A couple weeks ago I was able to visit sweet Katniss. She is still beautiful as ever, but I’m asking for prayers because she hasn’t been feeling so well. Her mom loves her so much and she is doing everything possible never skipping a beat giving pure unconditional love. It never hurts to have some extra support, so please keep Katniss in your thoughts during this time for strength and healing. Her transition from rescue is seen in pics at link posted below and what she has overcome since being rescued 9 years ago is beyond incredible. 4 Paws 1 Heart gave her a 2nd chance and Carrie Krausmann taught love and confidence before being adopted into her forever home.

I got to see Hercules at the People, Pets, and Vets yesterday and he definitely remembers me . He gave me so many slobbery kisses. If you don’t know the story about Hercules you should totally watch the video. It is an amazing story that will melt your heart. I fostered him from the time he was picked up from Animal Control until he went to his new forever home. Love you Hercules! – Gina

3/24/23 – Rocky was found outside the rescue’s shelter by a truck driver who was trying to feed him. The Rescue took him in and noticed how thin he was and he had a lot of blood around his mouth with severely infected ears. The Rescue took him to their vet and got him all patched up and got his infected ears cleaned. Rocky received meds for the infection and was vaccinated. He was placed on the lost and found sites and someone finally said ‘yes’ he’s their dog. The Rescue told the alleged owner that he had to reimburse the Rescue for the medical expenses and that he had to provide proof of ownership. The person never showed up. Rocky is 11 years old and the rescue said that he is as ‘sweet as pie’; his ears are doing much better. But, he needed more medication for the infections, vaccines, and neuter and the Rescue asked if we could cover that. We did. And, now Rocky is ready to find his loving and permanent home. Rocky is truly in a better place. Although the alleged owners were picking up free food, Rocky ran away, very emaciated (as you can see), and very neglected with ear infections plus. – diana
3/23/23 – The Story of Claus as told by his rescuers from Run Around Sue Rescue:
–November, 2022 Claus and his litter mates came to us about 6 weeks old from Clarkston Michigan. They were surrendered after being found in a garage.
-January 12, 2023 We can’t thank 4 Paws 1 Heart enough for helping us help little Claus. We had been very worried about this little guy since being fixed back in December. We had him rechecked in December at All about Animals and they said he was healing fine, but after a couple weeks he was still very slow, lethargic and sleeps all the time. I reached out to 4 paws and was given approval to take him to Orion Animal Hospital for a second opinion. Claus was seen at Orion Animal Hospital for more in-depth testing. They did an ultrasound, X-rays and bloodwork and he will be treated for an Upper Respiratory infection and we will have a check up in 7 days.
-January 19th 2023. Check up day for Claus. Claus is doing better but still has a URI, so the Vet wants to add another antibiotic and eye drops. But let me tell you he is doing so much better; we have seen some improvements. He has a little life back in his eyes and even looks to you if you call his name. We will bring him back for a check up in a couple weeks.
-February 10th 2023 Check up day for Claus. Claus is doing so much better. His URI is 90% gone, he started his shots and we will bring him back in a few weeks to get his remaining shots and hopefully get him cleared.
-March 16th 2023. Check up day for Claus. Claus slipped backwards. He started getting really rattly, sounding like a broken purr. His eyes are watery and so we decided that it was best if i fostered him away from all the other rescues and the Vet has put him back on an antibiotic and eye ointment. He’s seems to be bouncing back quickly and is playing and getting his energy back and its only been 1 week. He does still have that broken purr from time to time which was actually mentioned at his appointment on February 10th so I will ask about that at his follow up. The vet did say that his immune system was probably low from being away from his momma so early, so hopefully now that he has his shots and he’s away from all the other cats he will be on his way to being healthy.
-3/23/23 – Claus’s brother and sister (Izzy and Cane) were adopted on December 23rd. Their momma has been following Claus’s story and has reached out often to see how he is doing. Recently she told us she would love to reunite Claus with his siblings as soon as he is well! So there is a happy ending waiting for our little boy thanks to 4 paws 1 heart for helping him get the care he needed. – Tina of Run Around Sue Rescue”

