CALI, COLE, AND COOKIE – Rescued from Beneath a Mobile Home; All With Upper Respiratory Infections

ROMEO – His Owners No Longer Wanted Him and His Eye Needed to be Removed

8/5/21 – Prayer Warriors Needed – This is Romeo. This little guy has been going through so much and he is now on his way to one of the best veterinary hospitals in our area – Orion Animal Hospital, Lake Orion, MI. Last Wednesday Romeo’s founder contacted me and said Romeo was in desperate need of our help. A couple of days before a cat showed up at her home; he had on a collar and a phone number. The finder called the number and the person who answered was told that they found a kitty with their number on the collar. The owner said that they got “rid of the cat” and then hung up on the finder. The kitty took off that night and 2 days later came back to the young couple’s home with the eye damage. The couple took Romeo in and brought him to an emergency hospital where they did minimum care and advised that the eye needed immediate removal but because the couple didn’t have much money nothing much was done, not even pain meds to hold him over until the couple could get help. When I saw the photo of Romeo, I immediately begged and pleaded with one of our vet partners and arrangements were made to get him in for pre-surgery yesterday and surgery today. But then yesterday, the couple, with only one car, was in a car accident and their car was totaled. Consequently, yesterday’s pre-visit was not made and today, because of a mix-up and unbeknownst to all of us, the surgery was cancelled. This, after our good friend Debra B. went from St. Clair Shores to Lincoln Park and back to Macomb County to bring Romeo for his surgery. The hospital that was to do the surgery could not schedule again until next week and there was no way this poor baby could wait. He had suffered enough and now he was still in the car after over one hour, crying, and rubbing his damaged eye. I was determined to get him into a hospital today. My next option was to beg for help from the best at Orion Animal Hospital. And I can’t thank them enough because although the doctor is not in today, she asked us to take Romeo to her hospital today where he will spend the night and she, Dr. Zalac, will fit him in tomorrow for surgery. My only other option would have been to have Debra and Romeo sit in a car for possibly hours in hopes we could get into the emergency hospital. So, please pray for Romeo that he can at least be somewhat comfortable through the night and that his surgery will be successful tomorrow. The rescuer and I are at least comforted knowing he is in a hospital setting with a wonderful, caring staff. I’ll be sure to update later. It certainly takes a village and we are blessed to have people like Debra and a few others in our circle always willing to drop everything to help. – diana4paws1heart.org/donations/2,993People reached677Engagements

WILLOW, AGGIE, THEO and SERENA – Rescued at 7 Weeks Old

8/4/21 – These babies, Willow, Aggie (2 photos), Theo, and Serena (2 photos) were all found at about 7 weeks old. They needed the obvious vetting (wellness checks, vaccines, tests, neuter/spay) but they were also having issues with irritated anuses and moving their bowels. They were all able to get into one of our partner vets who prescribed medication and all are doing well. They were also tested, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered when they were feeling better. 4 less kittens on the streets to add to the over population of felines. Thank YOU, Jennifer, for rescuing them and contacting us.

BELLA – Working Hard in Physical Therapy

Bella is the adorable little Tortie rescued by our friend Rebecca Leduc. Bella is rear end paralyzed and is seeing Dr. Kern at Pawsitive Steps thanks to 4 Paws 1 Heart. Chance’s mom got to visit Bella yesterday and shared some tips & tricks for massage and pt exercise with Bella’s foster mom. Bella is growing like a weed and her body condition is so much better than when Rebecca first rescued her. Bella is a determined little scamp who will quickly steal your heart! And of course she has that “tortitude” that makes her want to run the show 😹 Chance’s Mom had a great time visiting Bella yesterday and by the time she left, Bella was ready for a nap! Physical therapy is a lot of hard work for humans and animals and specialty treatment of course is not cheap. But we are thankful that we have so many supporters who help us change the lives of so many orphans.

