Big Daddy and Farrah Rescued from the Streets of Detroit

10/3/24 – On August 14 we posted about two very sweet dogs rescued from the streets of Detroit — Big Daddy and Farrah. We were asked to help with vetting which we did but sadly Big Daddy was found to be positive for heart worm. Big Daddy will see Dr. Mina at Five Mile Animal Hospital where he will begin his treatment. Paws crossed for Big Daddy. Without our donors and our friends who attend our fundraisers, we could not assist the many animals and independent rescuers who need our help.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the kind and generous animal lovers who think of us at one of the most difficult times in their lives — when they lose a loved one. At this time I would like to thank our Board member Denise Najera and her sister Shelly who lost their mom in August, Renae Rooks who lost her husband in September, the Foronator Family who recently lost their loved one, Benjamin, and to my dad, Robert Jelsone who passed away in September and chose (while in hospice) to have donations made to 4 Paws 1 Heart in lieu of flowers.

May God be with the families and may those left on earth find solace in knowing that so many animals will have a second chance at life (like Big Daddy) because of their love. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Prayers for Pooh

10/2/24 – Prayers for Pooh who was rescued by Brooke’s good friend when she found this very sweet cat wandering around her house. Pooh was infested with fleas and worms. His rescuer to a vet to have him treated, neutered and vaccinated but then learned that he had an eye condition called Entropion.

Unfortunately, the friend couldn’t afford the surgery and talked to Brooke who then took in Pooh and contacted us. Pooh will be seen on October 9 at Orion Animal Hospital where he will be assessed and then scheduled for the surgery.

Although we’ve talked about Entropion in other posts, Entropion is a condition where the eyelashes grow inward to the eyeball; if left untreated, it could result in blindness.

Brooke will keep us informed and we’ll be sure to keep our supporters updated. Pooh is about 3 years old and we can’t wait for him to be living without pain. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Meet Love, Cashew, Athena, and Aurora.

9/29/24 – Meet Love, Cashew, Athena, and Aurora. Three of the kittens were born from a feral mom taken in my a friend of 4paws 1 heart, Melissa. Then Melissa noticed a facebook post about a kitten who was rescued and being bottle fed by a kind couple. The couple could no longer care for the kitten.

Melissa was concerned about the number of people ‘interested’ in the kitten and decided to take in the kitten along with the other 3. They all contracted upper respiratory infections; we took care of that at our veterinary partner, Groesbeck Animal Hospital.

Once they all recovered, they were tested, vaccinated, and neutered/spayed at Rescue Veterinary Services. A huge thanks to our donors who make our work possible. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Gizmo and Baby Girl

9/28/24 – Gizmo (son) and Baby Girl (mom) were being fed by a kind woman who is on a fixed income and who started feeding them as strays when her husband passed away this past summer.

Baby Girl had actually had two kittens but one passed away and her remaining kitten has an upper respiratory infection. That is when the rescuer brought both into her home. We authorized Gizmo to be seen at one of our partner vets and he was treated.

Baby Girl will be tested for FIV/FeLV and both will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered when Gizmo has recovered from his infection. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Meet Gabbard and Please Keep Her in Your Prayers

9/25/24 – This morning our friends at Orion Animal Hospital (OAH) contacted us about a kitten that was brought into them the first thing this morning. She was found by the side of a road after a day and night of heavy rain. She is very lethargic and emaciated.

The very kind rescuer said she would give the kitten a furever home if she could be saved but she only had limited funds to help with the medical. OAH asked if we could help fund this precious kitten and attempt to save her life.

The kitten is currently at Orion Animal Hospital receiving the care she needs. We will keep everyone posted once we have more answers.

Meet Gabbard and please keep her in your prayers. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Lucky was Rescued When Seen on the Shoulder of I94

9/24/24 – Lucky was rescued when seen on the shoulder of I94. The poor baby was frightened and actually bit his rescuer (she was seen by a doctor and treated) but once Christal took Lucky home with her he calmed down and loved the attention. Christal took him to All About Animals to be vaccinated in that she has other pets but they could only give him age (9-10 weeks) appropriate vaccines.

But, the doctor did suspect that Lucky’s leg was broken and was advised to see a full-service veterinary clinic. That is when we were contacted. We authorized Lucky’s visit at Patterson Veterinary Hospital where the doctor confirmed the broken leg but also said that the leg had already healed but not properly. And, Lucky is actually only about 5 weeks old.

At this time, we will be waiting until Lucky is a little older to have a follow up appointment for his leg and at that time he will be vaccinated and neutered. We are praying that Lucky will not need to have his leg amputated but will be able to live and get around with a poorly-healed leg versus a ‘missing one’.

There’s a strong possibility that Christal’s retired mom will adopt Lucky so he will have lots of love and care. Christal will keep me updated. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Leo, Casper, and Ashes Rescued From Mobile Park

9/24/24 – Leo (orange), Casper (brown/white), and Ashes (brown) were found in the middle of the street in a mobile home park. Unfortunately, the mom could not be found; the rescuer estimates they are about 5 weeks old.

The rescuer was able to get help for a slight upper respiratory infection and fleas but the person needed help for the spay/neuter and vaccines when the time comes.

Wisely, the rescuer, Kailee, knew that it was better to plan ahead because appointments can be far out. But before we could authorize the appointment, poor little Ashes passed away.

So, prayers for the two boys that they will make it and and go on to live a long, loved life. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Update on Diego’s Story

9/23/24 – On 9/11//24 we told Diego’s story and today I want to share the happy update:

“Hi Diana! I just wanted to thank you again for helping me with Diego. I sincerely appreciate all that you guys do. Diego is doing well and it looks like he has a forever home with a family that has experience with another heart worm dog that they adopted. He is still not himself yet after receiving his injections but I look forward to him bouncing back.

Sincerely, Tonya”.

Another beautiful life saved because of the love and generosity of caring people.

Thank You – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/
