PRAYERS FOR MAMA CALLIE

8/2/23 – Yesterday we were contacted about a very sweet cat who was thrown outside when her owners moved. Her rescuer, Cynthia, noticed she was pregnant and took her in. Within a few days (this past Sunday) she gave birth to 7 beautiful babies. Although, Callie was nursing her babies, her rescuer noticed that Callie was bleeding and appeared to be in distress. Cynthia contacted Orion Animal Hospital and was told that Callie needed to be seen asap. We authorized Callie to be seen at Orion Animal Hospital and Dr. Zalac contacted me to discuss what would be required. Callie was emaciated and would need a blood transfusion in order to safely have surgery. That is scheduled for this morning and a healthy cat fostered by a staff member will be donating blood (hopefully the right type). Then the Dr. will perform exploratory surgery to determine the extent of the issue which is suspected to be a very infected uterus. Everyone has already fallen in love with this good Mama and I will get a report later and will report back on FB. Paws crossed. – diana

YOUR DONATIONS SAVE LIVES!

MEET SWEET WARREN

8/1/31 – Amber was contacted by her husband who said there was a stray kitten who almost got hit by a car running across the intersection of Warren and Conner in Detroit. The husband, at work, followed the cat who ran into a wheel well, and crawled under the car and was able to catch this frisky baby. We were contacted and asked for help. Warren needed to be fully vetted plus he appeared to have an upper respiratory infection. He was taken to a partner vet for the immediate needs and while there the rescuer pointed out a swelling in his ‘butt’ area. Warren was given his vaccines and tested. His neuter was to be scheduled at another hospital and the doctor said the “butt” was just swollen. Over the weekend the rescuer contacted us in an emergency — Warren’s rectum was totally prolapsing. The only option was emergency where he was taken on Sunday and had surgery that afternoon. Warren was released yesterday morning and the doctor told me that Warren came through the surgery well and was ready to go home. The last two photos are with Warren now safely at home with his new parents.

Without your donations and support, so many animals would never live to see another day or feel the love so many of us have for our pets. Thank you for giving us this opportunity. – diana

CHESTER

7/31/23 – Another friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart, Kristin, who we’ve helped with the medical for TNR as well as BatKid (who you may remember and who ended up having an amputation but is doing great) contacted us about Chester. Chester had been TNR’d but was not acclimating well to being outdoors. Kristin, thinks that he was at some time an indoor pet at one time. Chester showed up with what appears to now be an eye infection. He is being seen this afternoon and will now be a permanent inside cat. Kristin found a foster and they will try to find him a furever home. Paws crossed and God Bless those who rescue and are willing to do so much to save animals. – diana

BAILEY

7/31/23 – A friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart, Jennifer D., contacted us last week about Bailey. Here’s what Jennifer wrote:

“We just lost our 14 1/2 year old dachshund this past weekend so I was looking around online for another dog. We picked one out that we were going to pick up tomorrow; however, I came across this pup being given away for free. Her current owners were not able to keep her anymore due to their homeowners association policy. They were told they could have two dogs and then once they brought her home they found out that it meant ‘two animals’ although they had been told earlier ‘2 dogs’. They already had a cat and a dog. Bailey is almost 5 months old and has only had one set of shots at seven weeks. They were going to take her to the ‘Humane Society’ today at noon because the association was going to fine them a heavy fee today during a property check. I picked her up, but I’m afraid she’s a little bit too big for our property. She was purchased for $400 from some breeder as a mini Australian Shepherd. By the looks of her, I don’t think she’s a mini. She’s going to need a lot of room to run around and it’s something we don’t have. I am willing to foster her until an appropriate placement can be found. I think my son still has his heart set on the little dachshund we saw. He convinced me I had to save this dog before it went to the ‘Humane Society’ and possibly put down.”

We were happy to help and Bailey will be going to our partner vets to get her vaccines and heart worm test and when possible her spay. The last word from Jennifer today was that Bailey “may wind up being a foster failure”. – diana

RIP SWEET TIPPER

7/30/23 – Tipper was born three days before her mom had been scheduled for TNR — that was six years ago. She lived with her family in Dawn’s colony but over the years her mom and two siblings died of a genetic disease. Unfortunately, Tipper was finally another victim. It is unsure what the disease was but she became lethargic and stopped eating. She was seen at one of our partner vets where it was decided to let Tipper cross the Rainbow Bridge. She is now without pain and concern and living the good life with her family. Here she is at a better time in her life. – diana

MYKA RESCUED TREATED AND FOUND A HOME

7/28/23 – On July 20, Myka was found on the street with a broken leg and missing paw. His rescuer, Jamie, contacted All About Animals and they referred Jamie to us. I authorized Myka to be seen at Patterson Veterinary in Clinton Twp. and today Jamie sent this update: “Myka is home, surgery went great. They removed the leg and were able to neuter him. I have to bring him back in 2 weeks to get stitches removed. They said it looked like the leg was like that for a little while and he was in some pain. So it’s a good thing it was removed. I also was able to find a home for him. My mom is going to take him in after he is healed and better. She fell in love with him and I’m happy that he will have a safe and loving home. I want to thank you SO much on helping with this surgery. I would not have been able to afford it and I am so glad Myka is taken care of. Patterson vet is a great office to work with. I appreciate you all. – Jamie”

Without our supporters we could not continue to make a difference in so many lives. Thank you to the rescuers, our vet partners, and our donors. – diana

MEET FREEWAY

7/28/23 – Another friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart, was driving on I-69 and she almost hit him–standing in the middle of the highway. Another kind person stopped. He was able to pick up this baby and our friend, Sherri N., told him that she would take him in that she is a seasoned animal rescuer. Before leaving, they both looked for the mom but no other cats could be found. Freeway will be taken to the vet, spayed/neutered, tested, and vaccinated. Sherri will find him a furever home. – diana

ERMA RESCUED WILL NEED A HOME AND A NEW NAME AFTER TREATMENT

7/28/23 – This 6-weeks-old baby was seen standing on a rock near the Detroit River at Erma Henderson park. Our friend, Patricia, a veteran animal rescuer, had been contacted by the finder in that the baby’s paw was in horrible condition. Patricia contacted us and, thankfully, the amazing staff at Orion Animal Hospital was able to get him in this morning. Fortunately, the baby’s paw was not broken but it was severely infected and covered in maggots. The baby was treated and will have a follow up appointment in a couple weeks. 4 Paws 1 Heart will follow up with all of this baby’s medical needs and when appropriate he will be looking for his furever home. His name is now Erma but that will change now that everyone knows he’s a boy. Little Erma is in great hands and if anyone is interested in adopting him when he’s ready, please contact Patricia at: [email protected] – diana
