Helena found in Taylor Junkyard

1/15/14: Friends of 4 Paws 1 Hear, Nicole Norton and Melissa Gawel Riddle, contacted us about a beautiful cat who was in very shape and found in a Taylor junkyard. Helena will need all of our help. She was examined and had limited treatment from a veterinary today. Without talking to Melissa Gawel Riddle, who will be fostering this sweetheart for The Devoted Barn, my guess is that she is going to need to see a specialist and I will be working with Melissa to have her seen by our favorite eye specialist, Dr. Easton, of Veterinary Vision of Rochester. Please say prayers and send positive energy — there are far too many cats and dogs who need us. Here is the report from Nicole who took sweet Helena to the vet today. ~ diana

“Helena seen a vet today. She is from the Taylor junk yard. She is in pretty bad shape. Please contact 4 Paws 1 Heart to donate to her medical needs. She has a long road ahead of her and could use some support. She is young, very tiny, has a horrible URI, and eye infections. Her right eye is gone, all that is left is dying tissue that will have to be surgically removed. Waiting on her bloodwork to come back before we go any further. She is safe and comfortable tonight. ” ~ Nicole

Christmas Carole Found Abandoned Under a Trailer

We want to thank our friends at a Michigan Cat Rescue for rescuing this sweetheart, Christmas Carole and 4 Paws 1 Heart is happy to be able to help with medical dollars for her.

Christmas Carole, who was found weighing under three pounds is the kitty they rescued from outdoors. She was living under an abandoned trailer. She had a claw grown into her foot that had to be removed…the vet also thinks she is probably deaf. She suffered from a terrible ear infection that was not treated. She was most likely abandoned. Prayers for this sweet kitty…no animal should have to live outdoors without love ~ MCR

Stevie Had a Fantastic Week

1/13/14 STEVIE HAD A FANTASTIC WEEK: Stevie, our little guy who had his eye enucleated due to a horrendous infection, recently visited Veterinary Vision of Rochester to have his remaining eye and vision evaluated. We are happy to announce that although his vision is limited, the vision he does have should remain the same and not deteriorate. He has also found a forever home where he has two older kitty brothers. His new owner reports he is adjusting well and still purrs non-stop.

Stevie was helped with the the funds created by the 4 Paws 1 Heart/Cats Vet partnership. We are so thankful to Jessica, Licensed Veterinary Technician at the Cats Vet, who took Stevie on her own time to the specialist. We are very thankful to Veterinary Vision for their willingness to work with us and trust us. They took care of our Snickers and our Keller and Dr. Easton and the staff our wonderful to work with. I also want to thank the good people who adopted our Stevie who will now have a loving family to care for him. And, as always, I want to thank our generous supporters who continue to donate so that we can make a difference in the lives of the abandoned and abused. ~ diana

Here I Frosty

Here is “Frosty” brought in by Detroit Police Officers after being found out in the freezing cold. He has 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye and he is about 1 year old. Frosty loves to give kisses, he can sit and lay down on command, he is very very thin and needs to put on some weight. He is good in a crate and on the quiet side. Tested negative for Heartworm disease and he is up to date on vaccinations. If you can help us help Frosty find a foster home we would be happy to cover all his medical and we will line you up with a rescue group to provide his permanent placement. Please email me or Diana if you can help. Gina

Halo Needs a Loving Home

1/10/14 – HALO Needs a Loving Home: This little guy was found in the cold on that very bad snow night last week. He has frostbite on his head and in his ear. We are treating him with antibiotics because he is also anemic. He is in a warm place with blankets and food and he is doing well. We estimate his age to be 3 to 4 years old he is orange, front declawed and he is neutered. This is one of the nicest cats I have ever seen! If you would be willing to open your heart and your home or if you’ve seen him on For the Love of Louie, please let me know by sending me an email at gina.4paws1heart ~ gina

Donald the Duck

1/9/14: Yes, I know 4 Paws 1 Heart is all about domestic animals but sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. Meet Donald, the Duck. Rescued by St. Clair Shore Law Enforcement and the skilled staff of the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center. Here’s Gina’s report:

“Meet Donald the Duck.. He was brought into the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center by law enforcement early yesterday morning after being found injured and bleeding on the side of the road. Officers thought there was no hope for Donald and wanted to make sure he was humanely euthanized. Donald had trauma to an area under his beak that required about 10 stitches. Dr. Matt Capitanio jumped right in to help this little guy and “4 Paws 1 Heart” paid for the medical care. Donald was placed under anesthesia and I assisted Dr. Matt in the repair.
Dr. Matt generally treats cat’s and dog’s but he didn’t hesitate to try, and his efforts have paid off because Mr. Donald is doing wonderful!

Lisa one of the emergency technicians was kind enough to get Donald eating throughout the night with a combination of chopped up lettuce floating in water. As of an hour ago, Dr. Matt Capitanio headed back up to the clinic on his own time and he is transporting Donald the duck to a licensed wildlife veterinarian where he will continue to recover and then be released to the wild where he belongs. Huge thanks to all who were involved in making this happen especially the doctor for giving Donald a fighting chance!!!

Spartacus and Dodger

Spartacus and Dodger were both saved from the Detroit streets by the rescue organization DAWG while they were performing their outreach work. Unfortunately, both dogs are heart worm positive but they are safe and out of the cold. 4 Paws 1 Heart was happy to be able to send some medical dollars for the treatment of these sweet dogs.

Charlie rescued by an EMS worker

1/6/14 – This is Charlie. Charlie was rescued by an EMS worker who was responded to a call about a squatter found frozen in a vacant home. It was love at first sight and the rescuer decided to make Charlie a permanent member of his home. 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for vetting, testing, and vaccines, along with other typical treatment for a cat who has been on the ‘streets’. Little Charlie will also soon be neutered compliments of our great supporters. Thank You, Jon and Family. ~ diana

Meet Faith, Less than 1 lb

1/6/14 – MEET FAITH! Less than 1lb., Faith was an owner surrender. The caring doctors at Harper Woods Veterinary asked if 4 Paws 1 Heart could help. Faith has a cleft pallet and needed to be tube fed around the clock. After checking in with a great friend who owns Lil’ Dogs Resort in St. Clair Shores, Gina agreed to take on the medical needs of Little Faith and Carrie agreed to foster and care for her. It has been touch and go with trips to the Emergency hospital and feedings around the clock not knowing if Faith would make it. But now, we all feel that Faith has turned the corner. She started eating real doggie food and already seems to be getting stronger. Faith is a little Yorkie. ~ diana

Happy 2014 to all of our Friends!

Happy 2014 to all of our Friends! What better way to start the new year than to share a new photo of our little Simba. Simba was found on a construction site. He was just two days old and his mom might have been frightened off by the construction equipment. He was saved by one of the construction workers who brought the kitten to Gina and then continued to keep up with his progress. Gina fostered this baby and lived through all of the around the clock feedings until he was able to be adopted. Fortunately for all of us, our good friend and rescuer of Hercules, Matt Virgadamo, adopted our baby and has obviously taken very good care of him. ~ diana
