6/19/16 – As the Father’s Day barbecues come to an end, Odin decides it’s time for a nap. I thought we’d end this Father’s Day celebration with an update on our little Odin. He was hit by a car and temporarily paralyzed. Because of you, we were able to pay for his medical needs and our angel, Gina, fostered him for one year. Finally, that perfect family came along. Here he is today, all tuckered out from a day of celebrating, playing and watching TV. A huge thanks to Odin’s family and all of our friends who help us make miracles happen. ~ diana

Ali – The Little Fighter Caught in a Recliner Keeps Fighting
6/19/16 – Happy Father’s Day to all of our wonderful dads of skin and fur children!! But, let us not forget all of the great moms and dads who sometimes have to play the role of mom and dad. On this last day of the Father’s Day Challenge where all donations will matched by a generous benefactor, I would like to again present Ali and his mom/dad/angel, Gina. Although Ali is healing as each day goes by, he still has a long road ahead which will include a visit or two to the Michigan State Veterinary Medical Center.
Ali, at less than one pound, was caught in a recliner. His two toes were cut off and a serious laceration to his skin was infected. We do not know why this little baby was in a position to have this happen to him but we do know there were other puppies in this litter. The owners were advised of their options, and when the medical staff returned to find out their decision, they found that little Ali had been ‘dumped’.
As Gina has kept us updated, we learned that this little guy is one serious fighter. He had already died once and was brought back to life. Now he appears to be thriving and ready to grow into a phenomenal boy like our girl, Sophia (aka Sommerset), who faced similar skin and infection issues at a very early age (see our website 4paws1heart.org).
Your donations during this challenge will help pay for Ali’s treatment at Michigan State which in the past has averaged $1,000 (that includes the generous matching donation of Michigan State). He will still need to have the remaining part of his two toes amputated. And, of course, this doesn’t include the medical care that has already gone into saving this sweet baby.
There are times in our lives when we have to make those hard decisions. An animal comes to us and we have to determine quality of life, prognosis, and cost. It is never easy. In Ali’s case, Gina saw something in his little closed eyes and knew he needed us to fight with him and that is what we did. A huge thank you, once again, to all of our friends who believe in us and continue to support us. Please take credit in saving the lives of so many who had no one else to be their voice! ~ diana
Rufus – His Mother Died and He Was on His Way to a Shelter
6/18/16 – Double Your Donation Today!! All donations made through June 19, 2017, will be matched in honor of all loving
fathers!! It’s only with your donations can we make these happy beginnings happen.
Meet Rufus. It all started when we received an e-mail in September 2015 from a concerned person whose co-worker had a family dilemma. His mother-in-law was ill and could no longer care for her 162 pound, very loving, Mastiff. He could not care for him and Rufus was on his way to a shelter. Oh, and by the way, Rufus was diagnosed with heart worm. Most heart worm treatments can run between $900 to $1,800 depending on the weight of the dog.
Once we were assured that the owner would legally surrender Rufus and we were sure that Rufus would have a permanent loving home, we agreed to pay for Rufus’ heart worm treatment as well as any other medical needs. We are happy to share a recent message we received from his rescuer: ~ diana
“We are pleased to announce Rufus is officially heart worm negative thanks to 4 Paws 1 Heart helping us in December with him when We rescued him to get his treatment. He also has a bit of a new name to go with his new healthy life. Please meet Sir Rufus James! ~ Melissa”
Tyson – Found on the Street with an Upper Respiratory Infection
6/17/16 – Another baby found all alone with a serious upper respiratory infection. This is Tyson. He is only about 2-3 weeks old and was, thankfully, rescued by some very kind people. They contacted us and we sent the rescuer and Tyson to the great doctors at Patterson Veterinary in Clinton Township. He has been treated for the infection and examined for a few other issues. He will be seen again in a week.
