Ali – Update

7/6/16/ – Update on our ALI!!!
He is doing absolutely wonderful and getting stronger every day. The wound from the reclining chair is almost completely healed. The 2 toes that he lost as a result (on his back right paw) are healing perfectly. I am beyond happy to report how well he is and what a little miracle he is! This little puppy is going to be a wonderful addition to someone’s family. He will be 5 weeks old this coming Sunday. I am taking applications at this time and will be reviewing potential owners. Please email me for more information if you are seriously interested. [email protected]

4 Paws 1 Heart is Named “Chevy Detroit Champion”

7/2/16 – 4 Paws 1 Heart is very proud to have been selected as a Chevy Detroit Champion http://chevydetroit.com/4-paws-1-heart/

Please take note of my beautiful Chevy Camaro, and the personalized pillow gifted to me by our friend, Angie Burns, who is a distributor for Thirty One Gifts. What a great way of memorializing an event or a person. AND, our Cookie, who is still looking for a forever family.

Daisy Mae (aka Baby) – Dying on I-94, St. Clair Shores, with Cars Veering Around Her

7/1/16 – WHAT WOULD YOU DO?? It was about 7:00 Monday evening when a man, driving on I-94 in St. Clair Shores, saw cars swerving around an object in the road. The object turned out to be a very sick, 4-month old animal. The man immediately pulled over and with the help of another driver, stopped all traffic and was able to get the dying dog into his car. He then contacted his brother who then met up with him and took the dog to a local emergency hospital. The dog was very sick and was immediately put on fluids which helped her get through the night. Because the dog was found in St. Clair Shores, which contracts all animal control services with the County, the following morning the Macomb County Animal Control was contacted. Any other county animal control would have probably instructed the hospital to humanely euthanize the dog because she was so ill but instead they immediately picked up the dog and brought her to Advanced Animal Emergency which is the hospital they work closely with. And, then, the Chief contacted us.

I was told that a very sick and very sweet dog had been brought to the emergency hospital and was asked if we could pay to save her. I spoke with the doctor who explained that Daisy Mae was indeed very ill and was suspected to have Parvo although there weren’t the typical outward symptoms. The doctor then laid out a 48-hour plan to treat Daisy Mae in hopes of saving her. It was then that we committed to do what we could to save this sweet girl who somehow wound up dying in the middle of I-94.

By the next day, Daisy Mae was in full blown Parvo and although everyone was praying, we still weren’t sure if Daisy Mae would pull through. The staff couldn’t thank us enough for helping them in their efforts to save this sweet baby. And, finally, it happened. I got the call saying that Daisy Mae had turned the corner and if everything continued to go well, Daisy Mae could be released today, July 1. But, where would she be released to?? The shelter?? She was still on a ‘stray hold’. Because of Daisy Mae’s compromised health, no one wanted to risk her going to the shelter but we knew her spirit would be improved if she could get out of the hospital.

GOOD NEWS! While all of this was going on, our hero’s brother had actually contacted Macomb County Animal Control because he wanted to adopt Daisy Mae. I immediately gave him a call. He told me about his house, his double lot which is all fenced in, and his retired dad who lives with him. I just knew he was going to be a great dad to Daisy Mae. With the help of Chief Randazzo, Ron B. will be completing the appropriate paperwork, and will be allowed to foster Daisy Mae until the ‘stray hold’ is up. At that time, we will have completed the adoption application process and Daisy Mae will, hopefully, have her forever loving home with a full-time grandpa and lots of room to run around.

