Remember sweet precious Mia who was found frozen 2 weeks ago and full of frostbite? I was just talking with her rescuer and her tail and ear amputation are healing, but her pads on feet are sloughing and damaged from the frostbite. We are having the doctor recheck her tomorrow for possibly another round of antibiotics to prevent secondary infection. This girl still needs to be vaccinated and fixed. Just a quick hello from Muffins’. She is doing amazing since her nasopharyngeal stent placement surgery last May. She is thriving in every way and I’m so happy we went with the surgery. Muffins’ is truly living her best life. If you search for her on our Facebook or our Website you can follow her incredible journey. I remember that night in April of 2011 like it was yesterday when a good samaritan rushed this girl into the emergency hospital because she had been hit by a car. Her body was lying in the street with a traffic cone beside her. Cars just kept going. Detroit and Warren wouldn’t respond because she was on the border. A resident walked up to her and she reacted as if that was her family, but they said “nope not my dog” and then walked away. The good samaritan then decided to wrap her in a blanket and brought her to the emergency where I was working at the time.
I offered to have her surrendered to me and 4 Paws 1 Heart would cover her medical. She was named “Dolly” and although she was in shock, bloody, full of abrasions, and hurting, there was not a mean bone in her body. Dr. Roach and I worked on getting her back to health and it was pretty immediate when Dr. Roach fell in love and offered a forever home to Dolly. She ended up covering all of her medical care and gave Dolly the best life ever. There was nothing and I mean NOTHING that Dolly ever needed or wanted. She went to games, traveled, and lived with lots of fur brothers and sisters.
Dolly may have been injured that day, but that incident was the start of her new journey. A few days ago Dolly was put to rest. Her mommy has a shattered heart and misses her beyond words. Please keep Dr. Roach in your prayers as she faces this unbareable loss. I can not stress the impact on animals and humans because of our supporters. It’s because of animals like Dolly that 4 Paws 1 Heart was born. Rest peacefully sweet girl. You had 13 amazing years of endless love. Never forgotten.. Gina
I so remember this incident, Gina, when you contacted me about the call that night. We had so many successes in the days you were at The Emergency in Harper Woods and so many memories. You and the amazing doctors,like Dr. Roach, made such a difference in the lives of humans and the animals saved as well as all of those good Samaritans and first responders who didn’t turn their backs. Your experience at the hospital was the impetus to us starting 4 paws 1 Heart — an organization that wasn’t a rescue but an organization, like no other, that would fund medical treatment for the many animals who were found sick and injured but had no one to help them medically. Thank you for reminding us of sweet Dolly. God bless Dr. Roach for stepping in when she did and then giving Dolly so many years of love and fun. She has been seen wandering around a trailer park in Warren. Residents feed her and she greets them for loving often. A kind family could not stand the thought of Cali freezing during the brutal cold, so they brought her in. They reported her to animal control as found, but no one has shown ownership. Sweet little Cali has a couple broken teeth but she checked out well. 4 paws 1 heart helped get her off to a good start making sure she is healthy, and if no owner comes forward she has a forever home. This guy was living outside as a stray for about 10 years. Last week he showed up lethargic and weak. The rescuer contacted us for fear he was suffering. We authorized an exam at Groesbeck Animal Hospital where the staff quickly got him in for tests and an exam. Tippy was critical and very sick. It was decided that humane euthanasia was the kindest decision to end his suffering. Thank you to those who don’t turn their back on a stray in need. Although they are homeless they deserve love and respect. Gina
2/15/24 – Although 4 Paws 1 Heart is not a rescue and doesn’t have possession of the animals, we assist many independent rescuers who do not have the resources to promote a rescued animal after we’ve assisted with medical treatment. We host a page on Petfinder which is not available to individuals/non-501c3’s, a facebook page called Friends of 4 Paws 1 Heart where animals we’ve helped can be posted and promoted by their rescuer and lastly, the 4P1H Village Kittyroom at the Pet Supplies Plus store on 13 Mile and Harper in St. Clair Shores.
Our Board member, Dee Gudenau, who is very much involved in TNR, caring for cat colonies, and rescue when asked, saw the vacant room at the store, met with the manager, and magically she put together a Kitty Room with the help of those rescuers we’ve assisted in the past. There is also a donation bin at the front of the store for pet supply donations which are then distributed to cat communities and foster animals.
That is why it is named the 4P1H Village Kittyroom — the operative word being ‘VILLAGE’. It’s the product of 4p1h Board members, rescuers who want to promote their rescues, volunteers, and the store staff. All for the sake of God’s creatures who must rely on humans far too often for their survival. – diana

2/15/24 – Zuma was rescued this past Sunday at around 3pm by a rescuer, Emma, whom we’ve helped in the past. Between 3pm and 8am the following morning, Zuma threw up garbage six separate times — pennies, plastic, bags, and popcorn kernels. But as of now that has stopped. Emma reported that it appears that Zuma is not spayed and may have had a recent litter although there were no puppies to be found. Zuma’s female organs are very swollen and her underside is very raw, rough feeling, and has red spots. Her tail and ears appear to have been frostbitten as they sometimes bleed and are scabbing over. Her tail and ankle areas are also very raw and have signs of wounds.
Emma advised that Zuma’s a wonderful dog; very gentle and mellow. She will be fostering Zuma with the help of Make a Difference Rescue and 4 Paws 1 Heart. Zuma will be seen at Five Mile Animal Hospital.

Chance’s legacy will continue to live on in the many animals who will be given that Second Chance at life because of you and your love. 2/11/24 – Chance’s second chance began the day he was driven from the Genesee County Shelter to Clinton Twp. By a kind employee of DTE. And with a lot of love from his new family and the expertise of Dr. Kern (Hercules’ mom) and her staff, Chance was eventually able to walk. – diana
MOM: Good Sunday morning Team I thought you might enjoy this video I put together of Chance a couple years ago. I have to tell you when Chance came to me in 2015 I was clueless about paralyzed cats! No idea how to express a bladder, help with . Knew nothing about laser, accupunture, kitty physical therapy, oh gosh…sooo many things. But we learned together and Chance was always so patient with me. He changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. And sooo many have came becuse of Chance. All the bottle babies and preemies. Injured and sick, seniors, Carlos who was hospice, Carla who is rear paralyzed. He always looked at me like “come on mom, we got this…I’ll help you! ” Chance made sure so many others got their Second Chance, becuse he got his.The reality of it is, without 4 Paws 1 Heart…there would have not been that amazing, amazing gentle, determined, spirited, hilarious, life changing SuperHero Chance. Nor would there be a Bridgette, Carla, Trixie, Twyla, Bobbi and even Baby. They all came in under emergency circumstances under the loving wing of 4p1h. Together with 4 Paws 1 Heart we will continue to make sure his legacy will continue through the lives that will continue to be saved.
