3/17/19 – Smokey was rescued from the streets. He is very sweet and just needed to be neutered, vaccinated, and tested. We were happy to do that and he and Mia (see her story on 4 paws 1 heart.org) are best friends. ~ diana

Slippers – A Domesticated Cat with an Upper Respiratory Infection Found in a Cat Community
3/15/19 – Slippers showed up in a cat community cared for by Greg. Unlike the other cats in the community, Slippers walked right up to Greg, obviously wanting some petting. Greg took him in and asked us for help. It turns out that Slippers is 3-4 years old and is neutered. We took care of his vaccinations, testing, and treatment for an upper respiratory infection. Greg recently contacted me and reported that Slippers is doing well. The infection is clearing up and he has his own room for now. Rosie Roo – Diagnosed With Dogzeimers
3/14/19 – Having gone through the experience of Sundowner’s syndrome with both Tony’s mom and my mom, my heart breaks for what Rosie Roo is going through. In my mom’s case, she didn’t recognize my dad and would see him as a stranger or sometimes her mother. Every night she would call in fear because she was totally disoriented and wanted me to go to her house. By the next morning things would be better but then it would start again at night. Unfortunately this syndrome eventually leads to full-blown dementia. Our Rosie, although, a senior dog, is going through similar issues of disorientation, restlessness, and fear. Please say a little prayer for her and the family because there are no magic pills. And unlike the case with humans, the most difficult decision we have to make for our pets, will have to be made for Rosie. Thank you to all of our friends who have helped us support Rosie since the day she was rescued. Her life wasn’t easy but she has been much loved. – diana
From a Second Chance For Chance: Hey Team, its me….your gurl Roo!!! A lot of you have been asking today how I slept last night. We’re sorry we didnt get back to you earlier but mom had an early appt with Grandma at the drs for Grandma’s 1st after surgery check up! And then when mom came home we all had a nice nap 😴. Great news for Grandma, shes doing awesome!!!!
Soooo, We didnt get too much sleep last night but we did get maybe 2hrs, we were happy for that! Doggy Dementia is a real thing and it’s scary. Waking up disoriented and scared of course I’m going to bark for mom even if shes 2ft away. Along with the symptoms listed here, you have to remember I am about 17yrs old and my sight & hearing are also pretty bad and my arthritis is hurting more & more where I have to be carried up & down the stairs a lot at night now. Mom would never ever make me sleep downstairs by myself and our bedroom is upstairs. We’ve been trying different meds to help with all these problems, but so far nothing helps too much. Mom will be seeing Dr. Z tomorrow when she makes the trip with Auntie Debra to take Auntie Debras Louie for his dental and our Trixie for her check up. Mom & Dr. Z will discuss what other meds might be a good option for me to help at night. One thing we all know is the most important thing to mom & 4 Paws 1 Heart is MY happiness, MY comfort and MY quality of life. With those things in mind, I know mom will always do what’s best for me.
Well, I do believe I feel a nap coming on!

Beautiful Full Oinker – Found on the Service Drive of a Major Freeway
3/14/19 – Her rescuer named her Beautiful Full Oinker because she is beautiful and she makes a sound like ‘oinking’. She was found on a service drive of I-94. Attempts have been made to find her owner, but so far without success. Beautiful’s medical treatment will be covered by 4 Paws 1 Heart and she is currently in a home which may become her forever home. We are always very thankful to the many kind-hearted people who do not turn their backs on an animal in need. ~ diana

Luna Bea – Found in a Ditch with a Urinary Tract Infection
3/13/19 – Luna Bea was found in a ditch. She has a urinary tract infection but other than that appears healthy. She will be getting treated for her infection this week, then get vaccinated, spayed, and tested. Our good friends at Ferndale Cat Shelter will then be taking her under their wing. It truly takes a village!! – diana

Annabelle – A Neighborhood Cat for 10 Years Suffering from an Abdominal Hernia
3/12/19 – Annabelle was either abandoned or escaped from her home almost 10 years ago!! She had been a ‘neighborhood’ cat for this long until one day she ‘adopted’ one family. They realized she was in pain and brought her to a vet where it was determined that Annabelle has an abdominal hernia. The family took her in this winter and contacted us for help. Annabelle will be seeing one of our partner vets this week and will be scheduled for surgery. After all of these years, she does enjoy being outdoors but she does stay in her new family’s yard. Who knows — maybe she’ll get used to the warmth and love of a home. Please say a prayer for this older girl that everything goes well. We could never help all of these animals without the support of our donors, those who attend our fundraisers, and our business partners. – diana

Bubby – Found Outside of a Pizzaria; Cold, Dirty, Beaten, Emaciated, and with Heart Worm
3/11/19 – Bubba was hanging around a Buddy’s Pizza in Detroit. Although he was very emaciated and looking for food, it took one hour to get him into the rescuer’s car. He had many gashes on his body, was obviously starving, beaten up, and dirty. Nina, the rescuer, took him into her home and the following day, he mostly slept, ate, and drank water. We made arrangements for Bubba to be seen by one of our partner vets. He will be neutered, vaccinated, treated for heart worm and anything else he may need.
