A Fragile Heart: Baby Girl’s Fight for a Future

1/28/26 Update: 1/28/26: Baby Girl Needs a Cardiologist. She was found last week at a gas station in Detroit, alone in the freezing cold. No one has come forward to claim her. The good Samaritan who found her noticed abnormal breathing and reached out for help.

Centerline Veterinary Hospital was able to see her Monday morning. Diagnostics confirmed Baby Girl has an enlarged heart. Thankfully, she tested negative for heartworm disease.

She has been started on Lasix to help manage her symptoms while she awaits a cardiology appointment for an echocardiogram. This test is needed to better understand her condition and determine the best treatment plan.
Donations have been very slow, but we would like to help Baby Girl get the care she needs. A cardiology consult and echocardiogram typically cost $600–$900. A formal estimate is being requested.

If you are able to help support Baby Girl’s care, donations can be made using the link below. Every contribution makes a difference. Thank you for caring and for helping animals like Baby Girl.

1/26/26: It was a VERY busy weekend that continued into this morning with animal emergency situations back to back. This dog named “Baby Girl” was found in the bitter cold with labored breathing.

She needs veterinary care right away. We are working on getting her in. Basic diagnostics alone are almost $600 at the nearest vet hospital.
The rescuer and I are in communication and I will update once I know more. Prayers needed.

Gizmo and Baby Girl

3/10/25 – On November 5, 2024 I posted about Gizmo and Baby Girl. Both had stolen the rescuer’s heart when she was feeding some feral cats.

When Gizmo was first authorized to be seen by a vet, it was determined that he had an eye infection and also needed to see an eye specialist. Baby Girl had not been ready just yet to be seen by a vet. An appointment was made for Gizmo to be seen by one of the doctors at Orion Animal Hospital where Dr. Blasses and Dr. Zalac are our ‘go to’ doctors when it comes to eyes.

Dr. Blasses determined that Gizmo needed entropion surgery (the condition whereby the eyelashes grow into the eyeball and if left, will result in blindness — not to mention the pain the animal goes through. Gizmo had his surgery (see post surgery photo). Once he was healed both Gizmo and Baby Girl were vaccinated, tested, and neutered/spayed.

Another happy beginning for two sweet cats. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/

Gizmo and Baby Girl

9/28/24 – Gizmo (son) and Baby Girl (mom) were being fed by a kind woman who is on a fixed income and who started feeding them as strays when her husband passed away this past summer.

Baby Girl had actually had two kittens but one passed away and her remaining kitten has an upper respiratory infection. That is when the rescuer brought both into her home. We authorized Gizmo to be seen at one of our partner vets and he was treated.

Baby Girl will be tested for FIV/FeLV and both will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered when Gizmo has recovered from his infection. – diana https://4paws1heart.org/donations/
