7/9/24 – The mission of 4 Paws 1 Heart is “To reduce the number of homeless animals by funding medical treatment for stray, abused, and abandoned companion animals.” Many on our Board take our mission one step further by assisting in adoption of animals we assist. Our Board member and Vice President, Gina DeLuca Jenio, is a licensed veterinary technician at Moore Veterinary. Gina will assist with getting stray animals into that vet, rescuing and finding lost animals, and very often fostering. Cynthia Wojtowycz coordinates our Petfinder site which is used to help independent rescuers of animals we help to find an adopter; she also rescues hospice and elderly cats and fosters independently. Many know Denise Najera,A Second Chance Chance and foster mom to special needs cats whom 4 Paws 1 Heart has helped medically and also created and coordinates a cat food pantry to help the elderly and those who care for colonies. And, Dee Gudenau, who created and coordinates The Kitty Room at the Pet Supplies Plus store on Harper and 13 Mile, St. Clair Shores, which again is used to assist the independent rescuers we assist with medical needs. These are just a few examples of how our Board members take on projects of their own to make a difference beyond their role as 4 Paws 1 Heart Board members. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

RIP A.J. and Mayo
7/8/24 – It all started on July 2 when we were contacted about a kitten (A.J.) who had been rescued from a group of ‘kids’ smashing a litter of kittens to the ground. A.J. was the only survivor. The rescuer had A.J. for a little over a week before she turned the kitten over to Barb L., whom we’ve assisted in the past. A.J. was placed with two other, same aged kittens whom Barb had rescued just before. The kittens, Sparky and Mayo had were found wandering the streets without a mom. Unfortunately, A.J. became lethargic and before he could be seen at our partner veterinary clinic, he passed away. On July 5 Mayo and Sparky became less active and were not eating; they were authorized to be seen at Orion Animal Hospital. This morning I was advised that Mayo passed away. Prayers for Sparky who will be seen asap. – diana

Meet Hope
Junkyard and Mama Dog
7/3/24 – It was in late February when we were contacted about Junkyard and Mama Dog. They were found chained at a vacant home. Junkyard (light brown – suspected son) looked to have been attacked by another animal and had a neck wound; Mama Dog appeared to be pregnant. They were both seen at Five Mile Animal Hospital where Junkyard was treated for his wound, vaccinated, and scheduled for his neuter. Mama was found positive for heart worm and pregnant. I advised the rescuer that we would cover the heart worm treatment when appropriate but didn’t hear back from the rescuer until I followed up in June. I then learned that a rescue organization had taken in both dogs and the mom did have her babies and that the rescue would be following up with the heart worm treatment and spay when appropriate. – diana
