonderful in her foster home and 4 Paws 1 Heart thanks Heroes for Homeless Animals for taking such wonderful care of Daisy! You guys are great!! ~ Gina

Elliot Update

Elliot Update:
“Gina

Elliot is very happy and busy. On Saturday, he explored the entire house.
JJ played with him for 2 hours, and then JJ was tired–Elliot kept on going.
He is eating well, and using his litter pan. He is playing now in the sunroom. I am glad to have given him a home.

Update on Angel and Shiner

Update on Angel and Shiner:  As all of you may know by now, Angel has passed on to a greater place and is no longer in pain.  She leaves us with her brother Shiner who is getting stronger every day.  The Detroit Bully Corps (DBC) met with the Animal Control Officers in Sterling Heights and they decided to present the case to their detectives.  The City is now presenting the cast to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.  The DBC has asked that letters supporting justice for Angel and Shiner be sent to them.  I am sharing my letter. Please take a few moments and send a respectful letter letting the prosecutor and others know how you feel about animal cruelty. The e-mail address is [email protected]. I would add your address and telephone number to the letter. Thanks ~ diana

To Whom It May Concern:

Regarding: Animal Cruelty Case – Angel and Shiner

First, I would like to thank you for following through with this very sad and disturbing case of animal cruelty. In the two years since I co-founded 4 Paws 1 Heart, a 501c3 organization which funds medical treatment for abandoned, stray, and abused companion animals, I thought I had seen some of the very worst that alleged humans can do to defenseless animals. But, this case, which is beyond comprehension let alone sense, frightens me to my very core. To think that a person who accepted the responsibility of caring, sheltering, and feeding two innocent dogs would let them starve to near death in front of her own eyes and at her own hands is unconscionable and should be unacceptable and punishable in today’s society.

I know that criminal charges and sentences must follow the laws established by the legislators. I have sent several letters over the years supporting bills sponsored by Senator Bieda and others regarding stiffer penalties for animal cruelty and dog fighting. I also know that you have leeway to charge on the low-end of the law and accept probation as a sentence. I beg you for the sake of our community, our children, and these animals who must depend on us, please prosecute this case to the full extent of the law. Please do whatever you can to use all of the resources available to you to ensure this person is taken out of our community for the maximum period allowed by law. Any person who could watch the slow death and destruction of a living being is one that could not be trusted and should not be allowed to live without consequence for her actions.

I truly believe that we have become a “throw away” society — all too willing to discard our elderly, our children, and, our most vulnerable, our companion animals. Please help us in setting the example and the standard for the future. A society who continues to allow such wanton killing is one that will eventually be doomed.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Gini the Torti Cat

A friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart contacted us needing help with a rescued kitten. Here’s her follow-up letter to us. We’ll let all of you know if Gini needs a forever home. I want to say Thank You to Maria and her daughter for saving this baby and giving us the opportunity to help. ~ diana

“Thank you: My daughter and I are so grateful to you and the support of 4 Paws 1 Heart, for your care and attention to Gini the cat. (We can tell she is thankful too.) This meant so much to us and we now look forward to Gini’s healing. 4 Paws 1 Heart is in our hearts.
