The video to go with the story is now available. I cry every time I look in her eyes but we have to be strong knowing that she is now with 4 Paws 1 Heart and in the best hands possible. Please remember that the veterinary hospital has nothing to do with donations or adoptions. All inquiries should be made to me at diana.4paws1heart@gmail.com. 4 Paws 1 Heart is paying for all medical care so any donations should be made directly to us using the link on this page or the link on our website. Sonic Finds His Forever Home
11/4/14 Good News!! Our sweetie, Sonic, has left the hospital and is now in her forever home. She will still need to have surgery on her mouth but we are so very happy that she has found the perfect home where she will be the only pet and very much loved by a caring, loving, young woman and her mom. The photos are of Sonic when she first came in after being attacked by a dog and now in her new home. ~ diana
Katniss Everdeen with Her New Friend
She continues to show us her strength for survival.. Early yesterday morning (11/3), Dr. Maria Rivera and the Technician Dawn performed surgery at the Animal Urgent And Critical Care Center. A large amount of fabric was removed and Katiness is stable. Here she is tonight with her big soft stuffed animal that was donated buy her foster mom whom we have lined up..
Katniss Everdeen has many needs that we are committed to assisting her with. This neglect did not happen overnight, nor will it go away overnight.
If you are interested in providing a permanent home please be patient, and send your information in a private message on our Facebook page. Please note “No phone calls should not be made to the Veterinary Hospital”. We plan on getting her into her foster home in a few days. All updates will be posted on our Facebook page and when the time is right, those who are interested will be contacted or notified. We just do not want to take the veterinary staff away from assisting other animals in need.
Thank you all for your prayers and support and if you would like to donate towards her medical care please see our website 4paws1heart.org donations

Katniss Everdeen – Post Surgery
11/3/14 If you can, watch the 5:00 WDIV (Detroit) news tonight. Gina and Katniss will be on. In fact they just showed the promo on the 4:00 news. You can also watch it online in case you miss it.
I was with Katniss today and my heart broke. I kept her covered up because it was cool in the room and she is literally skin and bones. She is so emaciated, the newscaster was even shocked when he touched her. Her tail just hangs and her spine is curved from being in a cage not big enough for a kitten and only God (and the monster who did this) know for how long. Of all of the dogs Gina has brought into my life, they have always wagged their tails when they were in our care but not Katniss. I didn’t want to leave her; her big eyes just looked up at me while she rested her head on my leg.
As I earlier reported she had emergency surgery early this morning; Gina feared there was a blockage. Sure enough there was about a pound of fabric in her 12 lb. body. She should be at least 25 to 30 pounds for her age and breed. We feel pretty confident that we can help with her physically but our true concern is her spirit. When she has accidents (which hasn’t been often) in her kennel, she cowers in a corner like she’s been beaten before. We are praying that we can get her into her foster home in a few days and get her out of the hospital. As with any hospital, sick animals come in and we don’t want her to be exposed any longer than needed. Once she is with the foster she will be very loved and cared for. She will need weeks of recovery and stability and physical therapy and most important LOVE. Fortunately, 4 Paws 1 Heart has access to some of the best doctors around for every need possible and we are committed to making sure this sweetheart knows the love of a human. ~ diana
Katniss has Emergency Surgery
11/3/14 Quick Update on Katniss Everdeen – She had emergency surgery overnight. Several pieces of blanket material was found. Obviously she had been eating the material while she was being starved in the small carrier she was found in. Gina will provide a better update a little later. Please continue to pray for this sweet baby. ~ diana

Thank You to our Supporters and Hercules
11/1/14 Just want to thank all of our friends who came out last night to our Haunted Pound. I had a great time as I hope everyone else did. A huge thank you to Hercules and his parents, Chris and Dr. Tari Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Therapy for Pets for being there for the photo shoot. Also, thank you to Paul, Colleen, and Bob of Colleen’s Irish Pub (and Chef Andy) for the wonderful food. And, last but not least, Fonda and Annette for the great music and, our Board member Melissa, for putting it all together.
Katniss Everdeen
11/1/14 This beautiful little girl has more life in her eyes today. She has been passing some fabric in her stool which we assume she ingested because she was starving. It looks like the transfusion has helped her because her blood levels are slowly getting back to normal. Yesterday we were concerned about possibly having to do surgery, but it looks like things are moving like they should…gina
Paris – Another Sweetie Saved and in Her New Home
Katniss Everdeen
10/31/14 Update on Katniss who we are now calling “Everdeen”. Last night the Veterinarian decided to give her a plasma transfusion because she was losing her proteins despite therapy. I just got word from the doctor that a large amount of very stinky dark stool mixed with Fabric was passed throughout the night. X rays were done and barium was given orally to light up the intestines and stomach on xray. They’re going to re-check her blood work and x-rays this evening to make sure everything is moving properly inside her abdomen, because it is suspected that she may have ingested a foreign body:( Let’s just hope that she does not need surgery. Meanwhile, she is still hospitalized on IV fluids and antibiotics. ♡