Paws crossed that Daisy Mae will be released today to her potential new dad. I will keep everyone updated. On this holiday week-end when we celebrate our independence and remember all of those heroes who fought to make this possible, I couldn’t think of a better story of two heroes who cared enough to get involved and save a life. ~ diana

Axel – Starved and Abandoned — Update – RIP Sweet Boy

6/30/16 – Axel Update: Axel is looking a little livelier today. Your prayers have helped!!! We are hoping to get this baby into a loving temporary home while a cruelty case may be pursued. There are many animal lovers in the Roseville Police Department who are very anxious to help her heal emotionally and physically. We will absolutely keep everyone updated. Please remember that it’s only with your donations and support can we continue to save the lives in these critical cases. The options are: (1) tell the abuser/owner he has to take the animal to the vet but they rarely have the money or the credit to do so, consequently, the animal will die; (2) surrender the animal to the City but the municipalities don’t have the funds to cover these types of medical expenses; consequently the animal will die; OR (3) get assistance from a rescue or a group like 4 Paws 1 Heart. Thank you for all of your prayers. Donations can be made through paypal by using the ‘donate’ button on this page, through paypal on our website4paws1heart.org; or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. ~ diana

7/5/16I am so very sorry to report that Axel’s suffering ended this morning. He did appear to be getting better but when Animal Control OfficerJoe, visited him yesterday he learned that Axel had no energy and had blood in his stool. It turns out he had numerous tears in his intestines. He was put on antibiotics but everything was just too much for his ravaged body. May you rest in peace sweet boy. You were loved by many in the end. – Diana

Chewie – Adopted Out with Parvo by a Backyard Chewie

6/30/16 – Prayers and Positive Energy Needed!! Please share and BEWARE – This little 3 lb. baby was adopted to a loving family on June 23. His name is Chewie. The family had just lost their family dog of 12 years and were hoping to fill their hearts with another dog they could love. Unfortunately, they answered an ad on Hoobly. The puppy was advertised as an 8 week old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. The first couple of days the puppy was playful and seemed healthy but just a couple of days later he became lethargic and not eating. They immediately took him to the hospital and he tested positive for parvo. Anyone who has had to treat a dog for a serious illnesses such as parvo, heart worm, intestinal blockages, know that these costs can be exorbitant, especially for a young family. When the family contacted the ‘lowlife’ prior owner/obvious breeder, she claimed that she no longer had their $175 and that the dogs actually belonged to her brother who she couldn’t get in touch with. The family’s attempt to get help from the people responsible for this poor baby’s illness fell on deaf, charlatan, ears. The family contacted us in desperation. Because this baby had so recently come into this family, we agreed to help with some of the medical bills. At this time Chewie is still in the hospital (he went in June 27); he hasn’t gotten better but he hasn’t gotten worse — so there is still hope. Gina said that at this size, this disease can be very difficult to fight. Please pray for Chewie and his family and PLEASE do not buy pets from backyard breeders (actually I’m not in favor of any breeders but that is just my personal opinion). In this case, other puppies were in the litter and more than likely they have died or are in hospitals. This is why animals are vaccinated and when older must have flea/mosquito preventatives. Always do your research and adopt your new family member from a legitimate rescue or shelter. ~ diana

Nelson, Sargent, and Clooney – Rescued with 99 Other Dogs

6/30/16 – You may have read the news story about the 99 dogs recovered from a home in Cottervile, MI. One of the rescues who was called in to assist, Michigan Animal Crew (MAC), has asked us for medical assistance. Because of the success in our Father’s Day Challenge, we were able to help three of the dogs who were in very serious condition — Nelson, Sargent, and Clooney. Here is the story as reported to us by MAC. ~ diana

“Here is the story as it unfolded June 24, 2016.

The St. Clair County Animal control had 22 of the Cotterville hoarding dogs. They got the dogs on June 13, 2016. The alleged owners of the 99 dogs were charged with 2-4 year felonies. There are plenty of stories in the Times Herald in Port Huron.

