Merry Christmas from Halo (aka Jingles)

1010813_876119672420332_6935070212029984825_n12/23/14 – We love hearing from our friends who have adopted the babies we’ve helped with not only their medical bills but where Gina and the hospital staff made such an investment. Here is our Jingles (aka Halo) and his transformation. Here is the message we just received from Carol (his mom) and his updated photo. Pure Love – diana“He was brought in to Gina at the clinic on New Years day last year…frostbitten, starving, and very sick. She kept him at the clinic for two weeks, then I took him home. Well, now he weighs over 15 lbs. and healthy. I can’t get over how well-behaved he is! He loves looking out the windows at the birds and squirrels all day long! I tried to take his picture under the tree, but he won’t sit still, so this will have to do. Merry Christmas! ~ Carol”

Pregnant and Alone – Looking For a Quiet Home to Have and Nurse Her Babies

12/24/14 – Happy Christmas Eve Morning! We need the help of our friends to share this pregnant sweetheart who was found in Emmet, Michigan wandering in the early snow of November. Our 4p1h friend, Michelle, has been caring for her and has regularly taken her to the vet but Mama really needs a safe place where it is quiet and without a lot of animals so that she can nurse her babies (once they are born) without worry. Mama doesn’t seem to like cats and Michelle is very sure that she was at one time someone’s pet who was just dumped in the rural area as so many are. If anyone would like to take this sweetheart in and foster until everyone can get a home, please contact Michele at 586-839-7215. Thanks, dianamichelleboran-pregnantcat12:23:14

Sammi -Three Years Ago, We Thought He Wouldn’t Survive

12/24/14 – More Christmas Happiness from our friend and Sammi’s mom, Dori Bingham. Sammi was brought into the emergency in September, 2011. Eight-week old Sammi was dying of parvo and had a broken neck; the owner brought him in to be euthanized. Instead, the staff talked the owner into surrendering him to 4 Paws 1 Heart. After intensive medical treatment and a lot of love and attention from our Gina, Sammi survived and was adopted to a phenomenal family who continues to be friends and active supporters of 4 Paws 1 Heart. Here is what Sammi looked like when he was brought in and what he looks like today after 3+ years of love and affection. ~ dianaSammi9:19:11 Sammi12:24:14

Trap, Neuter, Release – Making A Difference

A testament to trap/neuter/release from one of our friends.  Just to clarify, in the process of TNR many kittens have been found and determined to be adoptable and thus found forever homes.  In other cases, many of the unaltered cats were at one time pets who were either lost or thrown out. ~ diana

“Good morning Diana! How is little Blitzen doing with her paw? I pray for her and that it can be saved. Do you realize that other then the 4 kittens I found in the rain (the ones that all died from fip) from my neighbors yard, there were no new kittens born in my neighborhood this year?!?! Thanks to 4 Paws 1 Heart and the ones I got fixed before I met you (about 8 of them). Thank you for all your help in getting all these sweethearts spay and neutered. Its the first time in the 5 years I’ve been here that there weren’t at least 5-7 litters of kittens born on my street under decks! We’ve made amazing headway and have made a huge difference in my area preventing homeless animals giving birth to more homeless animals. Three of us on my street now have heated warming mats in shelters and heated feeding and water bowls. So the remaining ferals will all be warm and toasty and their water and food will not be frozen! Yay!!! The mats and bowls were all donated by the couple that adopted the one-eyed cat, Harriet. She is thriving and doing amazing! I’m so grateful and blessed to have gotten involved in rescue; it’s the most rewarding thing Ive ever done in my life. And I’ve met the most caring, giving people, yourself and Tony included! Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and I hope I get a foster soon! Much love, Dee”

Keller – His Eyes Were Removed But He Can See Love

12/21/14 – 10846207_874827159216250_3598679033860548795_n 10429304_874827229216243_2694327701625156910_nMore Good Morning Cuteness from our Keller! Many thanks to Pat for taking such good care of our boy. For our new friends, here is Keller’s story. And although it was necessary for him to have both eyes removed, he is having the best life ever. Here he is when he first came to us and today wishing all of our friends a Merry Christmas:

