Meet Annie.
This baby girl was found on the streets. She had flea allergies, blood from her vulva, and a broken elbow. The injury on the elbow was old and had healed abnormally. She couldn’t put weight on that leg and it bothered her when touched. We covered all medical care needed to get her checked out. Amputation was recommended because of the discomfort. She was fixed and she is ready for adoption applications. Please contact Brenda at Moore Veterinary Hospital for details on making her a new member of your home. Gina

Kate’s Kittens are All in Forever Homes
7/5/16 – Great News!! You might remember Kate who was rescued during TNR (trap/neuter/release). It took a while and we were all worried but eventually Kate gave birth to a litter of very healthy kittens. We are so happy that all of them are now in forever homes and Kate will never have to bear kittens again because she was spayed and released. ~ diana
Mister – RIP Sweet Boy – Your Injuries Were Greater Than We Could See
July 5, 2016: It was just a couple of weeks ago that we were contacted by Cathy to help get Mister into a vet to examine his leg. It appeared Mister had been hit by a car and his skin was so torn away, the bone was exposed. Cathy kept us up to date and Mister’s let was healing wonderfully. Unfortunately, there was obviously more injuries that we could not detect. May this beautiful guy RIP. Unlike many animals, Mister at least passed knowing he was much loved.

Daisy Mae (aka Baby) – Dying on I-94, St. Clair Shores, with Cars Veering Around Her
7/1/16 – WHAT WOULD YOU DO?? It was about 7:00 Monday evening when a man, driving on I-94 in St. Clair Shores, saw cars swerving around an object in the road. The object turned out to be a very sick, 4-month old animal. The man immediately pulled over and with the help of another driver, stopped all traffic and was able to get the dying dog into his car. He then contacted his brother who then met up with him and took the dog to a local emergency hospital. The dog was very sick and was immediately put on fluids which helped her get through the night. Because the dog was found in St. Clair Shores, which contracts all animal control services with the County, the following morning the Macomb County Animal Control was contacted. Any other county animal control would have probably instructed the hospital to humanely euthanize the dog because she was so ill but instead they immediately picked up the dog and brought her to Advanced Animal Emergency which is the hospital they work closely with. And, then, the Chief contacted us.
I was told that a very sick and very sweet dog had been brought to the emergency hospital and was asked if we could pay to save her. I spoke with the doctor who explained that Daisy Mae was indeed very ill and was suspected to have Parvo although there weren’t the typical outward symptoms. The doctor then laid out a 48-hour plan to treat Daisy Mae in hopes of saving her. It was then that we committed to do what we could to save this sweet girl who somehow wound up dying in the middle of I-94.
By the next day, Daisy Mae was in full blown Parvo and although everyone was praying, we still weren’t sure if Daisy Mae would pull through. The staff couldn’t thank us enough for helping them in their efforts to save this sweet baby. And, finally, it happened. I got the call saying that Daisy Mae had turned the corner and if everything continued to go well, Daisy Mae could be released today, July 1. But, where would she be released to?? The shelter?? She was still on a ‘stray hold’. Because of Daisy Mae’s compromised health, no one wanted to risk her going to the shelter but we knew her spirit would be improved if she could get out of the hospital.
GOOD NEWS! While all of this was going on, our hero’s brother had actually contacted Macomb County Animal Control because he wanted to adopt Daisy Mae. I immediately gave him a call. He told me about his house, his double lot which is all fenced in, and his retired dad who lives with him. I just knew he was going to be a great dad to Daisy Mae. With the help of Chief Randazzo, Ron B. will be completing the appropriate paperwork, and will be allowed to foster Daisy Mae until the ‘stray hold’ is up. At that time, we will have completed the adoption application process and Daisy Mae will, hopefully, have her forever loving home with a full-time grandpa and lots of room to run around.