I wanted to share Courtney’s post because it so sadly shows what a dog must go through when he contracts heart worm. Courtney is a member of the Orion Animal Hospital staff. She contacted us initially to see if we could help. Courtney has been fostering Koa and will continue to do so while he goes through his treatment. Koa is much loved in Courtney’s home and at the hospital. Unfortunately, these poor neglected and abused animals have no idea why they are going through the pain humans inflict on them but we do find much comfort in knowing that 4 Paws 1 Heart can be part of the solution to give them that second chance at a loving life. 3/22/23 – He showed up as a stray cat with his eye ‘oozing’ and emaciated. The homeowner contacted her local vet which happened to be Orion Animal Hospital and they told her to contact me — which she did. We authorized Twitch to be treated there where he received medication for an upper respiratory infection. He was also given an appetite stimulant. He is being kept cozy and warm in a very large dog crate until he goes for his follow up appointment next week which will include vaccines and neuter. His rescuer says that his eye is looking great and he is very comfortable. – diana

3/21/23 – Dear Friends, please be sure to ask first before purchasing products that claim to have the 4 paws 1 heart logo. They just want your money—nothing goes to the animals! We will continue to try and catch the fakers by blocking, reporting, and deleting but sometimes we either miss it or like now fb freezes me out from doing it. I will continue trying. – diana

3/21/23 – Raven’s Story as told by the Rescue:
Grand Blanc Rescue 3/7/2023
Name Raven, Age 8 months Male
Raven’s had a rough life so far. He showed up at a home in Grand Blanc during this past winter. The family was putting food out for him for about a month. He wandered into their dog’s area and was attacked. A family friend was called to come and help trap him, because they saw that he was injured. Once they trapped Raven, the friend took him home to Flint where she posted for help and we responded. We went to three different vets before we finally were directed to Heritage veterinary Hospital in Flint and were able to get his injuries assessed, had blood work run and X-rays performed. He has a broken Femur above his left knee and in their opinion, because of where it is broken, they cannot cast his leg. (in the photo ,the two yellow circles should be connected.)The doctor recommended seeing a orthopedic surgeon.
Because of the cost of orthopedic surgery (if at all possible) the rescue then contacted 4 paws 1 heart. I asked the Rescue if they were ok with getting a second opinion from a doctor at Orion Animal Hospital. The Rescue was happy to try.
An appointment was made with Orion Animal Hospital to determine if orthopedic surgery should be pursued or if an amputation would be better from a quality of life standpoint. And one of our trusted doctors advised that it would be best for Raven to have amputation surgery which was scheduled for the following Monday. Tina, of the Grand Blanc Rescue, reported the following:
“Our sweet boy, Raven, was just dropped off for his surgery today, Monday, 3/20/2023. Let me tell you a bit about Raven He is very cautious and wants to hide away from anyone that tries to pick him up. But I believe he’s just trying to protect his injury, because if you pet him he loves the attention and will purr very loud. He is a Beautiful boy with big yellow eyes. Raven will be coming home with me to heal. I’m looking forward to his recovery so that I can hold him and build his confidence back. Once he’s well enough, the plan is that he will rehabilitate with a vet tech foster. 4 Paws 1 Heart has taken Raven under their medical wing and paid for his surgery; they have truly been a godsend. Please say a little prayer for this little guy today. I will update this post once he’s home and I know more.
After the surgery, Tina contacted me and reported the following:
“The doctor at Orion said that the break had happened a while ago and we really don’t know how long it had been broken because of when we got hands on Raven. She said his muscles had already started to retract, and it would have been painful for him to have that other type of surgery. After the surgery. She said that Raven had come through his surgery and he was doing wonderfully.”
The rescue will be socializing Raven fully and then will find him the purrfect home. Anyone in the Animal Advocacy world knows that so many animals couldn’t be given that second chance at life and love without caring, loving people who are willing spend their own hard-earned money to help. 3/20/23 – Thunder had his surgery last week (see post from March 9). He showed up at the rescuer’s home with a severe wound on his side which was abscessed. The infection was much worse than thought but he came out of surgery like a champ and now he’s a permanent member of the family and loves to cuddle. His mom and rescuer reported that Thunder seems to know how lucky he is and is very sweet and loving. A huge thanks to the staff of Orion Animal Hospital for taking such good care of the many animals we help.- diana.
