4/8/23 – Patches was rescued during a frigid snowstorm in January. The wonderful couple took Patches to their veterinary doctor where Patches was vaccinated and had blood work done. He was also treated for fleas, ear mites, and stomach parasites. As with most good Samaritans who find themselves in the position of saving an animal, the medical expense was an unexpected hit to their budget and Patches still needed to be neutered. That is when they contacted us. We were very happy to pay for Patches to be neutered and yesterday I received an update. Patches is no longer spraying (as was happening before the neuter). Although he has his own room, he does have run of the house. Although the family cat, Bella, has told him in so many terms that she is the ‘boss’, BUT she is willing to become friends. 4/6/23 – Malade was released from Advance Emergency Hospital yesterday along with her babies. The rescuer was able to find a rescue, Happy APaws Haven, where mom and babies will be taken. A Board member of the rescue is experience with newborns just in case Malade is unable to nurse her babies. Thanks to all who have donated to help with the family’s medical bills. – diana.

4/5/23 – He was found on the street I was born on in Detroit. He was very emaciated, needing medical attention. We authorized Baldwin to go to one of our partner veterinary clinics. Unfortunately, Baldwin was found positive for heart worm. The doctor immediately started his 30-day pre treatment and scheduled another follow up appointment to determine the level of heart worm. Once that is determined, Midland Pit Stop Rescue (who we’ve worked with in the past) will be taking in Baldwin to finish up with his heart worm treatment and eventually find him his furever home. We have also committed to his neuter and vaccines as appropriate. Please pray for this handsome boy and the many people who don’t turn their backs on an animal in need. – diana.

4/4/23 – Prayers and Donations needed for Malade and her kittens. Malade was trapped the night of April 3, she appeared to have an upper respiratory and was gasping for air. Nearby her newly born kittens were found huddled in a rubble with their umbilical cords still attached. Her rescuer, Diane, contacted us with what she felt was an emergency situation. We had Malade and her babies taken to our favorite emergency hospital, Advanced Animal Emergency. Shortly after she arrived, our good friend, Dr. Maria, contacted me to fill me in as to what she felt was needed. Malade was in very bad shape. She was very malnourished, dehydrated, had been in the rain, and besides all of that, giving birth. Of course, immediate treatment for the upper respiratory infection was started. Plans were made for x rays to make sure that there were no unborn babies, and x rays to check her lungs for pneumonia. She was then given fluids, a nebulizer to assist with her breathing. After reviewing the x rays, Dr. Maria, advised that fortunately there was no sign of pneumonia and also there was no sign of remaining babies. The kittens she did give birth to were made comfortable and the doctor assured me that none of the medications Malade was given would harm her babies when she nursed them. It was planned that Malade would be in the hospital between 24 and 36 hours.

As anyone who has had a sick pet knows, medical treatment is not inexpensive — especially emergency treatment. This is a case we did not expect in our budget. We have Muffins’ impending surgery which will be around $5,000. And now we have the unexpected case of Malade and her kittens in which we couldn’t say ‘no’. So, if anyone can help with her medical treatment, it would be much appreciated. Dixie was initially known as Jazzy. She was thrown away. One of two abandoned puppies found in a field, left in a milk crate to die. Sadly, her sibling sister died soon after they were found.

Gina, our co-founder, learned of this very sick puppy and had a friend transport it to the veterinary hospital where she worked. Test results confirmed the female puppy had parvo virus. Despite a poor prognosis from the doctors and being critically ill, Gina approved her life-saving treatment. Fighting several days through a difficult recovery, Dixie (Jazzy) responded to the loving encouragement she received from the entire hospital staff.

Dixie is now happily living her best life with a family that wants and loves her. She was adopted by one of her hospital “cheerleaders”.

Through the generous donations from supporters like you, 4 Paws 1 Heart is able to pay for life-saving medical care for abandoned animals like Dixie. We truly are thankful.

4/3/23 – Pumpkin’s Story as told by his rescuers at Run Around Sue’s Cat Rescue:

January 2023

Pumpkin was found in early January living underneath a dumpster in a Flint Alley. After many attempts his rescuer was finally able to secure him and keep him in her bathroom, she was a single mom, worked many hours and reported that pumpkin was having issues learning how to use the litter box, so on January 12 she reached out to us and Stacy ran right over and picked him up. It took a few days for him to calm down and realize we weren’t going to hurt him. We reached out to 4paws because he needed to be vetted. We were concerned that he may have an upper respiratory infection. He also needed to be fixed and get his shots.

January 20, 2023

Pumpkin was taken to all about animals in Flint. He was found to have an upper respiratory infection, he was put on antibiotics and we were told to bring him back for vaccinations, and to be fixed once he’s well.

February 14, 2023

Pumpkin has learned to use the potty. He is trusting and letting the humans pick him up and you can tell he’s feeling much better as he’s playing with toys. Today Pumpkin was neutered. We were told to bring him back at a later date for his shots. Pumpkin still had eye drainage and we have used antibiotic eyedrops to get his eyes clear.

3/24/23 – Pumpkin is ready for his shots we will be making his appointment soon, so our Pumpkin can be adopted. Pumpkin has learned to socialize. He loves his humans and he is litter box trained.
