“Hey everybody, it’s me Roo! I’m home from Dr. Z’s, had my food & ready for a nap! Soooo, Dr. Z did bloodwork & urine test and we have to wait till tomorrow for the results of those tests. She also tested my eye pressure becuse my left eye (which I really cant see out of anyway) is a bit bulging this morning and very red. My pressure was a bit high so Dr. Z gave me eye drops & pain meds. Shes very concerned that Glaucoma could be the cause of a lot of my problems. It could be causing me pain and that would keep me up at night, cause my to drink more water, which causes me to have to pee more. Part could also be a bit of dementia as well. But we dont know anything for sure till my bloodwork & urine come back tomorrow. I have to also go back in a week to get my eye pressure rechecked. Hopefully the drops will control the pressure, if not..we have to talk about how to relieve the pressure pain. What we do know is my heart & lungs sound pawesome and moms super happy about that!
One thing is always a constant… my happiness, well being and quality of life is and will always be the #1 priority to both mom and 4 Paws 1 Heart. Sooo, stay tuned and we’ll keep you all posted when my test results come back ❤ Love yous, Love Roo – Mom”
Samantha – Adopted and Out of the Shelter
1/10/19 – My Christmas Wish came true and it happened only 3 days after Christmas!! I have hesitated to make this post because I wanted to give it time, but I think it is safe to say things are going GREAT in her “foster to possibly adopt” home.
Six months ago Samantha was surrendered to “4 paws 1heart” to save her life and then she went to our friends at “I heart dog rescue and shelter” until permanent placement could be found. Her first 2 yrs of life with her previous owner was unhealthy, but I wont get into that.
I’ve gone to visit her every few weeks bringing her toys and chicken. I was the one she immediately bonded with, and I couldn’t just drop her off in an unfamiliar place and never look back. I promised her I’d visit until she left the shelter.
I left EVERY shelter visit either crying, feeling sad, helpless, or questioning if I’d done the right thing. She’d always try to get in my car or frantically pull towards me when being taken back to her area. Most days she just looked sad, scared, and lost. Only certain people could handle her and they were truly AMAZING. The shelter volunteers helped her on so many levels that I couldn’t. They built her shattered spirit. They gave her confidence. They taught her trust. She was broken down on every level…
OK, so very quick about her potential HOME. A family came to the shelter to offer fostering a dog. They sounded like a good fit for Sam, so they were then introduced. She immediately felt comfortable and greeted them with kisses (it took several weeks to show a sliver of that trust with most new people). Then she tried to go home with them!!! A home check was set up and after that a pick up day was scheduled which was on Dec.28th.
I was contacted about the AMAZING news and of course went to visit her 2 hours before the big moment!! I was given more kisses that visit than any other and I could feel her vibe was DIFFERENT! Almost like she knew that her time for a forever chance at LOVE had now come. The family has sent 3 updated pics and all is going GREAT! Samantha has a furry friend that has a history of anxiety and she is adjusting to her new life very well. I’m happy for not giving up and mostly for the shelter staff who worked with her and gave me hope. Samantha could not just be placed in any home. She was special needs do to her history of abuse. There is a loving home out there for every animal. Just because they are broken doesn’t mean they should be destroyed. Thank you all for the shares and for hearing my story♡. This is a video of my visit several weeks ago where I felt she was so sad…Gina
SweetPea – Found Running the Streets After Being Thrown Out of a Car
1/10/19 – Meet SweetPea. She was found running the streets. The neighbors told the rescuer that she was thrown out of a car. SweetPea was rescued by a long-time supporter of 4p1h and she offered to foster while a rescue could find another foster home. A huge thank you to our friends at Rebel Dogs Detroit for taking SweetPea under their rescue. 4p1h was happy to cover SweetPea’s visit to the vet. It truly takes a village. ~ diana

Orion – RIP Sweet Boy – Found in a Field Unable to Move
1/9/19 – RIP Sweet Orion – The rescue community came alive when it was reported that this poor cat was laying out in the harsh weather of yesterday, seemingly unable to move. Our good friend, Shelley Emerson, contacted me and I approved for Orion to be taken to one of our favorite veterinarians, Dr. Zalac. Shelley made it to the office before closing and Orion was found to be nearly paralyzed in all four legs. X-Rays were done — all negative of breaks; basic blood work was done — all negative of any obvious issues. Dr. Z put Orion on general antibiotics and planned to test for toxoplasmosis in the morning. Just a little while ago, Dr. Z called me to say that Orion passed away during the night. The staff did everything to make her comfortable and warm. We are beyond thankful to our many vets who work with us and most importantly, people like Shelley who drove all of the way from the far east side of Macomb County to Fenton to Lake Orion. May God Bless her and all of the caring rescuers in our community. We can only be comforted by the fact that Orion did not die alone in that field. ~ diana

Roscoe – He Showed Up on a Porch, Heart Worm Positive and Limping
1/3/19 – Roscoe showed up on a porch in Detroit. He is in rough shape. He has a skin irritation that has caused fur loss, scabbing, and scaling up his whole back side. He has a limp in one of his front paws that seems to be caused from an injury. He has many missing teeth and what is there are mostly rotten. He is also heart worm positive. And as if that wasn’t enough, he has a large tumor on his back that will have to be biopsied to find out if it’s cancerous. 4 Paws 1 Heart is funding Roscoe’s heart worm treatment and anyone interested in this sweet dog should contact our friends at Rebel Dogs Detroit who rescued him. Please remember him in your prayers. ~ diana

2017: 1/1/17 – Happy 2017! One of my many struggles (besides fundraising) is to balance the happy beginning updates with our current efforts. But, being it’s another new year and the fact that we have so many new followers, I thought I would start it off with an update on Peanut. It was 2010 when Peanut was brought into the emergency where Gina was working. As you can see from the photo, he was like a stuffed animal without the stuffing; he couldn’t even lift his little head to eat. Gina and the phenomenal staff helped Peanut survive and eventually the perfect mom was found. Peanut’s mom recently tagged us with this photo of Peanut and his grandma. ‘Mom’ said that Peanut is really not as big as he looks in that Grandma is so small. We are so very happy we were able to give Peanut that second chance at a Wonderful Life. Your donations at work. ~ Diana
Happy 2019
12/31/18 – As we come to a close for 2018, we just want to thank our many supporters who continue to donate their hard-earned money, attend our fundraisers, rescue/foster the abandoned and abused, and the many who just spread the word about our mission. Without you and our generous veterinarians who work with us, we would not have been able to save thousands of animals and pay $734,000 in medical bills over the last 8 years. May your 2019 be filled with much love, laughter, good health, and doggie and kitties kisses. – diana

Thank YOU
12/30/18 – A huge thank you toColleen’s Irish Pub for hosting our fundraiser. Thank you to Andy for the great food and for considering our vegetarians and vegans. And, thank you to the amazing 78 people who came out during the hubbub of the holidays to support 4 paws 1 heart. I truly can’t express how much fun I had meeting and talking with those who love animals as much as we do. – diana
