Hero – Rescued from Hoarders – Spay/Neuter is Critical

5/25/17 – And this is why spay/neuter is so critical. When there is an overpopulation of animals, rescue can become hoarding and then it becomes animal cruelty. Donate, foster, adopt — it takes a village. ~ diana

“5/24/15 – Never Turn Your Back ~ diana

“On May 1 several TNR volunteers went to a residence in Garden City for TNR and discovered a “Hoarding House of Hell”. These volunteers worked diligently in hazmat conditions to pull 15 cats and kittens alive from the premises. Efforts are still underway regarding the aftermath of that day and to deal with the residents of that house. Hero is one of the lucky ones who made it out alive. Thank you to Tail Wagger’s and PAWS of Michigan for foster homes and to 4 Paws 1 Heart for assistance with medical needs ~ Jeanine D.”

“My name is Hero. I don’t know what that means – actually, I don’t even know what it means to have a name – but the ladies who pulled me from the garage from the Hoarding house of Hell said it was because I never gave up and I am their hero. I guess that is a good thing.

I remember that day. I couldn’t stand up. I wasn’t even hungry anymore, I had been hungry for so long that it finally went away. I heard all of these people voices. They were saying things like, “do we have them all?” and “where else should we look?”. I didn’t really like people voices because they were so mean, but these people voices were different. So I meowed. It was hard, but it made the voices stop and say things like, “did you hear that?” and “ I think I hear something, where is it coming from?”. So I kept meowing, and I kept meowing as loud as I could and suddenly the garage door went up and light came in and someone grabbed me and put me in something they called a live trap. I still don’t know what that was, but I could breathe. I couldn’t stand up, but it didn’t matter. There was food in there and the trap place was covered up and the ladies with the voices carried me away, away from where I could not get out, where there was no food, where it was dirty and hot.

I don’t remember a lot about the next few days. I saw lots of people called doctors and techs. I got lots and lots of something called medicine. And I got food…..and water….and it was warm, but not hot…….and clean……and there was a place called a litter box for you know what.

I started to see again, but I just kept my head down and looked down all of the time. It was too hard to hold my head up and it was still hard to walk. But the ladies had such nice voices and soft touches. My skin and fur was so, so dirty and itchy, but I got a bath and the hard parts called mats got shaved off. All of the bugs that kept biting my skin and my ears were suddenly gone. The ladies said medicine made them go away. And lots of medicine made it easier to breath and see and hear.

I am in a bunch of things called crates that are hooked together and I can walk now, and I walk from one end to the other. I am strong enough now to climb on these things called shelves. I can see – I love looking outside and feel the fresh air blowing on me. And I love looking at the ladies, they have soft voices and soft touches. It doesn’t hurt to go in the litter box anymore. And there is always food and water. Whenever I want. I don’t feel hungry anymore.
I hear the ladies talk sometimes about the Hoarding House of Hell and the garage there where I was. They call it a prison. I just remember that I could not get out, or move around, or have anything to eat or drink. And it smelled so, so bad.

The ladies say that when they pulled me out I was severely malnourished, had multiple infections, ear mites, fleas, impacted anal glands, eye and ear infections, deep respiratory congestion, balding spots, severe matting, and missing teeth. I don’t know what any of those things are. I think my teeth left my mouth when I got kicked or hit or something. That side of my face still hurts sometimes.
Sometimes I still remember the Hoarding House of Hell, but the ladies tell me that where I am now is what it is really like to live, that most people really are nice and take care of their animals. I didn’t believe them at first – it felt safer to just keep my head down and not look at anyone – but now I think maybe they might be right. And I love looking up! ~ Hero”

Fundraiser – Thank YOU to Blackfinn Ameripub, Fox 2’s Roop Raj, and Tito Vodka

5/24/17 – Because of the Blackfinn Ameripub – Partridge Creek, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, our dear friend and celebrity bartender, Fox2’s Roop Raj, and our loyal supporters, we will be able to spay/neuter and vaccinate 87 community and adoptable cats. Remember that a female cat can have three litters a year, with an average of 5 kittens per litter — that’s 15 kittens a year for the nearly entire life of that female. And, if those kittens are not spayed/neutered, the awful cycle continues. We are committed to reducing the over population of abandoned and stray animals and this is why we are so grateful for our generous business community and faithful donors. Here are some of the cats we have recently helped. ~ dianakitten w:cristen jean w:5:24:17=== kittens w:cristen--jean 5:24:17 kittens w:cristenjean 5:24:17

Grace (aka Jackie) – Rescued with a Severe Respiratory

5/23/17 – Grace was a very sick kitty when she was rescued by our 4p1h friend, Jeanine D. She had a severe upper respiratory infection and was very emaciated. With the help of 4 paws 1 heart, Grace was immediately taken to the doctor where they did blood work, tested her, and treated her for her upper respiratory infection. She was eventually spayed and vaccinated when she became healthy and now she is in her forever home with a new name — Jackie. It is only with your support and donations that we can continue to help the abandoned and abused. Donations can be made through paypal by using the donation link on this page or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080 ~ dianaGrace w:jeanine dotson 5:7:175/23/17 Update from Grace’s (aka Jackie) Mom:

Jack is about as sassy as they come. She wants all of the attention all the time, has learned how to play with toys (and chase her own tail), and is obsessed with the 60lb dog. She had pretty gnarly eye and ear infections as well as the URI, was quite emaciated at 2.4 lbs, and tested FelV+, but she sure doesn’t let that slow her down. She has a cataract on her eye that has healed over- it will always look cloudy and she does not have full vision out of it, but I don’t think she knows the difference.

