7/5/23 – Will man’s cruelty ever end??? This sweetheart, Meadowbrooke, was saved when her meowing was heard by a kind stranger. Just 6-7 weeks old, she was found in a bag in a dumpster. I got the call from one of our favorite vet hospitals and was asked if we could cover the medical if two of the staff members, Stephanie and Courtney, took on her fostering and future adoption. Of course, i said yes!! Paws crossed for this sweet baby. – diana
Welcome aboard, Camp Chisholm. Just when I needed a break, this lil guy needed some help. So Stephanie Skrinner and I came to the rescue, because we are suckers like that! Meadowbrooke will be up for adoption after his medical care is completed. If anyone is looking for an extremely sweet and mellow kitten, Meadow is your guy! 7/5/23 – James – He was found in an area that is very unfriendly toward cats let alone sick, dirty cats. His eventual savior, Dawn P., had been contacted repeatedly about the cat and offered to bring some de-worming meds as the person who kept contacting her just mentioned that he had very bad diarrhea and was getting so thin. Unfortunately, although Dawn has rescued many cats/kitten who we’ve helped with when need, didn’t have any fosters, room in her home, or funds to do anything more for the cat. Dawn is already caring for many rescues with pending vet appointments and recently helped her father’s cat who had a blocked urinary track and became septic after the surgery. Then on a Saturday while Dawn was attending a funeral, the lady calls repeatedly begging her to come and get the cat. She said he is very weak and is laying in the street. She also said the neighbors are threatening to shoot and kill this poor cat. Dawn couldn’t ignore the need and went there and picked him up. She brought him home, set up a kennel in her garage and began treatment with Panacur and gave him some healthy food. James started eating the wet food in small portions at a time. He was filthy and had dried diarrhea all over his back side. She’s been trying to wash him with a warm wash cloth and cat shampoo. While cleaning him she saw a large very hard mass near his hip. He is a very sweet cat that is in desperate need of help. Dawn was afraid this poor cat had suffered a long time.
He is very sweet and loves to be petted. He is walking around and exploring. Dawn wrote: “I just didn’t want this poor cat left to die out there slowly or to endure a cruel act by those people.”
James was seen at one of our partner vets last week where he was treated for his diarrhea and examined. Unfortunately, he also needs to have the mass on his hip x rayed and diagnosed and the clinic was unable to do that. He will be seeing another vet for that. Paws crossed that the mass will be something curable and not cancer. – diana

7/3/23 – This is Super Nova. He was trapped as part of tnr efforts by Bobbie who had recently started a non-profit (501c3), Communities Advocating For Animals, located in Deerfield, MI (Lenawee County). Before the cat was released, Bobbie noticed he didn’t seem to be feeling well, he was beaten up with many scars on his body and had missing fur all over. Bobbie took him to one of the 4 vets in the small community and the doctor there indicated that Nova was approximately 12 years old and in a great deal of pain as a result of a severe infection of the mouth and required significant dental attention. The doctor provided pain medication while Bobbie could raise funds. We were able to provide help toward the total bill and Bobbie had surgery which included a full dental extraction. Nova will NOT be returned to the outside and will live the rest of his life receiving the attention he seems to enjoy from his new family and saviors. He enjoys relaxing in a crate when he wants and getting petted when he wants. – diana
7/3/23 – Meet Cocoa. A few weeks ago, this little girl (69 lbs) was spotted on 6 Mile and Telegraph. She had protruding ribs and was digging in a trash can. Diane, who noticed her, realized that if she tried to lure the dog into her car, there could be a bad outcome. Fortunately, 2 other people stopped. One was a dog rescuer and the other a cat rescuer. They all worked as a team, holding up traffic and trying to guide Cocoa to safety. Cocoa wobbled back into the neighborhood and huddled on a porch which, as it turned out, was the home she had lived before her family abandoned her. A neighbor confirmed that the people had moved and left Cocoa behind. Another animal lover joined the rescue team and after much effort, they were able to get Cocoa into Diane’s car.
Diane’s neighbor, Mark, agreed to take her in and it was love at first sight. Diane knew Mark needed this dog as he had, one by one. lost his three dogs to old age and illness. He named her Cocoa and started referring to himself as ‘daddy’. Diane offered to help him with expenses but could not find affordable services. Mark was ready to give up Cocoa, although, in just those few short weeks, he had quickly fallen in love with her, but he knew he could not afford the initial vetting needed in a timely period. Mark came to terms with the fact that he would have to surrender Cocoa. At approximately 1 year old, Cocoa is very sweet and affectionate.
Diane decided to make one last effort to find her owner — maybe Cocoa had not been purposely abandoned — maybe she had been stolen. So, they went to Five Mile Animal Clinic. Unfortunately the Clinic’s scanner needed charging but the staff was very busy so they planned to return.
Diane reported the following: “An angel named Carol told me about 4 Paws 1 Heart. When I spoke with Diana, I couldn’t believe the help she was making available for Cocoa. We still have to check for a chip. Fingers crossed that there isn’t one!
Thank you to all of your donors who make it possible for Cocoa to have a long, happy life with Mark.”
Cocoa did return and a microchip was not found. Cocoa will be tested for heart worm, vaccinated, and spayed; paws crossed that she will test negative for heart worm. But once we’re committed, we will be there for Cocoa. We are also confident that Cocoa will have a very loving life with her new ‘daddy’. – diana
Update on Muffins’ – She did great and she is resting right now. The staff is fantastic and we are on our way to a full recovery. She should heal wonderfully and be breathing much better soon. I will update again this weekend! Thank you all for your prayers!
We are at Animal Surgical Center in Flint to have the Stent removed from Muffins’ nasophyrengeal pharynx. Paws Crossed all goes well and that this is the FINAL visit. – Gina
7/1/23 – this has been one heck of a journey for Gina, her husband, Dave, and, of course, our little Muffins. She went from doctor to doctor searching for an answer — even Michigan State Veterinary but nothing. And then one day, months later, a glimmer of hope evolved and finally, another surgery, and 6 weeks of visits post surgery and today Muffins wakes up, finally able to breathe, enjoy food, and her new life. Someone once asked, why would you invest so much time and dollars into a stray animal. I answered that this journey was not a typical one but once you commit you have to see it through. We so very much appreciate the donations and individual fundraisers supporters have done to assist with Muffins’ bills and we especially appreciate the amazing doctor and staff of the Animal Surgical Center of Michigan.
This has been a very tough year thus far for cats and dogs and only with donations and participation in our fundraisers can we continue our mission. There is still a few more days to double your donation during the “1776 4th of July Matching” fundraiser brought to us by an honorary auntie of the Chance Team. Dear Muffins’ supporters and friends, Please join me in signing this video card to thank Doctor Stanley and her amazing team for performing an incredible and rare surgery yesterday which will allow Muffins’ to finally breathe through her nose. This morning she woke up feeling like a new kitty with pep in her step, an appetite, and smelling everything in site!!
6/29/23 – And while we’re at it — more kittens found on the streets by an overwhelmed rescue – South Mittens Kittens – who have asked for our help. This is Asia, Norman, Bosco, Bug, Princess, and Jackson. If anyone is interested in giving these sweeties a furever home, please contact the rescue. They should be ready in just a couple of weeks. – diana
6/29/23 – All found under a porch and brought to our rescue friend, Sherri N. She has asked us to help with their medical needs and we are thankful to have said YES. They will all be tested, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered thanks to the generous supporters of 4 Paws 1 Heart. – diana