Paws crossed that Daisy Mae will be released today to her potential new dad. I will keep everyone updated. On this holiday week-end when we celebrate our independence and remember all of those heroes who fought to make this possible, I couldn’t think of a better story of two heroes who cared enough to get involved and save a life. ~ diana
Sassy – Found on the Street with a Screw in her Stomach
7/1/16 – This has been quite the week!! We have taken on and unbelievable number of serious cases this week and although the bills haven’t all come in, we have definitely gone through all of the money raised during the Father’s Day Challenge. This is Sassy, We had originally helped Sassy with her initial vetting and medical care; she was doing great in her foster home. But then the call came in — Sassy was lethargic and hasn’t been eating. After visiting one emergency hospital where it was learned that Sassy had somehow eaten a screw, she was taken to our friends at Wilson Veterinary who performed immediate surgery. She is now doing great and went home yesterday. A huge thanks to her rescuer, Megan, and her foster mom for running all over town for hours to get her help. Anyone interested in adopting this sweetie, should contact Friends of Scooby Rescue. Without the donations, we would never have been able to provide the emergency treatment for all of these animals. Anyone in
Just a reminder that whether you have a baby, pets, or both, it is always good to ‘baby proof’ your home. And, even when you think you’ve checked everything, check again! These kids can get into anything and everything. Now we just have to get sweet Sassy her forever home.
Axel – Starved and Abandoned — Update – RIP Sweet Boy
6/30/16 – Axel Update: Axel is looking a little livelier today. Your prayers have helped!!! We are hoping to get this baby into a loving temporary home while a cruelty case may be pursued. There are many animal lovers in the Roseville Police Department who are very anxious to help her heal emotionally and physically. We will absolutely keep everyone updated. Please remember that it’s only with your donations and support can we continue to save the lives in these critical cases. The options are: (1) tell the abuser/owner he has to take the animal to the vet but they rarely have the money or the credit to do so, consequently, the animal will die; (2) surrender the animal to the City but the municipalities don’t have the funds to cover these types of medical expenses; consequently the animal will die; OR (3) get assistance from a rescue or a group like 4 Paws 1 Heart. Thank you for all of your prayers. Donations can be made through paypal by using the ‘donate’ button on this page, through paypal on our website4paws1heart.org; or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. ~ diana
7/5/16I am so very sorry to report that Axel’s suffering ended this morning. He did appear to be getting better but when Animal Control OfficerJoe, visited him yesterday he learned that Axel had no energy and had blood in his stool. It turns out he had numerous tears in his intestines. He was put on antibiotics but everything was just too much for his ravaged body. May you rest in peace sweet boy. You were loved by many in the end. – Diana
Chewie – Adopted Out with Parvo by a Backyard Chewie
6/30/16 – Prayers and Positive Energy Needed!! Please share and BEWARE – This little 3 lb. baby was adopted to a loving family on June 23. His name is Chewie. The family had just lost their family dog of 12 years and were hoping to fill their hearts with another dog they could love. Unfortunately, they answered an ad on Hoobly. The puppy was advertised as an 8 week old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. The first couple of days the puppy was playful and seemed healthy but just a couple of days later he became lethargic and not eating. They immediately took him to the hospital and he tested positive for parvo. Anyone who has had to treat a dog for a serious illnesses such as parvo, heart worm, intestinal blockages, know that these costs can be exorbitant, especially for a young family. When the family contacted the ‘lowlife’ prior owner/obvious breeder, she claimed that she no longer had their $175 and that the dogs actually belonged to her brother who she couldn’t get in touch with. The family’s attempt to get help from the people responsible for this poor baby’s illness fell on deaf, charlatan, ears. The family contacted us in desperation. Because this baby had so recently come into this family, we agreed to help with some of the medical bills. At this time Chewie is still in the hospital (he went in June 27); he hasn’t gotten better but he hasn’t gotten worse — so there is still hope. Gina said that at this size, this disease can be very difficult to fight. Please pray for Chewie and his family and PLEASE do not buy pets from backyard breeders (actually I’m not in favor of any breeders but that is just my personal opinion). In this case, other puppies were in the litter and more than likely they have died or are in hospitals. This is why animals are vaccinated and when older must have flea/mosquito preventatives. Always do your research and adopt your new family member from a legitimate rescue or shelter. ~ diana
