12/30/19 – In two days we will be entering a whole new decade and there is still time to make a end of the year donation which will be used to save the abandoned, stray, and abused like Buster.
On December 20, 2019 I received a frantic phone call from a kind man who had rescued a cat who had showed up at his door. The cat could hardly see out of his eyes. The man took Buster to have him neutered, vaccinated, and to see what was wrong with his eyes. It turned out the Buster had entropion in both eyes. Entropion refers to inversion of an eyelid margin resulting in hair (eyelashes) rubbing against the cornea. It will result in blindness and is very painful. The poor rescuer was beside himself because as a cat dad he knew he had to help poor Buster but didn’t have the money. When I told him we would pay for the surgery, he literally cried. Buster had his surgery last week Monday and the Riverside Animal Hospital was absolutely wonderful. They took photos for me and called after his surgery was complete. He is doing good and because of YOU we can give these animals who are suffering on the street a second chance at life. ~ diana

12/27/19 – Ocso, Sally, and Miura were all born to a feral mom. The mom was trapped, spayed, and released but her kittens were rescued with hopes of finding forever homes. We were contacted to back the kittens’ medical needs. The three went for their pre-spay/neuter appointment and received their basic vaccines; all were healthy and an appointment was made for their spay/neuters. On Monday, December 23, the surgeries were completed but, unfortunately, Miura had complications. He was treated as long as possible at the day practice but because the hospital was to be closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Miura had to be taken to our partner emergency hospital. Miura spent the night in the hospital with a high fever and a low red cell blood count but by the next day he was able to go home. As with humans, there are no guarantees with surgeries–things can happen. We are just thankful to have a great relationship with the emergency hospital doctors who always come through for us. ~ diana

12/24/19 – It is with a heavy heart and tears flowing that I must report that Mister was allowed to cross the rainbow bridge yesterday evening. Mister had surgery last week and his anal glands were removed (See earlier postings). He was kept over the weekend for observation and early yesterday morning it was determined that there were further complications – Mister could not move his bowels and the feces was blocked. Without giving more complicated details, the doctor advised that the colon or small intestines could be removed but there was no guarantee Mister’s quality of life would be good. Each option would result in other issues. After much discussion with the doctor and the rescuer and considering Mister’s age and what he has gone through already, it was decided to let him go. His rescuer and caretaker over the past 3 weeks wrote me the following:
“I spent a bit of time with him before he went . He went in my arms and with kisses all the way . It was peaceful. I hope you have peace of mind, diana, You made the right choice; he was tired, I saw it in his eyes.”
May God be with the rescuers. RIP Mister. You had many scars on your body and we don’t know the challenges you faced over the past 12+ years but you are now free to run, hiss, and play. – diana
