Blaz – Showed Up in the “Right” Yard, Found to be Heart Worm Positive

UPDATE:  Our good friends who live in the Traverse City, MI area will be adopting Blaz after his heart worm treatment is completed.

blaz 3:26:19 blaz-3:26:19 blaz--3:26:19 blaz==3:26:193/26/19 – Blaz showed up in Alanda’s yard. She was told to contact us for help. Of course, we had Blaz seen as soon as we could and he was found to be heart worm positive. Blaz was very emaciated and also had an infection, parasites, and needs to be neutered. The doctor wants him to put on a little weight before heart worm treatment starts. Poor Alanda only knows about cats and has been searching every where to find placement with a rescue. Unfortunately, with 80+ dogs recently found in Macomb County in just two homes, every rescued is stretched to the limits.
We have committed to Blaz’s medical care and Alanda is doing her best to care for Blaz with advice from Gina. Alanda says that Blaz is a very sweet dog. Please contact Alanda at: [email protected] if you can help with placement. ~ diana

Holly – Found Lying on the Side of a Freeway After Being Hit by a Car

3/18/19 – Holly was found lying on the side of a freeway. She had been hit by a car. She had an open head wound and was bleeding from her nose. The good Samaritan who found her brought her immediately to a vet and then contacted Rebel Dogs of Detroit. Holly’s wounds were treated but it was determined that she was unable to to use her hind legs. She had a dislocated vertebrae pressing on her spine; a neurologist determined that surgery was not possible. Hearing this, 4 Paws 1 Heart offered to have Holly seen by Dr. Tari Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine. Holly has had two therapy treatments and two laser treatments and is scheduled for more. We will be talking with Dr. Kern to learn more about Holly’s prognosis. The rescue tells us that Holly is a true ‘love bug’ and she is definitely doing better since her treatments. Anyone interested in giving her a forever home should contact rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt

Please remember that without your financial support we could never take on these cases. Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. ~ diana

Rosie Roo – Diagnosed With Dogzeimers

3/14/19 – Having gone through the experience of Sundowner’s syndrome with both Tony’s mom and my mom, my heart breaks for what Rosie Roo is going through. In my mom’s case, she didn’t recognize my dad and would see him as a stranger or sometimes her mother. Every night she would call in fear because she was totally disoriented and wanted me to go to her house. By the next morning things would be better but then it would start again at night. Unfortunately this syndrome eventually leads to full-blown dementia. Our Rosie, although, a senior dog, is going through similar issues of disorientation, restlessness, and fear. Please say a little prayer for her and the family because there are no magic pills. And unlike the case with humans, the most difficult decision we have to make for our pets, will have to be made for Rosie. Thank you to all of our friends who have helped us support Rosie since the day she was rescued. Her life wasn’t easy but she has been much loved. – dianarosie roo 3:14:19 dementiaFrom a Second Chance For Chance:  Hey Team, its me….your gurl Roo!!! A lot of you have been asking today how I slept last night. We’re sorry we didnt get back to you earlier but mom had an early appt with Grandma at the drs for Grandma’s 1st after surgery check up! And then when mom came home we all had a nice nap 😴. Great news for Grandma, shes doing awesome!!!!
Soooo, We didnt get too much sleep last night but we did get maybe 2hrs, we were happy for that! Doggy Dementia is a real thing and it’s scary. Waking up disoriented and scared of course I’m going to bark for mom even if shes 2ft away. Along with the symptoms listed here, you have to remember I am about 17yrs old and my sight & hearing are also pretty bad and my arthritis is hurting more & more where I have to be carried up & down the stairs a lot at night now. Mom would never ever make me sleep downstairs by myself and our bedroom is upstairs. We’ve been trying different meds to help with all these problems, but so far nothing helps too much. Mom will be seeing Dr. Z tomorrow when she makes the trip with Auntie Debra to take Auntie Debras Louie for his dental and our Trixie for her check up. Mom & Dr. Z will discuss what other meds might be a good option for me to help at night. One thing we all know is the most important thing to mom & 4 Paws 1 Heart is MY happiness, MY comfort and MY quality of life. With those things in mind, I know mom will always do what’s best for me.
Well, I do believe I feel a nap coming on!
Love yous, Love Roo

Bubby – Found Outside of a Pizzaria; Cold, Dirty, Beaten, Emaciated, and with Heart Worm

3/11/19 – Bubba was hanging around a Buddy’s Pizza in Detroit. Although he was very emaciated and looking for food, it took one hour to get him into the rescuer’s car. He had many gashes on his body, was obviously starving, beaten up, and dirty. Nina, the rescuer, took him into her home and the following day, he mostly slept, ate, and drank water. We made arrangements for Bubba to be seen by one of our partner vets. He will be neutered, vaccinated, treated for heart worm and anything else he may need. Anyone interested in Bubba should contact Nina at: [email protected] ~diana

Freya – Used as a Bait Dog

3/4/19 – Her savior named her Freya. Freya may have been used as a bait dog. She had several bite wounds and scars on her body, very malnourished with a broken tail, injured jaw, and missing teeth. Her rescuer was able to get her away from her abuser and contacted us for help. Freya was seen by Dr. Zalac at Orion Animal Hospital. Dr. Z determined that Freya’s tail will have to heal on its own. Her jaw was not broken but she is missing multiple teeth. Her existing teeth are healthy so the doctor believes she was probably kicked in the face which caused the teeth to fall out. After some healing occurs, Freya will be spayed. Please pray that this girl can forget what she’s been through and enjoy the love of her rescuer. ~ diana

Lulu – Rescued as a Stray and Not Yet Adopted. She Has Cataracts and an Abscessed Tooth

3/1/19 – Lulu Belle showed up as a stray one day. Several attempts were made to find her owner but she was never claimed. The kind, elderly man who found her continued to care for her although he could not afford it. A rescue friend has been providing food but now this senior girl needs some serious medical assistance and we were contacted for help. Lulu Belle had been bumping into walls and getting disoriented when she is outside in the bright snow. We made arrangements for her to be seen by one of our favorite doctors, Dr. Zalac at Orion Animal Hospital.
Lulu Belle was seen the next day and it was determined that she does have a cataract. But, what might have been causing the disorientation and the bumping into walls, is an abscessed tooth which needs to be extracted as well as an overall dental.. Lulu Belle had her vaccines updated was given antibiotics and and she tested negative for heart worm. Dr. Zalac did not believe the cataracts were an issue at this time but if they appear to be a problem in the future, the eye will be treated with medication. Her dental surgery was completed February 27, 2019 and she had to have 9 teeth extracted!! Can you imagine the pain this girl must have been in??? She is still feeling pretty miserable but she is getting lots of love and our rescue friend is making sure she has the proper food to eat. Please say a little prayer that Lulu Belle feels better soon. ~ diana