13 of the dogs were in advanced stages of parvo and one had died before the vet identified it and said “put these 13 down”. These 13 were vomiting and had bloody diarrhea and were very lethargic. The vet put them down by 11 am on June 24, 2016. However, there were 7 other dogs that were housed with these dogs. They were tested by St. Clair County Animal Control and they tested positive for parvo but THEY WERE ASYMPTOMATIC FOR PARVO. We were contacted as the shelter is small and they had no more parvo tests to test the balance of the dogs in the shelter. The dogs could be euthanized because they had no way to test them. We contacted several vets and purchased Parvo test kits and got them to the St. Clair Animal Control. All dogs were tested. Everyone else was negative — thank God.

The 7 Parvo positive dogs were transported by the St. Clair Animal Control to Wilson Veterinary at our request. Wilson took the dogs into the parvo quarantine intensive care unit and retested the dogs. However, each dog had a bad upper respiratory infection and each was put on Clavamox.

Several of the dogs had coxcidia, one had a major eye problem and one had what may have been a broken nose and facial problems which needed to be addressed. All of these problems were treated and all dogs are on several medications.

Many of these dogs are very scared and timid and do not receive human contact very well but each day gets better. Each is being worked with in a private home..

Each dog stunk so bad and their fur was stained with urine; their white coats were yellow. The wonderful fosters have been bathing them several times and cleaning their ears, eyes and butts. They are getting better socially but many will take time.”

Harley – Wandering the Streets and Passed Around

6/29/16 – Meet Harley. She just showed up at someone’s home, looking to have been abandoned/lost for a while. The homeowner was going to take her to the shelter where it was almost certain she would be euthanized. A neighbor decided to take Harley but, unfortunately, due to a drug issue, Harley was just left outside and never tended to and after about a week and a half, that neighbor was gone and Harley was left to fend for herself without food and water. Fortunately, another kind family realized what had happened and took Harley in. They brought her to a veterinary clinic to be checked for a microchip — there was none. She had on a collar (more like a belt) which had already started to embed itself into her neck. Her eyes were very swollen, and, overall, poor Harley just appeared to have been neglected/abused for a very long time. The family was already becoming very attached to Harley who was in obvious need of love. Although a little skiddish and unfamiliar with a home environment, she quickly took to the family. Harley was again taken to a veterinary clinic to have them check her eyes and get a heart worm test. Unfortunately, Harley was found to be slight positive for heart worm and have Entropia of the eyes. The caring family could not keep Harley and give her what was needed without help so they contacted us. We felt that poor abandoned and abused Harley deserved a second chance at life and now she will be treated for heart worm and her eye issue which may require a specialist.

There are so many animals who will never be adopted because an adopter may not be able to afford the medical treatment; as in the case of Harley and so many others we’ve helped. This is another case, where we would not have been able to make the commitment without the great success of the Father’s Day Challenge. Thank You for giving Harley and the many other abandoned and abused companion animals a second chance on love. ~ diana

Harley – Sick with Heart Worm and an Entropion Eye

6/29/16 – An Update on Harley from his new mom. Please say a prayer for her. ~ diana

Dear Diana,

I’m not sure if you have been updated on Harley’s visit so I wanted to take the time to fill you in. I feel like you are Harley’s Angel . She was just so happy when we left and while we where there. She is exhausted now from our super busy afternoon and napping and resting comfortably on her pillow snoring up a storm. We are going to be doing eye drops 2 to 3 times a day and waiting to hear the results of her slightly positive heart worm test that they sent to the lab to be confirmed . I’m praying by some miracle the next test shows negative since the vet said she looked at her blood and there where no worms. So all 3 girls went; me, Abigail, and Aurora and Harley and out of the three kids Harley (included as kid since she’s the baby), Harley was the best behaved, who would of thought . Thank you Again I don’t think I could thank you enough for giving her this second chance and the opportunity to stay with us to get healthy instead of a cage somewhere. She deserves to be in a super loving environment to help her become the healthy dog with a great future ahead of her. You Have the biggest heart and I hope someday that I’m able to do the same because what you have done for Harley in my eyes is a real HERO.

Thank you,
Amanda
