1/5/24 – Yesterday we received a call regarding a cat, Luna, which was rescued from the finder’s yard 2 weeks ago. 2 hours before we were contacted, Luna had a kitten. The finder, Yvonne, was inexperienced (like I am) with animal births and was concerned that Luna might have more than one kitten in the birth canal. She was also concerned because the kitten didn’t seem to be getting enough nourishment. I contacted a friends who gave some immediate advice and I contacted the emergency hospital and spoke to the doctor. Because the mom and baby didn’t seem to be in distress and the mom was eating and drinking, it was decided to wait until morning to have both mom and baby seen at the animal hospital. That was done this morning. X-rays were done and a not fully formed kitten was seen. The doctor was able to induce labor and treat the mom. The baby was seen and fed. I spoke with Yvonne later and our friend, Deb, who has been helping out at our request. Deb, bought special ‘premy’ nipples and Yvonne purchased some other supplies and everyone is doing good at this time. Deb was able to get the baby to eat a good deal of formula through the bottle. Yvonne is hoping to keep Luna and we will cover her snap test, vaccines and spay when appropriate; we will do the same for the baby. The baby may be up for adoption when old enough. Another crazy day in the life of those who care. – diana
