ANIMALS LIKE “ONE EYE” ARE WHY WE ARE ASKING YOU TO VOTE FOR US WITH YOUR DOLLARS IN THE DETROIT NEWS CHARITY CONTEST

12/4/22 – In early November I received an e mail from a man who said he and his wife had been caring for a very sweet, neglected cat who was living outside. She had been coming around for food. They got him to a point of being healthy but noticed her “eye was missing and hadn’t been closed up”. She also was not spayed. The couple fell in love with her but couldn’t afford to get the veterinary help the little one needed but wanted to give her a furever home. They called her ‘One Eye’ and arrangements were made for her to be seen by one of our favorite clinics — Patterson Veterinary Hospital. She was seen by the vet shortly afterward and the doctor determined that there was an eye there but it needed to be removed. That was this past Wednesday. One Eye’s dad sent me the following message:

‘I want to thank you so much for what your organization did. Day one out of surgery and I can tell you they must have done an amazing job in there. It was pretty bad, and so extremely necessary to fix. She also seems happier like there’s some relief.

We couldn’t have done it without your help, and from the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you! When we can, how can we donate to the org? We’d like to give back some.- Brett”

There are many animals we are are asked to help that, although expensive, just need the standard vetting (testing, vaccines, spay/neuter, fleas/parasite treatment. But, unfortunately, there are still so many animals who are found needing very expensive medical care that too often is unaffordable for the good Samaritan or rescue/shelter. And, that is when 4 Paws 1 Heart is contacted and why your support is so critical. Without your support of donations and participation in fundraisers we would never have been able to help over 10,000 stray cats and dogs living in the streets or in abusive homes. And, that is why we are trying so hard to win the Detroit News Holiday Cheer for Charity worth $20,000! Just scroll down a couple of postings and click on the photo and donate what you can afford. I’ll try again to get an accurate link to the leader Board. At this time, we are in second place. Up until last night we were leading until a $5,000 donation was made to one of the other contestants who now leads. But, we know we can do it if we all come together. I liken us as a David vs Goliath and look what happened there. Thank You in advance and we will continue to be posting throughout the contest which ends December 16, 2022. – diana.

P.S. This is One Eye before her surgery; you’d never know there was an issue from the photo but very often photos can be deceiving.

SHARING FOR OUR NEW FRIENDS

12/3/22 – This is what 4 Paws 1 Heart is all about. To date, $1.7 million have been paid to local veterinarians to fund the medical treatment for the fur orphans in our communities. And everyone plays a role in our village. Of course $$$ are what keep us going because we are a very unique organization which only funds medical treatment for stray and abandoned animals. But, without good samaritans, fosters, rescuers and our veterinary staffs, there would be no need for the medical treatment. Over the years we have made a difference in the lives of over 10,000 animals and have kept thousands of unwanted animals from being born and dying on the streets because every animal we touch is spayed/neutered and vaccinated. And, just in case you think it’s not necessary — just recently we were asked to assist a litter of cats where one was found to have rabies. I have yet to hear the results of the other two kittens in the litter. This is the first time in 12 years that I have faced this situation. So, in short, please help us help those who have no one else. Right now we are working hard to get the word out and raise the most money in donations so that we can win $20,000 in the Detroit News Holiday Cheer for Charity contest. So, if you can, please share this with your family and friends and donate what you can afford because every dollar can make a difference. Just click on the Hercules banner.

FIREHOUSE PUB FUNDRAISER A BIG SUCCESS

12/2/22 – A huge thank you to the 96 supporters who came out on a cold and blustery night to support the many animals helped by 4 Paws 1 Heart. The Firehouse Pub and Grill provided delicious food and the staff and chef kept the food and refreshments coming throughout the night. David (DJ) Kurlee put his DJ skills to work being our ‘caller’— even without a mic for part of the event. And he brought the crowd to tears when he told the story of his daring rescue of his now dear Maddie, found on the side of a freeway and medically helped by 4 Paws 1 Heart.

Now we look forward to today’s (11:59 am) launch of Round 2 of the Detroit News Holiday Cheer for Charity contest where the charity who raises the most dollars in donations will win $20,000! The link to make your donations will be announced at launch. As we approach the cold, dark days of winter, we know how the need will be even greater. So, all hands on deck and paws crossed for a win! – diana

Everybody had a great time at the 4 Paws 1 Heart Show Me The Money (oops– Gift Cards) Fundraiser last night at Fireman’s Pub & Grill in St. Clair Shores raising money for homeless, abused & abandoned animals! – Denise

CHANCE UPDATE

11/30/22 – Update on our feline mascot, Chance. A lot has been ruled out but still no definitive answer to the root of Chance’s new medical issues. What does seem to be a constant is that the problem could be centered around his spinal cord. Next step will be a consult with a neurologist. Prayers for our very sweet boy! – diana.

CHANCE: Hey there Team, sooo mom spoke with Dr. O from the Animal Surgical Center of Michigan this morning about my test results.

Urinalysis 1st…No sugar, so no Diabetes! No Uti either. There was a small amount of both red & white blood cells and small amount of protein all consistent with Cystitis. But the Cystitis was very minimal and the cells within normal ranges do not the cause of my leakage.

Abdominal Ultrasound…No masses, no tumors, and my bladder walls were of normal range thickness…no bladder inflammation.

Full Body CT…No masses or cancer that ct could detect. There were some Sclerotic changes to my spine and also a narrowing of the spinal cord canal near my T3. This could be caused by my old injury, or a recent traumatic event such as a fall (which mom doesn’t think is the case since I don’t jump up on high places, it’s not completely impossible…just not likely) or I could have had a FCE “Fibrocartilaginous Embolism” …a spinal stroke.

Dr. O has a call in to the neurologist for a consult and he will be in office on Thursday to discuss next steps.

Dr. Z and Dr. Kern both have recieved the reports and Dr. Z contacted mom 1st thing and and her and mom are both in agreement to wait to see what neurologist says and then decide on my treatment plan going forward. Dr. Z as always is doing her research in the meantime to come up with a plan of what is going to be best for me going forward. Mom is doing her research too. One thing I know for sure, everybody has my best interest, comfort and quality of life in their thoughts

That’s all we know for now Team till the end of the week so stay tuned and thankyou all for your amazing support!

THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS

11/29/22 – We are overjoyed and so very grateful to our many supporters for their votes and for First State Bank’s commitment to our community, especially our animal community. Over the years, I personally have built a good relationship with the many employees of First State Bank and it is truly a community bank which cares about their neighborhoods and their customers. The $5,000 prize will be used for two dogs who have recently come to our attention needing heart worm treatment, a puppy who will need surgery for a cleft palate, and the spaying/neutering of the many kittens still being born on our streets. – Thank you, Diana and the 4 Paws 1 Heart Board of Directors
