Here is a message referred to us from Jo Addington who has been trying to find homes for many felines this year. Please share, and if anyone can give this family some shelter while they get stabilize, please contact Jo at [email protected] ~ diana

“Hello Jo,
First, thank you so very much for helping this family of kittens/momma. We appreciate 4 Paws 1 Heart’s willingness to step in and have momma cat’s wounds looked at. She has done an incredible job taking care of her adorable babies in the toughest of conditions – now it is time for her to be taken care of. She kept those kittens warm and healthy – many times sacrificing her own need for food. She is estimated to be between 3-5 years of age. She was definitely someone’s pet that was dumped in the woods by Marylou’s house. She has 4 kittens – 2 orange fluff balls, one grey/brown pile of fluff and one sleek black (this one is the runt). We are estimating the babies around 5-6 weeks. They can be held and are starting to purr when given kitten rubs. They are still scared and could use an environment where someone could give a little time to continue to earn their trust. Momma is a dilute calico. The upper lip on the left side of her face is missing . It is obvious that she was attacked at some point and endured a painful healing process. At this time she has tested positive for Feline Leukemia, however, the vet indicated that she should be tested again due to a possible false positive given her stressful situation. The kittens can be tested in 6 weeks. Until then – we are praying for a foster for the babies as well as mom. They are currently in an x-large crate in my garage (with a heater running and warm blankets, etc). They all have been through so much and I would like nothing more than them to full compassion and love.

I know I wrote a lot here – sorry. I am passionate (as is Marylou) about stray and abandoned animals. We both have rescued several that are now permanent fixtures of our homes. I am unable to keep them long-term given my 3 other rescue cats (one who is elderly and has her own illness).

There are several pics for you to choose from. If you have any questions – please let me know.

On the Road with Katniss to Educate on Animal Cruelty

11/7/14 –  Gina, Katniss, and I very much appreciated our opportunity to talk about animal abuse at the Jr. Leadership Macomb Community Service Day. As Gina said, if we can just save one animal from being abused or tortured, it will have been all worthwhile. Here’s our baby a little tuckered out even though she never left a lap the whole time and just had to lay and look pretty in her new coat from Aunt Carrie. ~ dianaKatniss:lmpresentation11:8:14katnissaftrjrlm11:8:14

Left Behind – Cat Cruelty

11/7/14 – joaddleftbehind(2)11:11:14 joaddleftbehind11:12:14While Katniss recovers and gets lots of attention, cats and kittens continue to be rescued from the streets or even worse from abandoned homes. These two sweethearts were left behind when the owner could no longer care for them. They are both declawed. The Tiger kitty is 2 years old and the orange kitty is 10 years old. They are living in the home by themselves possibly fed by relatives. There are so many cats and kittens needing homes and they make wonderful pets in all homes but a senior cat is the perfect pet for those less mobile who just want lots of love with very little effort. I could not imagine a life without my three babies. Please contact Jo at [email protected] if you can give them a foster or permanent home. ~ Diana

The Love and Guidance of a Sister – Katniss and Angel

11-6-14 Happy Lunch Hour!! I wanted to get this to you to give you a smile on this gloomy day. Katniss and her buddy, Angel, are two survivors. Angel was taken in when she was brought into emergency dying of Parvo. Gina took personal responsibility for her care. Angel has been a blood donor on several occasions and regularly helps take care of bottle babies — no matter if they are kittens or puppies. And, although it is early in the game, we feel strongly that Katniss will prove to be a survivor — she has too many people praying for her to expect otherwise. Here is Angel giving up most of her bed so that Katniss can sleep comfortably. Looking at Katniss’ exposed belly makes me think that she is starting to feel trust. I honestly believe that God has given Gina a special gift where just her touch and voice will exude love and trust in any animal she is with — no matter how abused or injured. Enjoy! ~ DianaKatnissandAngel11:6:14

Katniss Everdean – Loved and Spoiled

11/5/14 – katnissw:newsweater 11:5:14Guess Who Got Some New Clothes Today from Aunti Di? If you guessed Katniss Everdeen, you are right. Last night was her first night out of the hospital and she spent it with Gina. I just love her and couldn’t wait to show off how beautiful she looks in her new sweater. I also want to thank Pet People in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI for their commitment to donate nutritional food for our goal and she recovers from her emaciation. BTW the sweater was purchased at Pet People. ~ diana

Katniss Everdean – The Face of Animal Cruelty

11/5/14 –

11/5/14 – Katnissbathingll:15:14Good Morning Friends – Many of our friends have asked whether we have contacted the authorities about Katniss or if anyone is investigating her abuse. I thought that I would share my own personal response to those questions in hopes that those of you who have been moved by Katniss’ story will become inspired to act. And because my opinion is harsh, I have included a photo of Katniss’ first bath. ~ diana

“The answer to those questions is ‘no’. The reasons are many and none of them are really good but unfortunately it is reality. Animals are considered property and although the State has some strong cruelty laws, enforcement is less than adequate. If you take incidents like Katniss where she was found in a City where child shootings, robberies, and murders are ordinary activities of the day, the police and prosecutors have very little time to respond or investigate individual cases like this. Also, where would one start? The curb she was found at was in front of a vacant home in a neighborhood where most homes were either vacant or gone. Having said that, enforcement of animal cruelty laws in most communities is pretty much non-existent. Dog fighting rings are in every community and for some reason, you rarely hear anything about raids or shutting them down. There are puppy mills who blatantly operate in the open with females producing litter after litter stuffed in cages for their entire reproducing life and then dumped on the streets or left to die and yet very little is done to shut them down. An alleged rescue was found with over 100 dead cats and others in various stages of death and yet she is not in jail nor has she even been prosecuted and she is allegedly back to rescuing. And, to me, even more heinous is the fact that law enforcement continues to turn their backs to pest control companies who are trapping cats and killing them, even though it is against the law. And, even worse, to me are those cities like Sterling Heights, Eastpointe, Roseville, and many others, who are ‘legally’ killing stray cats by taking them to kill shelters or places like the Animal Care Hospital of Sterling Heights where the cities pay to have the cats killed. Sorry to get on my soap box but how can anyone take our cruelty laws seriously when all of this is going on. People who care really do need to get involved, get educated, and start truly being the ‘voice of the voiceless’.” ~ diana
