Fawn’s Second Chance
7/31/26: Meet Fawn.
We received an emergency message about a dog who had been found lying along the side of the road. She was covered in sores, unable to stand, and appeared to be in critical condition.
We were able to get her to one of our partner veterinary hospitals, where she was diagnosed with Addison’s disease and was in an Addisonian crisis.
She needed emergency treatment immediately, but the hospital was closing for the night. The options were to provide the care they could until morning and have her return for hospitalization, or humanely euthanize her because, without treatment, she would likely not survive.
We chose to give her a chance.
The veterinary team did everything they could that evening, and Fawn returned the following morning for additional treatment and hospitalization on IV fluids. By then, she was already a completely different dog.
The hospital staff thanked us for giving her a chance. They couldn’t stop talking about how sweet and loving she was, and they were amazed by the dramatic improvement they had seen in such a short time. This will likely require lifelong management meaning $200 ish a month for treatment.
Today, we also want to thank her rescuer and the veterinary staff for refusing to give up on her. Because of their compassion, and because of the generosity of our supporters, Fawn was given the opportunity to fight.
Her name is Fawn, and her story is just beginning.
Addison’s disease in dogs, also known as hypoadrenocorticism, is a hormonal disorder where the adrenal glands fail to produce enough cortisol and aldosterone. These vital hormones control stress responses, blood pressure, and body salt and water balance.
