Diamond and Michigan Cat Rescue

4 Paws 1 Heart works with rescue organizations by helping them with medical bills. When we read about Diamond, we knew we had to help. Here is her story from the Michigan Cat Rescue: ~ diana

“Diamond had a mass on her abdomen and was very sad at the shelter; nobody would adopt her and her time was up.
She was a stray, trying to survive on the streets. She suffered from a horrible flea infestation that’s why most of her hair was missing. By the way, she is already declawed…she was living out on the streets this way…how sad is that?

Fortunately, the mass was not a tumor but a hernia which was repaired and now she is healing and will be looking for her forever home.”

Fritz is Looking for His Forever Home

JULY 18, 2013 ~ If any of our friends and family find themselves with a few extra dollars, please consider donating to 4 Paws 1 Heart. It’s important to support your local organizations because they don’t have the money for expensive commercials and mailings. And, when you donate to small local organizations, your money is more likely to go directly to the cause. With 4 Paws 1 Heart, every dollar donated (with the exception of one person’s cell phone) goes directly to funding medical treatment. All other expenses are donated by some of the Board members. You can donate using paypal on our facebook page or our website or by mailing a check to 4 Paws 1 Heart, P. O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Thank You!!!
This is Fritz who is still in need of his forever home. He’s the little guy who needed surgery to remove dozens of rubber bands and because of 4 Paws 1 Heart, he is alive today because of our supporters!. ~ diana

Breezy Update

BREEZY UPDATE: This little guy has been through a lot but he has fought through it all. Now look at him — cuddled up with his new foster family. Paws crossed that they decide to give him a furever home. On another note, Breezy will be tested again soon for feline leukemia. We’ll keep everyone informed. ~ diana

Meet Tiger Jay

MEET TIGER JAY – 4 Paws 1 Heart received the following plea for assistance: ~ diana

7/10/13 “Tonight I found a kitten abandoned on a dirt road far from any houses. He’s probably 5-6 weeks old, he is missing an eye. I can’t have anymore animals at my house but this kitten is the sweetest little guy I’ve ever snuggled! Do you have any advice on how to or where to find him a good home. I know he’s going to need some medical care most likely because of his eye.” ~ Samantha

Although we rarely work outside the four-county area, we couldn’t help but help Samantha and this little guy. We made arrangements for Samantha to take Tiger Jay to her vet and here is Samantha’s report:

7/17/13 “I took the kitten to the vet today he got all of his vaccines and some antibiotics for the eye. The vet said the kitten was born with an eye and he likely got hurt or someone hurt him because there is some eye parts still way back in there. He said surgery is not likely but he needed some antibiotics to fight the infection that’s in there, likely from being in the wild. They aged him at about 5 weeks. He is full of worms so we de-wormed him as well. They called the eye problem phthisis bulbi. I really appreciate your help and so does tiger !!!” ~ Samantha

Tiger Jay will be re-examined by the vet in about 30 days and if he needs more help, we’ll be there for him. The other good news is that the wonderful manager at Surrey Vet has offered to help Samantha in getting a rescue to take over Tiger Jay’s placement if needed. Another baby saved from pain and cruelty. ~ diana

Breezy needs a loving home

7/2/13 Breezy Needs a Loving Home: Our little Breezy has gone through so much. He was found on the streets (just days old) with his brother, Sabs. Then he lost his brother shortly afterward. Breezy did great for a couple of weeks afterward and then, all of a sudden, he took a turn for the worse and we thought we were going to lose him. But, this little fighter kept going and was actually thriving. Then, Gina had him tested and, to our dismay, he tested positive for Feline Leukemia. Feline Leukemia is a contagious virus and to be safe, Breezy should be in a home by himself or with other cats with feline leukemia. Breezy cannot be vaccinated but because he is less than 8 weeks old, there is a small possibility that the test might be false. He will be tested again in a few weeks. Please share this little guy in hopes that we can find him a loving, caring home. It’s the very least we can do for this sweet, sweet fighter. ~ diana

Cats & Kittens Saved in House Fire

“On June 22, 2013 a fire occurred in a mobile home located in a Chesterfield Township mobile home park. The destroyed home belonged to a woman who was housing seven adult cats and 9 kittens. When the firefighters arrived they found two dead female cats lying on top of their kittens, obviously trying to protect them from the fire. The kittens were all alive but in dire condition. Another adult cat perished in this fire as well. The four adult cats who survived, as well as the nine kittens, were taken to Advanced Animal Emergency Hospital in Clinton Township where they were all treated for smoke inhalation. They were all kept on oxygen overnight and into the next day. Amanda, the hospital manager reached out to Gina of 4 Paws 1 Heart for help in contacting rescues who might be able to take in the animals. Michelle, from A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue, immediately stepped up and went to the hospital. Another call for help was immediately put out to the rescue community. A total of thirteen cats needed to be placed; nine of them kittens who required bottle feeding. Four of the kittens were about 2 weeks old, and the other five kittens were days old and in critical condition. Two of the days-old kittens also had burns and needed to be transported to the Oakland Veterinary Referral Service hospital for more specialized care.
Five rescue organizations came together that day to provide homes and care for theses cats. The rescues are: A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue, Futures for Felines, Feline Friends, Paws For A Cause Feral Cat Rescue, and New Beginnings Animal Rescue. Advanced Animal Emergency Hospital generously donated their services and an “Animal Angel” paid the hospital bill for the two kittens who are now doing well and are with a rescue. All of the animals were surrendered by the owner.

Moe’s Happy Tail Story

It’s letters like these and the happy stories that keep us going. Thank You, Colleen and Joe. ~ diana

Hello, Gina –

We just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for helping us. Back on January 21, we met you at Harper Woods Vet after hours emergency care. We brought in Moe (a kitty that had been abandoned by our neighbor.) We’d been giving him shelter & food on our porch, but as temps were dropping near zero, we felt the need to find Moe some shelter. We’d called around to several places (shelters, rescues, pet stores, etc) looking for somewhere who could take him, so he wouldn’t be out in the cold. Finally, I called the emergency care clinic & spoke to you. You informed me of the work that you do with 4 Paws 1 Heart. As we were unable to find anywhere else to take him, we decided to bring him into our home. Since we already have 2 cats, we wanted to get him checked out & make sure he was okay before bringing him inside. You checked him out, we took him home, and continued to try to find him a furever home. Well, we did…he’s staying with us! Our other 2 kitties are getting used to him, especially now that his trial period is over & he’s no longer sequestered to his “room.” He’s really just the sweetest kitty!

Thank you again, for all that you do!

Sincerely,
Colleen & Joe
(& Moe!)
