ANOTHER STORY OF LOVE AND PERSEVERANCE

1/8/24 – Thank you to our donors and those who attend our fundraisers. – diana

Hi!!!! It’s me Carla and it’s time for my story about why 4 Paws 1 Heart means so much to me

I came in March 2017 after the sweet ladies at the shelter reached out to Auntie Di and Auntie Di called mom.

So, I had a home when I was only 5wks old. Way to young to have been taken from my mama to begin with. Then the humans shut a sliding glass door on me hurting my spine. They waited 5 wks…FIVE WEEKS…before taking me to a shelter to be euthanized because I was dragging my body and not using my litter box, can you believe it?!?!? Well, the ladies at the shelter wasn’t having it and before you know it..I was at Casa Chance! 4P1H was there by my side throughout many challenges! I spent the 1st 2 yrs going to Pawsitive Steps just like Chance for rehab. Dr. Kern and the ladies did everything they could from exercise, massage, treadmill, laser, needles, I got my own wheels, mom did all the homework with me, gave me massages, used a home Tens Unit and although I made some progress, in the end it was decided I had made all the progress I was going to..the damage was just to much to overcome so we stopped my pt. I was still a very happy sweet mama’s girl and she helped me keep my muscles from atrophying and helped me do all my buisness.

Then one day mom noticed blood in my urine, off to Dr. Z! Holy cow, I got 15 bladder stones removed in surgery! Expressing my bladder and helping me poo was a bit tricky while I took the time I needed to heal. And I’ve been on prescription food ever since, wet and dry.

Good grief! What’s that??? MOM noticed a bump right by my eye and over a couple weeks it got bigger…off to Dr. Z again! Turned out it was a very aggressive form of cancer and Dr. Z kept me overnight to remove it right away. It was tricky and we were all scared becuse it was so close to my eye. Dr. Z did (as usual) an amazing job and my cancer has not come back! All these things were stacked up against me and without 4 Paws 1 Heart and their amazing donors I would not be here today, the beautiful, judgey eyed princess you see before you! Thankyou 4 Paws 1 Heart for loving me soooo much, I love you!

Soooo, please consider donating to moms 10th Annual Birthday Fundraiser so that other innocent animals with the odds stacked against them like me can go on to live a happy, healthy life in a loving home.

Thank you for your generosity, Love Carla

LUNA II

1/7/24 – Our hearts break to inform you that little Luna II crossed the Rainbow Bridge last night. She was born a little over two days ago and we all thought she was on the road to recovery. She was very small when born and it turned out that she had a sibling, not totally formed, still in her mom (see 1/5/24 post). Both were taken to the vet but last night Luna II was taken to the emergency hospital in that she was gasping for air. Unfortunately, the doctor advised that her levels were very low and recommended humane euthanasia. Luna II’s rescuer agreed to end her suffering. We wish God’s blessings on every person who doesn’t turn their back on an animal in need. Yvonne is that person and we will go on to make sure Mama Luna is healthy and we will also do what we can to help many strays who are living behind Yvonne’s property, including one current stray who recently showed up in her yard.- diana

KOBE UPDATE

1/6/24 – We were thankful to be able to help Kobe yesterday with his last heart worm treatment. Kobe was left behind after his owner moved out. When he was rescued, he was tired, hungry, and lying under a bush at the house where he used to live. Neighbors recognized him and told Make a Difference Rescue the family had moved about two weeks prior and, obviously, left him behind. After a good meal the rescue took Kobe to get examined. He had hook worms, whip worms, and was heart worm positive. He is is less than two years old and has been forced to live a horrific life. Kobe’s journey to a better, healthier life began when he was rescued in August, 2023 by an amazing rescue organization and when they contacted 4 paws 1 heart for medical assistance. You can follow Kobe’s journey on our website or the facebook page of Make a Difference Rescue. Kobe will be ready for a permanent, loving home in about 40 days. Never forget that saving the lives of innocent animals who have been let down by humans cannot be done in a vacuum — it truly takes a village. – diana

