Miko – RIP – Rescued by a Board Member After His Mom Went Into Hospice

3/24/19 – RIP Miko – A very difficult week-end of saying good-byes. Our Board member, Cynthia, focuses on providing a home for those seniors left without a home. Miko was one of those. Miko was about 17-18 years old and two years ago his owner went into hospice and there was no one who could take him in to provide love and shelter. Somehow, Cynthia learned of his plight and took him in. Yesterday, Cynthia had to make the decision we all fear the most — to let him pass to the Rainbow Bridge. Thank You, Cynthia, for taking Miko in and giving him lots of love while he grieved for his mom. Now he is with his mom and they are both in heaven together. ~ diana

Mango – Looking for a Forever Home After Showing Up At a Kind Woman’s Home

3/21/19 – Mango started showing up at someone’s house. Obviously abandoned or an escapee. He is “super friendly” and just needed the typical vetting of neutering, vaccines, flea treatment, and testing. We were happy to do that for this very sweet kitty whose family could not be found. Anyone interested in adopting him should contact [email protected]
Thanks, Diana

Jack – Living in a Cat Community But Found With a Serious Infection

3/19/19 – Unfortunately, requests for help come in sooner than I can post them so please excuse me when I’m a little behind in posting our cases. This is Jack. He is one of 6 cats being cared for in a cat community. The caretaker noticed that he wasn’t eating as usual and she contacted us for help. Jack was seen by the vet and he was treated for an infection. Jack is now back in his community. ~ dianajack 3:19:19

MJ – She showed Up in a Cat Community with a Serious Upper Respiratory Infection

3/18/19 – Meet MJ. She showed up in a cat community cared for by one of our Board members, Dee Brown Gudenau and Andra Shipley. mj w:dee gud 3:18:19 mj w:dee g 3:18:19“Meet MJ. MJ is from our work feral colony and is staying with me for a round of antibiotics. 10 days since the URI was noticed, a period of MIA from MJ that scared us to death, and 5 claw holes in my hand when I tried to get her… Andra Nagaitis-Shipleycat whisper superwoman picked very skinny MJ up and put her in a crate and brought her to me, last night, to stay in our garage. By the grace of God, she allowed me to give her meds. 4 Paws 1 Heart already offered to cover her medical but why stress her out if she is cooperating….MJ is doing better already in just 24 hours with meds!

It would be super awesome if she could have a home of her own….she loves to be petted now!!! She will need a little work but it wouldn’t take much….just some love. Please contact me if you are interested in MJ or if a Rescue would be….she deserves a home of her very own. [email protected]

Holly – Found Lying on the Side of a Freeway After Being Hit by a Car

3/18/19 – Holly was found lying on the side of a freeway. She had been hit by a car. She had an open head wound and was bleeding from her nose. The good Samaritan who found her brought her immediately to a vet and then contacted Rebel Dogs of Detroit. Holly’s wounds were treated but it was determined that she was unable to to use her hind legs. She had a dislocated vertebrae pressing on her spine; a neurologist determined that surgery was not possible. Hearing this, 4 Paws 1 Heart offered to have Holly seen by Dr. Tari Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine. Holly has had two therapy treatments and two laser treatments and is scheduled for more. We will be talking with Dr. Kern to learn more about Holly’s prognosis. The rescue tells us that Holly is a true ‘love bug’ and she is definitely doing better since her treatments. Anyone interested in giving her a forever home should contact rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt

Please remember that without your financial support we could never take on these cases. Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. ~ diana

Slippers – A Domesticated Cat with an Upper Respiratory Infection Found in a Cat Community

3/15/19 – Slippers showed up in a cat community cared for by Greg. Unlike the other cats in the community, Slippers walked right up to Greg, obviously wanting some petting. Greg took him in and asked us for help. It turns out that Slippers is 3-4 years old and is neutered. We took care of his vaccinations, testing, and treatment for an upper respiratory infection. Greg recently contacted me and reported that Slippers is doing well. The infection is clearing up and he has his own room for now. If anyone is interested in Slippers, please contact Greg at: [email protected] – diana

Rosie Roo – Diagnosed With Dogzeimers

3/14/19 – Having gone through the experience of Sundowner’s syndrome with both Tony’s mom and my mom, my heart breaks for what Rosie Roo is going through. In my mom’s case, she didn’t recognize my dad and would see him as a stranger or sometimes her mother. Every night she would call in fear because she was totally disoriented and wanted me to go to her house. By the next morning things would be better but then it would start again at night. Unfortunately this syndrome eventually leads to full-blown dementia. Our Rosie, although, a senior dog, is going through similar issues of disorientation, restlessness, and fear. Please say a little prayer for her and the family because there are no magic pills. And unlike the case with humans, the most difficult decision we have to make for our pets, will have to be made for Rosie. Thank you to all of our friends who have helped us support Rosie since the day she was rescued. Her life wasn’t easy but she has been much loved. – dianarosie roo 3:14:19 dementiaFrom a Second Chance For Chance:  Hey Team, its me….your gurl Roo!!! A lot of you have been asking today how I slept last night. We’re sorry we didnt get back to you earlier but mom had an early appt with Grandma at the drs for Grandma’s 1st after surgery check up! And then when mom came home we all had a nice nap 😴. Great news for Grandma, shes doing awesome!!!!
Soooo, We didnt get too much sleep last night but we did get maybe 2hrs, we were happy for that! Doggy Dementia is a real thing and it’s scary. Waking up disoriented and scared of course I’m going to bark for mom even if shes 2ft away. Along with the symptoms listed here, you have to remember I am about 17yrs old and my sight & hearing are also pretty bad and my arthritis is hurting more & more where I have to be carried up & down the stairs a lot at night now. Mom would never ever make me sleep downstairs by myself and our bedroom is upstairs. We’ve been trying different meds to help with all these problems, but so far nothing helps too much. Mom will be seeing Dr. Z tomorrow when she makes the trip with Auntie Debra to take Auntie Debras Louie for his dental and our Trixie for her check up. Mom & Dr. Z will discuss what other meds might be a good option for me to help at night. One thing we all know is the most important thing to mom & 4 Paws 1 Heart is MY happiness, MY comfort and MY quality of life. With those things in mind, I know mom will always do what’s best for me.
Well, I do believe I feel a nap coming on!
Love yous, Love Roo
