PLEASE REMEMBER LUCKY IN YOUR PRAYERS

4/30/24 – Tomorrow he will have surgery to have his eye removed. It was March 27 when we were contacted by a woman who was very concerned when Lucky showed up at her home with a very severe eye issue. An owner could not be found and Teresa (rescuer) took Lucky to her local vet where it was determined that his eye would need to be removed. Lucky was given an injection and surgery was scheduled for tomorrow.

Teresa paid for that visit but needed help for the recommended surgery. Unfortunately, Teresa is in an area of MI where we do not have any partner doctors and the doctor seeing Lucky does not provide non-profit discounts. Consequently, we will be paying the “low estimate” for the surgery as provided by the clinic. Lucky will have a furever home with Teresa. – diana

RIPLEY

4/29/24 – It was the dead of winter when Ripley found her way into a colony cared for by Jessica. She was a little standoffish at first but then started to get closer and closer liking to be petted. Jessica noticed scabs on her body possibly the result of fleas/ticks and she was very thin and had patches of fur missing. We authorized Ripley to be seen at one of our partner vets where she tested negative for FIV/FeLV. She was spayed and vaccinated and treated for her missing fur. Ripley did great and will never be outside again. Another happy beginning! – diana

HEAVEN HAS GAINED ANOTHER FUR ANGLE NAMED BUDDY

On an early Sunday morning in August 2012 my friend James called me about a stray running loose. Dave and I immediately met up with James by 9 and harper where we were all able to coral him inside a fenced area. He was hiding behind shrubs, terrified, and tired. After securing him onto a leash James brought him home, 4 Paws 1 heart covered his medical, and that’s when his journey began.

James quickly formed an inseparable bond with Buddy and that friendship grew over the years.

When Buddy’s health started to decline James was there by his side the entire time, and when Buddy was ready James made the hardest most unselfish decision to let Buddy go peacefully.

Please keep James and Tim in your thoughts and prayers as they try to pick up the pieces of their broken hearts.

Here are some before and afters of Buddy. Gina

SNICKERS AND 3 KITTENS

4/25/24 – Remember our boy, Snickers, who was rescued many years ago by a mom (Cheryl) and her vey young son, Joey. Snickers, just a small kitten was frozen in the icy waters in an alley in Hamtramck and could be heard crying. (see his story on our website). Heartbreakingly, Snickers recently passed away but he has not left our hearts.

Then today, Snickers’ rescuer, Cheryl, contacted us to see if we could help 3 kittens rescued by her nephew who also rescues orphans in need. These three babies, about 10 weeks old, were about to be given to a group of kids in a park by a man who was passing out kittens he had in his backpack. Fearing the kittens would be in danger, the nephew was able to get the 3 kittens and brought them to his Aunt Cheryl. All three had a severe ear mite infestation, one kitten had crusty eyes and no doubt has an upper respiratory infection which would be passed on to the others. Once again, because of this family’s love for animals in need, will be seen at one of our partner vets for their current issues and eventually be vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Cheryl will be adopting them out when fully recovered and vetted. – diana

On a another note, Joey is doing great, an adult living on his own and still rescuing animals.

MUSTACHE NEEDS YOU

4/24/24 – Mustache had been fed by the next door neighbor for years and then one day showed up in Chloe’s backyard with what appeared to be an injured leg. Although both Chloe (the rescuer) and her husband are severely allergic to cats, they brought him into their garage and set him up in a crate with a heating pad and whatever he needed to be comfortable.

We authorized Mustache to be seen at Patterson Veterinary Hospital. He tested positive for FIV (which is only passed on through bite wounds which is unlikely when cats are neutered), and was x rayed. The doctor advised that the injury appeared to be old and it was uncertain whether the leg would need amputation. The rescuer reported that Mustache seemed to be putting a little more weight on his paw but being that he’s living in a crate right now with moments of freedom in the garage, it’s difficult to know for sure.

The doctor called and we discussed next steps and I did the same with the rescuer. The bottom line is that until Mustache has a foster who would be willing to find an adopter or a permanent adopter, we are not sure what to do. We can’t support placing a three-legged cat back outside to fend for himself nor do we want to put a FIV positive cat back outside without being neutered but it still gets back to his leg. SO, the rescuer and 4 paws 1 heart is desperately looking for someone to help this very handsome orphan. 4 paws 1 heart is committed to do what is necessary medically (amputation if needed and neuter). I did ask the doctor to vaccinate Mustache for rabies and distemper while we worked on next steps.

PLEASE contact Chloe at: [email protected] if you can help.

Chloe just told me that he is very sweet and has been such a calm and good boy through all of this. – diana

AUGUST

4/23/24 – August, a German Shepherd, was recently rescued by Streethearts Animal Rescue. He was found in the backyard of a vacant house. The rescuers were told that the residents moved out and left him behind! Unfortunately, August was found positive heart worm positive. This is the 4TH heart worm positive dog Streethearts has rescued from horrible conditions and we are happy to help August get healthy and then Streethearts will find him the perfect home. August will be treated at one of our partner veterinary clinics, West Flint Animal Hospital. Please keep August and the many animals being abused, abandoned, shot, poisoned, and at the very least neglected in your prayers. – diana

MR. PEACHES

4/22//24 – Mr. Peaches was being cared for as a community cat. Michelle was contacted by the community caretaker because Mr. Peaches had a severe issue with a nail (he’s a 6-toe feline) and was not eating as usual. Michelle took Mr. Peaches to a local vet and paid for the treatment of the toe nail but she could not afford the additional diagnosis of a severe mouth infection and dental issue. After getting an estimate from the vet she contacted us. Unfortunately, this was not a partner vet. Michelle offered to raise money and we offered to cover the difference needed. Mr. Peaches had dental extractions and treatment on April 18 and is now on the road to recovery. – diana
