Carlos – RIP Sweet Boy – You Fought a Good Fight

RIP Our Sweet Carlos. We are so thankful that you came into our lives and that we were able to give you the best year you probably ever had. Thank You to Chief Randazzo of the Macomb County Animal Control for helping us get Carlos so that we could help him. Without you, Denise Najera, and his former family, we would have never been able to give you another year of life and love. Uncle T and I loved being with you just a short while ago and as Mr. April in our calendar, we hope that our many friends will never forget you. Please seek out my babies and run free without pain. xoxo ~ Auntie Dicarlos 2:1:17

Smokey Joe – Forgotten and Abused By His Family Until the Decided to Give Him Up

2/1/17 – Meet Smokey Joe who is with I Heart Dogs Rescue and Animal Haven. I Heart Dogs is not only a great no-kill shelter but they also help a local non-profit which houses victims of domestic and sexual violence and assists them through the process of healing. Very often, victims of abuse will stay in an abusive situation because of a pet. They worry that the family pet will be harmed by the abuser. Thankfully, I Heart Dogs came along and decided to provide temporary shelter in these situations. We found out about Smokey because, as is usually the case, his medical bills were increasing and the shelter needed help with Smokey’s medical needs. We were happy to help Smokey and I Heart Dogs. After several doctor visits, 4 Paws 1 Heart assisted Smokey with further tests with a specialist. Here is the beginning of his story:

“Smokey Joe was surrendered to us in late November because his owner was moving in with her fiancé who is scared of dogs. He is a 5 year old pit-bull that her son brought him home as a young puppy. Smokey Joe lived with her until he was surrendered to us in November. Smokey Joe weighed 67 lbs. when surrendered to us and seemed to be in good health, but we immediately noticed his disinterest in eating. We attributed it to being depressed. We tried all kinds of food as well as hand-feeding so that he would take in some nutrition. After a month one of our volunteers, Terri, volunteered to foster him and took him home right after Christmas. Within the first week of foster, she noticed he was walking on the top of his back left foot and he seemed to be in pain. He was taken to our regular vet, Wilson’s Veterinary Hospital, where we learned he now weighed 40 lbs., and that his foot (and possibly his entire leg) had no feeling (which attributed to walking on his foot incorrectly).”smokey jo 2:1:17

Carlos – Still Fighting Cancer

2/1/17 – Please pray for our Carlos. His tumor keeps getting bigger and we’ve already decided to not have him go through another surgery. He is the sweetest and he is so loved by his rescue family. Thank you, Carlos, for always thinking about your buddies outside instead of yourself. We love you. – Aunt Di. xox  Here’s an update from Carlos.

“Ahem! Ahem! Hello Team, its me…Carlos. So Im still hanging in there as you can see. But I must admit Im not feeling my best. I havent been eating as good as mom would like like the last couple days. But Ive had an off day or two before then perked right back up again! So we’ll see how I feel over the next day or so. Thankyou 4 Paws 1 Heart for refilling my meds today! Chance says were expecting a lot of snow overnight so make sure everything is set with your feral houses. Plenty of straw, turned away from wind and blowing snow. And make sure in the morning the snow is not blocking the opening and they have access to their food and water. Shoveling a nice path for them is a great idea. And dont forget about your elderly neighbors, be kind and shovel their snow for them! We’re gonna all snuggle in now, we’ll see you tomorrow. Love, purrrs & woofs Carlos, Chance & the Gang

Tinker and Belle – They Had a Wonderful Father Until He Suddenly Died

Tinker and Belle were taken in as bottle babies and later adopted to a wonderful man who gave them so much love. Unfortunately, the dad suddenly passed away one day leaving Tinker and Belle homeless. Fortunately, the family contacted Dee who had rescued them and Dee took them back in to her loving home. Today, we are so thrilled to announce that a new loving home has been found. Here is Chance’s report. ~ diana

Apollo – He Just Walked into the Door

1/27/17 – This little sweetie, Apollo, walked up to the porch and when the owner opened the door, he just walked into the home like it was his. The homeowner is a volunteer for A Better Place Animal Rescue and we were contacted to see if we could pay for the usual medical treatment — vaccinations, testing, and neutering. We said we could and now this little guy has wormed his way into the hearts of the entire family — never to be rained or snowed on again. ~ diana

Dasher and Blitzen – Found in a Barn; Very Sick and Emaciated

Blitzen before 1:26:171/26/17 – Before and After pics of “Dasher and Blitzen”. Just before Christmas I got a call from a friend in Yale Mi. He was trying to save these 2 kittens that were running inside the barn, it was cold, and they were very sick. They wouldn’t have survived much longer. My mom drove me there and with the help of my friend Doug and my mom, we were able to catch them. I took them home and got them fattened up and healthy. The girl went to her new home a couple weeks ago and the boy went this week. Both homes that I couldn’t be happier with. Now they will live wonderful lives and that’s what it’s all about. ♡ Ginadasher 1:26:17Blitzen after 1:26:17Dasher after 1:26:17

Sassy – Her Owner Could No Longer Care for Her

sasshy w:kendra 1:19:17sassy w:kendra beiz 1:19:171/25/17 – Sassy was going to be taken to a shelter because the owner could no longer care for her. A caring woman stepped in and took Sassy into her home and to the vet. Unfortunately, it was determined that 11 year old Sassy was heart-worm positive and we were then called for help. We agreed to help this old girl and referred her to one of our vets. It was determined then that the heart worm was not very advanced and that Sassy would be a good candidate for an alternative treatment other than the very painful injections. The doctor believes that Sassy will die from old age before she will die from the heart worm. She is one beautiful girl who will now be able to spend her last days in a home with love. ~ diana

Nino – Either Lost or Thrown Away but Saved and Now Looking for His Forever Home

1/24/17 – Last week I received a call from a long-time friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart about a beautiful cat who showed up in her window box. The cat was very friendly and obviously wanted to be inside. Our friend and cat whisperer, Debra Berolatti, was called into action and a plan was put in place. Within a few days, Nino, was picked up, brought to the vet to be neutered, tested, and vaccinated and he was then delivered to our friends at Ferndale Cat Shelter and the Catfe Lounge. It truly takes a village, friends. Without donations, veterinarians, and loving people, we could not continue to give these abandoned and lost animals a second chance. ~ diananinow:gracelegreley 1:19:17nino at Cat Cafe 1:19:17