8/11/13 Someone heard his cry outside… Imagine being lost, alone, scared, hungry, terrified, and not able to see. Well… This kitten about 10 weeks old was found with an abnormality to both eyes leaving him without sight and more than vulnerable to the dangers surrounding him like cars, etc. When the good Samaritan called me because they wanted to know if “4 paws 1 heart” would help, I said yes, and met her in a parking lot where she delivered this scared helpless kitten to me… He is now being treated medically by us and he will go see a specialist soon. If there is someone who can foster him on a temporary basis for me please contact me asap. He is a “special needs” kitten and he will need daily eye meds until we know more. He is using the litter box, eating and drinking fine and in a small spare room. He loves to be held and he loves attention, and he is giving little kisses of appreciation. A true little angel.. Gina

Tobias – Still Looking For His Forever Home

12/21/14 – Don’t forget that our boy Tobias is still looking for his forever home. E-mail me at [email protected] if you would like an application. Thanks, Jessica! ~ diana
“Knowing how Tobias was hurt and let down by humans before makes his love and puppy kisses even sweeter… He may have had a rough start to life but he now knows what it is to be loved, is learning that he is safe, and I pray he never knows anything but love again. #fosterlove”

Bricks – Helping Our Rescue Friends

12/20/14 – This sweet 12-14 week-old puppy, who still has his baby teeth, was seen being tossed out on the streets and was rescued by Friends of Scooby. He had a broken tooth and an abscess in his jaw and now may have the Parvo Virus. We are always happy to help our rescue friends with the medical bills that so often can be overwhelming. Please say a few prayers for Bricks. ~ diana

12/24/14 Update:  After four days of struggling and, at times worsening, Bricks now seems to be on the road to recovery.  Follow her story on the Friends of Scooby facebook page. ~ diana

Martin – Frostbitten Ears and an Injured Paw

12/18/14 – Meet Martin – This sweetheart was found wandering in the Chesterfield Township, MI area. His ears were frostbitten and his paw was injured. Of course, 4 Paws 1 Heart agreed to pay for a visit to the veterinarian. Martin is between 1 and 2 years old and only weighs 7 lbs. He won’t sit still because he just want to be held and petted. It turned out that he was microchipped but when phone numbers on record were called, no one wanted to claim him. So this little sweetheart is available for adoption. He is neutered and his paw just needed to be treated for an infection. If you want to give this baby a forever home, contact Jo at [email protected] thanks, diana10438323_873195686046064_2943238414754389611_n

Katniss Everdeen – Still Looking For That Perfect Home

12/18/14 – We have disappointing news about what we thought would be Katniss’ forever home. First let me say that the family chosen would have been the absolute perfect family who could give Katniss everything she would ever need. And, although Katniss and the other family pet got along very well during their two long visits (you can see that from the recently-posted photo), it became apparent that Katniss was not a good match for the 14 year old family pet and we could not put either dog in jeopardy. As we’ve said before, Katniss is very smart and is a great, sweet dog. But as with humans, the outside appearance is not always indicative of what is going on inside. There is no doubt that Katniss was abused and for how long, we don’t know. We do know that she was in that small carrier long enough to have impacted three discs in her spine. We do know that when she gets too much attention, she gets overwhelmed. And now we know that Katniss is definitely a dominant dog. This doesn’t mean she can’t have a playmate but it does mean that the playmate needs to hold her own. Remember, Katniss probably went her entire short life getting no attention or when she did, it was abusive. When she gets overwhelmed from too much stimulation, she growls and needs to get away from the stimulant. A human who understands the situation can react properly but an animal, especially one who can be dominated as in the case of this family’s dog, cannot. Katniss enjoyed playing with her and she wants to have a friend but when the playing got too rough and Katniss got overwhelmed, it put everyone in a position of being cautious and deciding that under the current make up of the household, we would be setting Katniss up to fail. The family is heartbroken, as are we. The man of the household was the first man Katniss ever seemed to trust totally — in fact the first time they met, she literally rolled on her back and let him rub her belly. So, once again, we are looking for that perfect home for our girl Katniss Everdeen. Gina will be going through all of the current applications again but we would be happy to take in more applications. Again, Katniss needs a loving home who can provide her with love, understanding, and discipline. The family should not have any young children or pets easily dominated or larger than Katniss; dogs who could pose a danger to her weakened spine. Katniss is absolutely on a journey and we know there is that special person/household who will join her on the next leg of her journey.