LUNA AND HER KITTEN

1/5/24 – Yesterday we received a call regarding a cat, Luna, which was rescued from the finder’s yard 2 weeks ago. 2 hours before we were contacted, Luna had a kitten. The finder, Yvonne, was inexperienced (like I am) with animal births and was concerned that Luna might have more than one kitten in the birth canal. She was also concerned because the kitten didn’t seem to be getting enough nourishment. I contacted a friends who gave some immediate advice and I contacted the emergency hospital and spoke to the doctor. Because the mom and baby didn’t seem to be in distress and the mom was eating and drinking, it was decided to wait until morning to have both mom and baby seen at the animal hospital. That was done this morning. X-rays were done and a not fully formed kitten was seen. The doctor was able to induce labor and treat the mom. The baby was seen and fed. I spoke with Yvonne later and our friend, Deb, who has been helping out at our request. Deb, bought special ‘premy’ nipples and Yvonne purchased some other supplies and everyone is doing good at this time. Deb was able to get the baby to eat a good deal of formula through the bottle. Yvonne is hoping to keep Luna and we will cover her snap test, vaccines and spay when appropriate; we will do the same for the baby. The baby may be up for adoption when old enough. Another crazy day in the life of those who care. – diana

PRETTY GIRL & TOM TOM UPDATE

1/4/24 – On December 21, 2023 we posted about Pretty Girl and Tom Tom. They were found at an abandoned house and a kind man was trying to help with food and shelter. Tom Tom was severely matted and both had upper respiratory infections. After being treated for their infections, yesterday, they were tested, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered at Orion Animal Hospital. The matts were also shaved (as you can see by the updated photos. Unfortunately, their medical is not done. Both will need dental work and that has now been approved.

Hopefully, these babies will prove to be adoptable when all is done. Thank you to our many supporters for helping us make a difference. – diana

RIP DAISY, YOUR LIFE MATTERED

1/4/24 – RIP Daisy. The following is from our Board Member, Denise:

Thank you so much for helping with Daisy’s cremation. Brandon said that Orion Animal Hospital was amazing–even giving them a keepsake with her fur in it.

Daisy (named by her rescuers) was found on Wednesday evening covered in snow & ice, near frozen, under a box truck. He was rescued by Brandon & Kaytee Dwyer. They contacted me Wednesday night and I gave instructions on how to warm and administer fluids and food. After speaking with Diana and Brandon a second time it was decided Daisy was perking up a bit and was even taking food. I was to call Orion Animal Hospital in the morning for an appointment but despite doing better Daisy didn’t make it until her appointment.

Daisy was extremely tiny, skin and bones. Missing all but one tooth and was eartipped. We will never know if she was truly friendly or feral but what we do know is that she was warm, safe and knew love in her final hours instead of dying all alone on the street frozen. Thank you Brandon, Kaytee and 4 Paws 1 Heart for loving Daisy.

Our hearts break when we can’t save them all. Prayers for the many animals on our streets, especially with the oncoming winter temperatures. And, may God bless those who never turn their backs on an animal in need.- diana

MAMA PEPPER AND HER 3 KITTENS, PRIM, FINNICK & PEETA

1/3/24 – Pulled from a cold garage in mid October, 2023. Pepper was said to have had 3 litters in her short life. The babies appeared to be underweight and still nursing when they were rescued. We were happy to help everyone eventually get spayed, vaccinated as well as Pepper tested. Hopefully, Pepper was able to be socialized so that she could be adopted into a home; the rescuer was to find homes for the sweet babies. – diana

GRACY

1/3/24 – Gracy, just a kitten, was left behind by their owners and rescued by Larry B. Larry asked for our assistance in getting her tested, vaccinated, and spayed. This was in late September. The appointment was delayed a bit for Gracy but she finally was seen at one of our partner veterinary clinics. She was vaccinated and spayed but was found positive for FeLV. Although, Larry had kept her separated from his cat, Rocky, he was concerned that Rocky may have contracted the disease. We offered to cover that testing also. Thankfully, Rocky was found negative for FIV and FeLV and was vaccinated. Larry will continue to give Gracy a home with love and care. – diana

MEET NACHO & COOPER

1/2/24 – Nacho was born in a backyard in Shelby Township, one of many kittens born this year. Most have found loving homes and the remaining kittens and adults have been TNR’d. He was trapped at about 6 months and we didn’t know if he could be socialized, however, he showed promise and has been doing great with his caretaker. Cooper was one of many kittens that ended up with the Sterling Heights animal control this year. He was at risk of being euthanized, but his rescuer saved him from that fate. He has a home waiting for him after his neuter. Both Nacho and Cooper will be seen at Comfort’s Place this week to be tested, vaccinated, and neutered. – diana
