CEDAR GETTING WELL, NOW NEEDS A HOME

1/3/22 – Cedar is an exotic short hair who was rescued in mid-December from a breeder at 14 weeks old. He was hospitalized with Pyothorax which occurs when pus or inflammatory fluids collect in the space around the lungs causing fever, anorexia, lethargy, and difficulty breathing. It is the result of infection around the lungs caused by wounds either internally or externally, migrating foreign bodies, or lung infection.

We were contacted by Kittens in the Mittens Rescue, who we’ve assisted before, because Cedar had been admitted to an emergency hospital. At the time, we could only help with a fraction of what the total bill was estimated at but glad we could help with something. I checked on Cedar yesterday and was told that he is doing well after spending a week in the hospital. He will be having a follow up exam next week. Anyone interested in this little cutie should contact Kittens in the Mittens Rescue; they do great work in our communities. – Diana

LIONS FUNDRAISER CANCELLED

1/2/23 – I’m sorry to announce that the traditional Lions vs Packers Fundraiser is CANCELLED due to a change in game time. Just a little while ago, the NFL announced that the game was rescheduled for 8:20 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023. We hate to do this but we felt that most people would not be able to attend because of the late starting time, especially on a Sunday when most people have to work the following day.

If the Lions make it to the playoffs, we will try to schedule a fundraiser for that. PAWS CROSSED and STAY TUNED. PLEASE SHARE this post and help us get the word out. – diana

A FEW 2022 FELINE STORIES THAT WERN’T POSTED

1/2/23 – Here are a few of the many felines we were able to help with medical in 2022. Unfortunately, there was an overwhelming number of stray animals needing our help this past year. But, fortunately, because of our supporters we were able to meet their needs whether they required simple vetting (spay/neuter/vaccines/testing/deworming) or something more complicated requiring surgery or prolonged treatment. These are just a few whose stories weren’t posted: Donovan, Diesel, Tyler, Oscar, Heidi, Denise, Rocket, Lola, Leah, Rocky, and Sally.

Throughout the month I will continue to at least show you more of those innocents who we were able to help and who either found their way into permanent homes or who were TNR’d and cared for by a community caretaker.

Thank YOU, once again, for giving all of us the opportunity and the ability to make a difference in the lives of so many orphans. – diana.

TONYA STOKER, FRIEND OF 4PAWS1HEART, PASSES AWAY

1/1/23 – Many hearts are broken over the very sad news that a beautiful friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart as well as the many cats she saved in her lifetime, Tonya Stoker, passed away last night. I reported on Tonya’s devastating survival struggle since August. Her cousin, Erika Robinson, and many friends came together to find homes for her cats when it became likely that she would not be able to care for her pets again. The last cat, Peanut, just couldn’t catch a break and spent days alone while Erika made sure he was taken care of in the lonely apartment. Then, with just a few days before the lease ran out, our Board member, Cynthia S. Wojtowycz stepped up and took Peanut into her home and started a private fb group so that Tonya could keep up with Peanut’s journey. This earth has lost a beautiful fighter but heaven has gained a pure soul. Rest in peace, Tonya, finally without pain. Here is a statement from Erika:

“I can’t find all the right words at this time. I wish we could wake up from this bad dream. My WHOLE family and some of Tonya’s friends are at a loss as we move into 2023.

We’re doing it without our Tonya.

Tonya L. Stoker passed away at 7:04pm on December 31st, 2022. She will be missed by many, but she’s no longer in pain and fighting to overcome everything that started august 25th, 2022.

She is being cremated and will go home to Tina in Ohio. We will not being doing anything at this time. Please be patient and kind as we’re trying to navigate all of this. Give Tina the time & respect to process all of this also, please. We’re Doing our best.

THANK YOU to everyone that has prayed for Tonya and helped us during this time through donations and everything. We appreciate you all more than you know. – Erika”

PRE NEW YEARS EVE UPDATES

12/30/22 – From our dear friend, Emily K.

Rum Tum Tiger: He was the only surviver of 4 kittens born to a female rescued by our Fundraiser Team member, Shawn. The Village came together and tried so very hard to save the 3 but it was not to be. Rum Tum is healthy and Emily actually thought she had an adopter, but the person decided on another. Emily now has Rum Tum up for adoption and if anyone is interested, just email me and I will put you in touch. [email protected]

Doorbuster: Doorbuster was one of 9 puppies born around Thanksgiving. Two of the puppies were failing and, again, Emily stepped up. Sadly, one puppy (BOGO) didn’t survive but with Emily’s expertise and dedication (and love), Doorbuster is striving. On December 14 he was moved out of the incubator and into a playpen (although he was not happy about the move). On December 28 he was taken off of the bottle. He is growing fast and has been scheduled for his vaccines. Doorbuster will have his joints examined when he is vaccinated because he walks a bit bow-legged. Currently, Emily is working to strengthen his legs and works closely with Dr. Zalac as needed.

The Board and the 4 Paws 1 Heart Village wishes all of our amazing supporters, veterinary staffs, rescuers, fosters, and first responders, a 2023 filled with much love, laughter, and good health (not to mention doggie and kitty kisses). – diana

TANK, DOZER & TONKA ABANDONED TOGETHER, WOULD LIKE TO STAY TOGETHER

12/29/22 – Approximately 3 weeks ago Tank, Dozer, and Tonka were found in a box left next to a building where karate is taught. Unfortunately, there was a fourth puppy who the finder was unable to save. They are now about 8 weeks old and we will be taking caring of their exams, vaccines, and treatment for worms and fleas. The three are very bonded and get very upset when they are separated. – diana.

SHARING A MEMORY OF 5 YEARS AGO

12/28/22 – This was in 2017; another example of our Village working together — no matter what age. – diana

12/28/17 – So, as scheduled, Jacob Savoie and Family met Tony and I at the Macomb County Animal Control Shelter. Unfortunately, Chief Randazzo, who was to meet us and conduct the tour, was called out on an emergency rescue. Thankfully, Ryan stepped up to do the tour. As you can see, we presented Jacob, who raised $1,705 and hundreds of pounds of food which was donated to the Shelter and to 4 Paws 1 Heart for distribution to our rescue partners, with a certificate recognizing him as the 4 Paws 1 Heart “Rescuer of the Year”. Everyone toured the shelter, the young ladies, Brook, Emma, and Aly (Jacob is allergic) spent time playing with some kitties and then — Chief Randazzo returned before we left. There he was with the duck rescued from the freezing waters in Harrison Twp. This very traumatized duck had a fishing line around his legs and he was trapped in the ice. Between the County and Chesterfield Twp, this sweet animal was saved.

A huge thank you to Jacob and his wonderful family who collected so many cans/bottles, blankets, food, and toys. It’s not easy to turn in so many cans/bottles let alone collect them. I also want to thank the City and Township of Armada and the residents who came together to make a difference in the lives of so many animals. This was truly an effort of a family and their community and it could not have been a better Christmas Story (especially with the rescue duck). What we all learned in touring the shelter was to make sure you microchip your pets, a tag or license is not enough. Also, when you adopt an animal, understand that it is a commitment for life. So many of these animals were surrendered or found in horrible conditions. Municipal shelters are not equipped or funded to take on all of the animals ills of the world. They can’t clean up after us and we must all work together to be the caretakers for those sweet souls who God put on this earth. ~ diana