Jenny – Shot in the Leg, Emaciated, and Covered with Scars

5/22/17 – Please pray for Jenny. We recently received the following message from Bully Love Rescue asking if we could help.
“Jenny had been seen roaming the streets for about a week before a good Samaritan was able to lure her into their home the night of May 11. She’s been shot in her back left leg, she’s emaciated, has a severe skin infection, and is covered with scars. Jenny’s upper canines are broken down to the gum line and several of the smaller teeth are gone; her gum on the left upper side is even worn way down and, to top it off she’s heart-worm positive. It was initially believed that she was a senior but she’s only 1 or 2 years old. Jenny is a very loving girl that simply wants to lean on you and be loved on. She was brought to me on May 12th and is currently being treated with antibiotics. Unfortunately, Jenny’s broken teeth are starting to abscess but nothing can be done until heart worm treatment is completed. Consequently, the veterinarian has recommended that Jenny’s pre-heart worm treatment be cut short by two weeks.”

4 Paws 1 Heart is paying for Jenny’s heart worm treatment in hopes that she can soon be on the road to recovery. It breaks our heart to think of what this poor animal has experienced in her very short life and just pray with all of you that she can be healthy and loved for once in her life. ~ dianajenny w:terissa kerr 5:17:17

Violet – Rescued from the Street; Now BFF to Carla

5/21/17 – Meet our little Carla’s new best friend – Violet. Little six-week old Violet was rescued by our dear friend and animal whisperer, Dee Najera. 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for her initial doctor visit and plans were made for Violet to go to our friends at the Ferndale Cat Shelter. When Violet was first brought into Dee’s home, Carla hissed and spit at Violet. I guess she was a little upset about having to share her ‘baby in the family’ status. But, guess what? The hissing stopped and the playing began and now the two are inseparable. Spunky Violet is showing Carla how to be a kitten and the family thinks that this is what Carla needs to help her recovery from ‘paralyzed kitty’ to ‘independent kitty’. So — Violet, mentor kitty, won’t be going anywhere right now. ~ dianaviolet w:dee najera 5:19:17violet w:dee najera 5:20:17

Tobi – In His Forever Home

5/19/17 – Tobi Update! Remember the pup that we recently helped that needed his leg amputated? Well here he is thriving very well with his new furry friends. What’s even better is he will be living with Bruno!
Bruno was one of the pups from the litter of 5 that I hand-raised last year. (See the story of the Shih Tzu Five on our website, 4paws1heart.org) I’m so happy we were able to give Tobi a second chance by paying for the medical he needed. It is because of all of you and our amazing support system. Now he has a wonderful family and a forever home where he will be showered with endless unconditional love. ♡♡♡♡ Gina

Boomer, Blake, Bethany – Rescued During Trap/Neuter/Return

5/19/17 – 4 Paws 1 Heart’s mission is to “Reduce the number of homeless animals by funding medical treatment for abandoned and stray companion animals”. In keeping with our mission, we are always happy to support those who work tirelessly in caring for community cats. This includes feeding, trapping, transporting to and from veterinary clinics, finding homes for the non-feral, and more often than not using their own funds. Cristen is one of those many people who we’ve been honored to assist. This is Boomer, Blake, and Bethany. Boomer and Blake are thought to be the males who have been impregnating several females in a cat community recently found by Cristen. Five mothers have been found with kittens. The kittens are being placed while the moms and males are being spayed/neutered and returned to the community (as appropriate). Please remember that it truly takes a village to make a difference. ~ dianaboomer and blake w:cristen jean 5:15:17bethany w:cristen jean 5:19:17

King – Purposely Pushed Down the Stairs

5/19/17 UPDATE: King had his surgery and was also neutered in the process. He is doing well but was a little uncomfortable the first night. His rescuer spent the night on the couch next to King in his crate. Please pray that King can be placed in a loving home. ~ diana

5/18/17 – King was purposely pushed down the stairs of an upper flat because he chewed up some window blinds and ‘play nipped’ the children. King is only 5 months old and weighs 35 pounds and now his hip is broken. The doctor said the injury is similar to what would happen if he had been hit by a car. King has been surrendered to a rescue friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart and we will pay for King’s surgery and rehabilitation. I know people will ask if criminal charges have been pursued but, quite honestly, the police and prosecutors in this particular City, have a great deal on their plates and animal abuse is, unfortunately, very low on their priority lists. ~ dianaking w:lori stephens 5:15:17 --king w:lori stephens--5:15:17king w:loristephens 5::15:17

Precious – Adopted from a Texas Rescue Only to Find She is Heart Worm Positive

5/16/17 – Prayers for Precious. A friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart contacted us in hopes we could assist. Her grandmother recently adopted this sweetie from a rescue in Texas (no judging). Unfortunately, when she had Precious examined by her vet, she learned that Precious has heart worm. When she contacted the rescue, the rescue ignored her and Precious’ need for treatment. Obviously this was not expected and the grandmother could not afford the medical and would have had to give up Precious. We will cover Precious’ heart worm treatment but I also want to use this situation as a warning to those looking for an animal to adopt. Please make sure you do your homework and work with reputable rescues and shelters who are local. There is no reason to search out of State when there are so many abandoned and stray animals in our rescues and shelters. ~ dianaprecious w:nikki rackley - heart worm 5:6:17precious wnikki rackley 5:6:17
