Hoarding Homes – Breed Disease, More Cats, and Injuries

2/17/21 – The challenge of 2020/2021. These cats were all recently removed from ‘hoarding homes”. We understand that people who find themselves in this situation often believe they are helping the animal by taking them off of the streets. But, often they do not have the funds to spay/neuter, vaccinate, or take care of contagious illnesses and then all hell breaks loose. Our rescue friend, Dawn Peters and her group recently rescued these innocent animals and asked for our help in getting everyone tested, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any other issues they may have made. Anyone interested can contact Dawn at: [email protected]
Don’t forget the Valentine Match is still going on. All donations made up to $1,000 will be matched by a very dear friend and animal rescuer. – diana

Micky – Update

2/16/21 – In the meantime, here is an update on Micky who was saved along with 4 others by two caring women. Mickey was a priority in that he seemed to be missing an eye and was in pretty bad shape. On February 11 Micky was seen by Dr. Zalac at Orion Animal Hospital. Dr. Z advised that Micky has a congenital eye issues and the eye would need to be removed and closed up. Because he has more pressing issues, it was not done that day. Micky’s wrist is broken and he has a ‘rip’ inside in elbow with some infection in the bone. He is only 10-12 months although the rescuers thought he was years old. Unfortunately, he is FIV positive but the rescuers have been in touch with someone who has found placement for FIV cats. Dr. Z said that Micky has been in a lot of pain (makes me heartsick to think how many Mickys are out there). Dr. Zalac neutered Micky, cleaned his leg wounds, cleaned his eyes, and put revolution on a “weird” parasite found on his skin. He will have a follow-up appointment next week. At that time, we will know when his eye surgery should be scheduled.
Remember that your donations truly Save Lives. These animals depend on the village of rescuers, doctors, fosters, adopters, and 4 Paws 1 Heart. We will always be there for them as long as funds are available. – diana

Mason – He Was Having Grande Mal Seizures and His Owners Couldn’t Care for Him

2/16/21 – Mason was an owner surrender. The owners reached out to Streethearts when the dog started having Grand Mal seizures and he was also vomiting and having diarrhea. They had no financial means to get this dog any help and he had never been to a vet before. Streethearts immediately picked him up and got him to the vet on 2/5 where he was seen and treated by a specialist. He was discharged 4 days later and is in a temporary foster home being monitored. Streethearts reached out to us, once again, because they have had a number of serious medical cases over the past few weeks with dogs in the Flint area. Fortunately, we were also able to pay for Mason’s treatment. – diana

Onyx – Update

2/16/21 – A happy update on a very difficult morning when all of us are worrying about all of the innocent strays who have no home and are on the streets with 8″ of snow, ice, and high winds.
Hopefully, you will remember beautiful Onyx. We don’t know how she was injured–her toe was mangled and her leg was also damaged. She may have been caught in an engine fan and then got frostbite when she got out. Well, yesterday, Onyx had her second visit with Dr. Zalac of Orion Hospital. Although we were concerned that both would need amputation, Dr. Z, prescribed medical baths with antibiotics and yesterday we received the good news that Dr. Z believed Onyx would not need her leg removed. Although her gums are still pale, she is getting stronger and will be able to have flea treatment during her next visit. Thanks for all of your prayers and support for all of these sweet animals. – diana

Shelby – Found With a “Blind Eye” and and Eye Needing Surgery

2/15/21 – 12 week old Shelby, who was surrendered to Streethearts Animal Rescue on February 3, 2021. The person stated that she was found outside and that she could not keep her. Shelby weighed only 10 pounds and should have weighed 15, plus she had a “horrible” blind eye that required enucleation and the other eye has entropion eyelashes (the lashes grow inward, touching the eye). The entropion surgery will have to wait until she recovers from the eye removal, which we covered, and has gained some weight. The doctor did not want to keep her under anesthesia too long. She had the eye removal surgery last week and was kept over night. Shelby is doing well at this time.
There are far too many animals being abandoned, surrendered, or born on the streets with no one to turn to. Thank you to our many supporters and please, don’t forget, that with the generosity of a very good friend, we do have a $1,000 VALENTINE MATCH going on right now. All donations made up to $1,000 over the next two weeks will be matched. – diana

Jax – Found With Icicles Hanging From Him

2/12:21 – This has truly been an overwhelming week with hoarding situations, eye and leg surgeries, heart worm, frozen cats, and just the ‘normal’ cases. Thank you to our very amazing friends who continue to support us in some very difficult times. Now is the time to double your donation!- diana

“Won’t you just look at this handsome boy Jax! He was on his own and fending for himself for quite awhile. We were told he may belong to someone in the area but when mom saw him with icicles hanging from him we knew nobody cared about Jax. So mom set up the trap on our front porch and within 5 minutes she had him! Now he’s safe, warm and Monday he will recieve his vetting and will be ready for a real family of his own. But that couldnt happen without donations. – Chance”

Charlie – Caught in a Car Engine

Onyx – Update

2/11/21 – Updates:
ONYX – We’ll never know how it happened but the rescuer and foster believe that she was probably trying to keep warm in a car engine and was injured and then got frostbite on the injuries. She was seen by one of the best, Dr. Zalac, at Orion Animal Hospital, where Dr. Z was committed to trying to save Onyx’s toe and let — both severely damaged. Onyx is with her foster, Carol, who has been following doctor’s orders by soaking her paws and legs in a medical bath as well as giving her a number of meds. The goal is to save her toe and leg from amputation.
SATIN – A beautiful girl who found her rescuer in a corner store. She had been obviously overbred and then thrown out, as so many female dogs once they are no longer of use. When rescued, Satin had two large lumps in two of her nipples. She saw a vet yesterday and it was determined that Satin has mammary cancer and the level is 5 out of 6. She was also found to have a severe ear infection. The doctor gave medication for her infection and the rescuer will be giving her much love and care until she crosses over the rainbow bridge. As many rescuers have said to me, “Sometimes it is difficult to like humans”. Requesting prayers for both of these sweet animals. – diana

Micky – Found During Frigid Temperatures; One Infected Eye; Severe Bite Wound and a Urinary Tract Infection

2/10/21 – This is Micky (aka Fernando), rescued with four 6-month old kittens. All of them have been fed by a kind woman who works where they have gathered. The other night all were finally trapped in the bitter cold temperatures. Micky, who is a senior guy is in very bad condition. He has one eye that appears to be missing and draining, he has an upper respiratory infection, his front leg has a severe bite wound, and he may have a thyroid issue, and an urinary tract infection. Micky will also need to be neutered, vaccinated, tested, and treated for fleas/parasites. Micky will be seeing one of our favorite doctors at Orion Animal Hospital. The rescuers believe that all cats are adoptable and will work to make sure that they are. More to follow. – diana
