3/24/18 – The cruelty of the human specie never ceases to sicken and amaze me. This is Breo. About one year ago she was intercepted by protestors at Michigan Anti Cruelty. At that time, 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for her to be spayed, vaccinated, and tested. Breo was then adopted out to a relative of the rescuer. Now, after one year in the home, Breo’s ‘family’ contacted the rescuer and said they would be ‘dumping’ her at the Humane Society because she was urinating outside the litter box. The rescuer took Breo back and noticed blood in her urine. We were again contacted for help. It turns out that Breo was suffering from a urinary tract infection. The poor little girl must have been suffering. Breo has been treated and will be rechecked in a couple of weeks. But, she is now looking for, what we hope, will be her forever, loving home. She is approximately 7-8 months old and is very friendly, even with visitors. Breo is an active, playful kitten but also enjoys relaxing on the couch with her foster family, which includes an active dog. It appears Breo may not be a big fan of other cats. She is spayed, FeLV/FIV negative, vaccinated, and microchipped. If you are interested in this sweetie, contact Lori at: [email protected] – diana

Fred – He Showed Up Limping
3/23/18 – Meet Fred. He was lucky enough to find his way to an animal lover who not only has inside cats and dogs but provides shelter to outside kitties through her barn. The rescuer started feeding Fred and one day he showed up limping. We were contacted for help and Fred was taken to one of our partner veterinary hospitals. A small cut was found on Fred’s paw and while there, it was the purrfect time to also have him tested, neutered, and vaccinated. His rescuer will be trying to find Fred a forever home because he’s learning to love belly rubs.
Parker – People Just Walked by Him as He Laid Dying
3/22/18 – Prayers and Positive Thoughts needed for this very sweet cat who was found on the street — emaciated, a severe upper respiratory infection, and a critical wound on his leg. The rescuer from Their Last Resort Animal Rescue, advised that people were just walking by this little guy; no one was willing to help. Parker has been in the hospital since Sunday, March 18. Because of his poor medical condition, the hospital staff has only been able to keep the wound clean, provide antibiotics, and clean him multiple times a day because of the significant discharge resulting from the upper respiratory infection. Our latest report on his condition is:
“Parker is still not feeling well but is wanting love and affection today. ❤️ He is on antibiotics for the upper respiratory infection, eye drops and another antibiotic for the horrible infection on/in his leg. His temperature was a little high today more than likely from the infected leg.
So after speaking with the wound care specialist we found out that Parker is going to lose his leg. He will need an amputation. That wound is not only black and dying but there isn’t enough skin to close the wound. He will have to wait until he is stable enough for the surgery. 🙏
He is eating and drinking well.
He really was in good spirits today so we are hopeful about a full recovery and ask for prayers for Parker. – Larry”
I am thankful that we could play a role in Parker’s recovery and I’m thankful for the attention being given by the Rescue to Parker and he struggles to survive. ~ diana

Ellie – Possibly Hit by a Car; Will Require a Leg Amputation
3/21/18 – Meet Eileen — Ellie for short.
She is a very sweet and smart girl. Ellie is about 6 months old and 40 lbs, She may have been hit by a car because she has a broken knee cap plus a fracture on her Tibia. Her leg will need to be amputated. She was found on the streets and turned over to 4 Paws 1 Heart after her stray hold was up. Efforts were made by the shelter to locate her owner; she seems to have been well trained. Because of her medical condition. she would have been euthanized in the shelter.
Ellie went to a foster home last week; but, we are looking for a rescue to help with permanent placement. Our friend will continue to foster for the rescue if needed. Contact me at [email protected] if you can help with placement once she recovers from her surgery. ~ gina
Pablo – His Owner Was Doing Nothing as He Laid Dying from Parvo Virus
3/20/18 – Meet Pablo. He was rescued from a horrible situation, and we were able to provide the care he needed to give him a second chance. Pablo was dying from Parvo Virus, but his previous owner did not take him into the hospital for treatment. Instead Pablo was forced to fade away slowly, while lying in his own bloody diarrhea. Fortunately, a visitor to the home saw this horrific situation and took action but he couldn’t afford what was going to be needed.
It took almost one week of 24 hour aggressive supportive care in the hospital on IV fluids with several medications in order for Pablo to pull through. Pablo is now thriving in his new environment with a loving dad, but he would have died without treatment and he is not even one year old.
Unfortunately, the previous owner will probably continue to allow puppies to be born into that environment, and they will certainly be exposed to the virus and be left to die as Pablo was.
Parvovirus is deadly. The treatment for Pablo cost our organization over $1000. If your pet acquires the Parvovirus, the average treatment starts at about $500 and can easily go up to $3000. To prevent this deadly virus, all it costs for a vaccine is approximately $25 a month for 4 months.
During the Spring and Summer veterinary professionals will see tons of these cases and countless innocent puppies will die. 4 paws 1 heart will need your help in order to give some of these animals a second chance and we also need your help to please educate as much as you can! If you have any questions about Parvovirus please don’t hesitate to ask. Education is key! ~ Gina
P.S. What Gina didn’t say is that she provided extra care and love during the time Pablo was in the hospital. At about the same time of Pablo’s case, we were involved in another parvo case which was being handled elsewhere at another hospital; that puppy died. There was nothing wrong with the care that puppy was given but I absolutely believe that love and personal care can make a huge difference. Gina’s very own Angel is the perfect example. ~ diana
Toofless Lioness – Rescued Needing All of Her Teeth Removed
3/19/18 – Last week we received the following message from our friends at Saved By Zade Animal Rescue:”
Hello 4 Paws 1 Heart! We have a homeless kitty that we took in recently to have her spayed. She also has stomatitis and the veterinarian has suggested that she have all of her teeth extracted; and the kitty is also undergoing treatment for what appears to b a chronic ear infection. Right now we have a few more homeless kitties going through various
surgeries as soon as we can raise any funds. Our February 2018 preliminary numbers for spay/neuters is at least 79 kitties fixed, vaccinated and several combo tested. Anything you can do to help would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Jodi Schrader – Saved by Zade”
We’ve helped Saved By Zade in the past with a very sad situation where kittens with severe upper respiratory infections were living near a river; some of whom didn’t survive. Toofless Lioness had her surgery last Tuesday and, after a couple of days in the hospital, she is doing well. I’m so thankful for all of our donors who make our work possible and the many rescuers who turn to us for help. ~ diana
