4/5/23 – He was found on the street I was born on in Detroit. He was very emaciated, needing medical attention. We authorized Baldwin to go to one of our partner veterinary clinics. Unfortunately, Baldwin was found positive for heart worm. The doctor immediately started his 30-day pre treatment and scheduled another follow up appointment to determine the level of heart worm. Once that is determined, Midland Pit Stop Rescue (who we’ve worked with in the past) will be taking in Baldwin to finish up with his heart worm treatment and eventually find him his furever home. We have also committed to his neuter and vaccines as appropriate. Please pray for this handsome boy and the many people who don’t turn their backs on an animal in need. – diana.

4/4/23 – Prayers and Donations needed for Malade and her kittens. Malade was trapped the night of April 3, she appeared to have an upper respiratory and was gasping for air. Nearby her newly born kittens were found huddled in a rubble with their umbilical cords still attached. Her rescuer, Diane, contacted us with what she felt was an emergency situation. We had Malade and her babies taken to our favorite emergency hospital, Advanced Animal Emergency. Shortly after she arrived, our good friend, Dr. Maria, contacted me to fill me in as to what she felt was needed. Malade was in very bad shape. She was very malnourished, dehydrated, had been in the rain, and besides all of that, giving birth. Of course, immediate treatment for the upper respiratory infection was started. Plans were made for x rays to make sure that there were no unborn babies, and x rays to check her lungs for pneumonia. She was then given fluids, a nebulizer to assist with her breathing. After reviewing the x rays, Dr. Maria, advised that fortunately there was no sign of pneumonia and also there was no sign of remaining babies. The kittens she did give birth to were made comfortable and the doctor assured me that none of the medications Malade was given would harm her babies when she nursed them. It was planned that Malade would be in the hospital between 24 and 36 hours.
As anyone who has had a sick pet knows, medical treatment is not inexpensive — especially emergency treatment. This is a case we did not expect in our budget. We have Muffins’ impending surgery which will be around $5,000. And now we have the unexpected case of Malade and her kittens in which we couldn’t say ‘no’. So, if anyone can help with her medical treatment, it would be much appreciated. Dixie was initially known as Jazzy. She was thrown away. One of two abandoned puppies found in a field, left in a milk crate to die. Sadly, her sibling sister died soon after they were found.
Gina, our co-founder, learned of this very sick puppy and had a friend transport it to the veterinary hospital where she worked. Test results confirmed the female puppy had parvo virus. Despite a poor prognosis from the doctors and being critically ill, Gina approved her life-saving treatment. Fighting several days through a difficult recovery, Dixie (Jazzy) responded to the loving encouragement she received from the entire hospital staff.
Dixie is now happily living her best life with a family that wants and loves her. She was adopted by one of her hospital “cheerleaders”.

4/3/23 – Pumpkin’s Story as told by his rescuers at Run Around Sue’s Cat Rescue:
January 2023
Pumpkin was found in early January living underneath a dumpster in a Flint Alley. After many attempts his rescuer was finally able to secure him and keep him in her bathroom, she was a single mom, worked many hours and reported that pumpkin was having issues learning how to use the litter box, so on January 12 she reached out to us and Stacy ran right over and picked him up. It took a few days for him to calm down and realize we weren’t going to hurt him. We reached out to 4paws because he needed to be vetted. We were concerned that he may have an upper respiratory infection. He also needed to be fixed and get his shots.

Pumpkin was taken to all about animals in Flint. He was found to have an upper respiratory infection, he was put on antibiotics and we were told to bring him back for vaccinations, and to be fixed once he’s well.
February 14, 2023
Pumpkin has learned to use the potty. He is trusting and letting the humans pick him up and you can tell he’s feeling much better as he’s playing with toys. Today Pumpkin was neutered. We were told to bring him back at a later date for his shots. Pumpkin still had eye drainage and we have used antibiotic eyedrops to get his eyes clear.
3/24/23 – Pumpkin is ready for his shots we will be making his appointment soon, so our Pumpkin can be adopted. Pumpkin has learned to socialize. He loves his humans and he is litter box trained.

This week makes 9 months since this little girl came into my life after being rescued from outside where she was literally dying.
Over the course of these past several months I’ve been handling her condition and literally doing everything humanely possible to be her advocate and manage her symptoms. I have felt a great deal of helplessness and frustration while trying to get the help she needs.
We have been through 3 different hospitals, and because her issue is so rare I had to weigh out all options before deciding on another attempt at surgery.
As a last resort, I scheduled an appointment with Dr Stanley at Animal Surgical Center in Flint. She is an incredible soft tissue surgeon specialist whom I met years ago after she performed an amazing reconstructive scar tissue surgery on another pet I once fostered. She also specializes in upper airway obstruction cases.
Our appointment was yesterday and for those who are unfamiliar with this case, Muffins’ has a stricture or possibly a band of scar tissue covering the area in her nasophyrengeal space where there should be a hole. The cause is likely from chronic inflammation or congenital.
This problem causes her to constantly sneeze out large green snot with nonstop drainage. There is pressure in her ear drums from fluid, her equilibrium is off, she gets bacterial infections, she is wheezing at times and this because her sinus area cannot drain normally.
Surgery is scheduled for May 23rd. Dr Stanley won’t know for certain until she gets inside the soft palet but she suspects she will need to create an opening and place a temporary silicone stent.
Muffins ‘ would stay overnight and we would have to bring her back to flint once a week for 6 weeks where they would do a nasal flush and at last visit remove the stent. Estimate is $6,000 to $7,000 all together.
I trust that Dr Stanley is my only and best option to give Muffins’ a quality of life that she deserves. I’m also scared because this is a major procedure and a 2 month journey where complications can occur and we live over an hour away from the hospital. They were understanding and made me feel totally comfortable even tho I lost it emotionally.
I cannot thank my amazing husband, David Jenio enough for his continued support and understanding during this journey.

3/31/23 – Crixus came to our attention in the summer of 2020 when he had a hurt paw. He received x rays and all of the usual medications which cost much more than it should have but…..He continued to be a community cat in Hamtramck, MI although the caretaker would try to keep him in at night to lessen potential fights. At that time Crixus was already at least 9 years old. Then, last summer Crixus was having issues with swallowing; again, we were contacted and Crixus was found to have an infection. We were happy to help again. In February of this year, we were again contacted about this very resilient boy. When his caretaker went to feed him, he was found to be throwing up blood. Again, Crixus was trapped and we were contacted. Crixus saw our great friends at Five Mile Animal Hospital where the doctor diagnosed Stomatitis and recommended a full dental extraction. On March 24 Crixus had his surgery and now will never see the outside again unless it’s through his caretaker’s window. His caretaker said that without 4 Paws 1 Heart, Crixus would have never made it to 13 years old. — We say, without the love of our supporters, thousands of animals would have never lived another day. – diana