MONTY – Rescued While the Family Was at a School Sporting Event in Montana

8/3/21 – Late last week, I received a call from an independent rescuer we’ve helped on several occasions. She had been traveling across the Country for her daughter’s sport event. That is how she met Montana (aka Monty). The following was written and posted by Monty’s rescuer, Shayla Deanne. Monty was taken to one of our friends and the owner of Comfort’s Place (Deborah Friedman) who has an amazing heart and fit Monty into a very full schedule at her veterinary clinic. At this time, the Shayla, Deborah, and a veterinarian at Comfort’s Place are making plans to return to Montana to see what they can do to help these poor animals. – diana4paws1heart.org/donations/Your donations Save Lives and Gives those without hope a second chance!!”Location: Redford, MichiganIt’s official…this boy is up for adoption! Meet Montana everyone (Monty for short). For those who don’t already know, Monty came home with us last weekend from Glacier National Park in Montana (hence, his name). He was a stray and wandering from campsite to campsite between two popular campgrounds out there. After speaking with the long-time owner of our campground, we were told that Montana was likely dumped there and that the “game warden had already been called about him” and that he would be “on his way to doggie heaven soon enough”. He went on to explain that there are no animal shelters around and that he likely came from the Native American Reservation up the road. A “Browning Dump Dog” is what he called him. Apparently many strays wander or are dumped into the campgrounds and they are shot, according to the owner. This is their way of controlling the population of stray dogs, and if they chase wildlife up there, they are killed by the game warden in the same manner. I know…horrible. 😪💔 We couldn’t imagine his fate that way, so after a day or so of trying to get him, we finally did. He was scanned for a chip and there was nothing. No collar either…nothing to tell us where Monty may have come from. After asking all around town about where he may have come from, we were met with more dead ends. At that point, we felt okay with bringing him home the day we left the state last week. I did leave my information with several local establishments there, including the campgrounds, in case an owner came looking for him. We’ve heard nothing from anyone. It has been a week and he is simply a fantastic dog! He was a little skittish of people, especially men, reaching out for him (cowered as if he was hit), but he has come to trust us more and more. He is about 2 years old, is heart worm negative, just got all his vaccinations, and is neutered already. He is GREAT with other dogs, kids, doesn’t care about cats, and actually cowered when I tried to see if he had prey drive toward my chinchilla. 😅 He walks very well on a leash and knows some basic commands. His biggest issue is being locked up. He is a little escape artist if he is being confined. He hops fences and will jump and climb on things like a little gazelle. Again, this is only if he is confined which is why he will do best in a home with people who are home or with him most of the time. I’m sure with time, his anxiety could be calmed and he could be crate trained for short increments of time. He is also young and LOVES other dogs and activity. Someone who has an active lifestyle is preferred for this boy. The vet thinks Monty is full grown, but could stand to gain a few pounds (he is only 35 pounds right now.) If you would like to meet Monty or think he may be a good fit for someone you know, please share this post. There is an application process, a home check, and his adoption fee will be $150.00 which will go back to 4 Paws and 1 Heart (Diana Rascano ) which is the wonderful rescue that paid for his vetting. Please contact me via a P.M. Thank you! – Shayla Deanne”

BABE – One of 5 Kittens Trapped But Needed Immediate Eye Removal Surgery

8/2/21 – About a week ago a kind woman live-trapped 5 kittens and the mom from a bush. One kitten quickly found a home. The mom is being helped by an independent rescuer to be spayed but one of the kittens was in need of medical help. One of her eyes was 3 times the size of the other. It needed to be removed but at 1.5 lbs., the initial doctor was unable to do the surgery. Babe was then scheduled for surgery at a more specialized hospital and she had her surgery last Wednesday, July 28. On Thursday I received an update telling me that Babe is recovering nicely and is now “making biscuits” — those of us familiar with kittens know what this means (kneading). Although graphic, this is what too many animals are dealing with today on the streets. Thankfully there are people like Holli and her family, ready and willing to take charge and seek help when needed. Here’s Babe and her story in her own words. – diana4paws1heart.org/donations/

PEACHES – Rescued From a Neglectful Home

8/2/21 – Peaches was rescued from a neglectful home. She was not being fed and she kept going to the neighbor’s house through a vent in the home. She cries when you pick her up. She was starving and being fed only by the neighbor when she escaped. She would eat when she got to the caretakers then she stopped. Her rescuer has gotten her to eat baby food. She uses her litter box, but the rescuer is obviously concerned that there might be other issues. Hopefully, she is only dehydrated from the lack of food and water. She is saying one of our favorite doctors today; paws crossed she gets a clean bill of health. We will also cover her FIV/Felv test, spay, and vaccines when we know she is healthy. Anyone interested in this beauty should contact Cathy at: [email protected]4paws1heart.org/donations/

MIRACLE and STAMPER – The Rescue Was a Miracle – Update

8/1/21 – Happy Update – Miracle, who was saved from drowning in a drainage pipe, and her brother, Stamper, have been adopted to a woman and her son. They both live in separate homes but often get the siblings together so they don’t forget about each other. Miracle and Stamper’s mom appears to have an eye infection or an upper respiratory infection and was taken to the vet this past weekend; she is doing well, though, after her spay surgery. Also, Brad, our hero, told me that there is another mama with possibly a litter of 4 who have been discovered behind the shop. He thinks that this mama is the sister of Miracle and Stamper’s mom. The night foreman noticed that a few of the kittens’ eyes are “looking bad”. This family has been more illusive but everyone is focused on catching everyone so that we can cover their medical treatment. The shop employees are very dedicated to helping these orphans. – diana4paws1heart.org/donations/

ANGEL AND MIA – Update

7/29/21 – Angel and Mia were both rescued in March during the still bitter Michigan weather. Angel was pregnant and had an upper respiratory and Mia also was sick. We were happy to help then and advised that when everyone was ready and the babies were born and weaned we would help again. Well, Angel had 4 kittens and both Angel and Mia have recovered from their infections. In a few weeks it will be time for everyone to get their tests, vaccines, and spays/neuters so they can be adopted. If you are interested in adopting any of these beauties, contact Joann at: [email protected] – diana4paws1heart.org/donations/
