Bella – Had a Door Close on Her Leaving her Paralyzed

6/21/21 – This little angel is Bella. Bella is approximately 5 weeks old and had a door closed on her leaving her rear end paralyzed. Bella was extremely lucky to be rescued and is now being fostered by Rebecca L. and her amazing animal loving family. Rebecca contacted me on Friday and also happened to touch base with our Board member, Denise (also mom of the famous Chance), who also contacted me. Rebecca had taken Bella for x-rays and antibiotics, a steroid injection, and dewormer. The doctors were hopeful that Bella could be helped. Denise visited the family to teach Rebecca how to express Bella in that Bella cannot urinate or move her bowels on her own. Denise is setting up an appointment, under our authorization, with Dr. Kern at Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine for an assessment. In that Denise has a great deal of experience with paralyzed kittens, she will be coordinating this case with Rebecca. Please remember Bella in your prayers and remember that every donation you make, saves a life. – Diana

Knish – Rescued With a Broken Paw Requiring an Amputation

6/20/21 – As I’ve reported throughout the past 15 months, this has been a very tough time for the animals on the streets. Restrictions in medical care, lack of staff, and the many more animals being born and injured on the streets have been a challenge for all of us in the ‘animal rescue’ world. Knish is one such animal.
Knish was being cared for in a cat community and one day the caretaker noticed he was having difficulty with one of his paws. A person we’ve helped in the past was contacted and got Knish into a hospital where the vet advised that the paw had a break but believed it could be repaired although they couldn’t do it. She then contacted us. Through consultation with one of our faves – Dr. Zalac and after examination and x-rays, it was determined that amputation would be best. This meant that Knish would never go outside again. Paige found a foster for Knish which is where he is being socialized and is scheduled for surgery on June 29. Knish was vaccinated but will be neutered during the paw surgery. – diana

Jefferson – Found With a Dead Leg

6/18/21 – On Wednesday, June 16, Stevie, Biscuit, and Dahlia (aka Fire, Wind, and Taurus had their eye surgeries performed by Dr. Blasses of Patterson Veterinary Hospital. While their rescuer, Patricia, was waiting in the parking lot she learned of a kitten, whose eyes had not yet opened, found with his tiny leg hanging. She immediately contacted me and I advised to get the baby and see if Dr. Blasses could see the baby that same day. Even with all of the craziness that veterinary staffs have been going through this past year and a half, Dr. Blasses saw the baby before closing. Here is Patricia’s report from the visit:
“Good morning! So our little dude, Jefferson is a fighter! Thanks to Patterson’s and you he has a fighting chance. As I said in a phone message, his leg was so dead all they had to do was snip it off at the femur. They put two staples in his wound.
Our only guess is he was attacked by something and can’t for the life of me figure out how he survived. He has a huge appetite and successfully sucks his milk on his own with a syringe, so right now, this little dude has a fighting chance. Glad it didn’t come down to amputation as I fear euthanasia would have been recommended which I was prepared for.Thank you for giving him a chance! – Patricia”
It is only because of the support of our many friends that we can help the rescuers give these babies a second chance. – diana

Moenart – RIP – Loved and Safe For One Year Before Succumbing to Feline Leukemia

6/16/21 – RIP Moenart. He was rescued last summer by two women who do TNR on the east side of Detroit. He was was flea-ridden, had severe wounds on his neck, patches of hair missing, rotted teeth, and blood was seeping from his eye. But yet, he allowed the ladies to touch him. Melissa, who we’ve helped in the past, contacted us for help. Moenart was seen by our vets and was treated for infections, fleas, wounds, and was eventually neutered and vaccinated. Unfortunately, he was found to be FIV positive. And, although we were asked, we would not authorize him to be euthanized. Melissa and her friend vowed to keep him in a home and give him love so, over the past year, we took care of his medical needs. Then, this past Sunday, Melissa contacted me again asking for assistance with Moenart. He was lethargic, losing weight, and was having a hard time walking or even laying down. And, to me, the tell all, was that he was hiding. In my heart and prior experience with my own babies, this did not sound good and I authorized a visit to our vet who saw Moenart yesterday. The doctor found a huge tumor in his stomach and it looked like it was wrapped around the intestines. Moenart’s gums were pale and he was extremely lethargic and Melissa and the doctor agreed to let Moenart cross the Rainbow Bridge.
I’ve said this so many times in the last 10 years — May God bless the Rescuer. We don’t know the hardships Moenart faced in his short life but we do know he was very loved and safe for almost one year and did not leave this world suffering or tortured on the mean streets. – diana

Cowboy – Rescued With Severe Leg Wounds

6/15/21 – This very sweet little guy was found wandering the streets. He appeared to have something wrong with his front legs. The family who rescued him had a friend contact us for help. The family’s children named him Cowboy. Cowboy was taken to a partner vet where it was found that he had wounds on his legs which were infected. Those were treated and we absolutely authorized him to be neutered, tested, and vaccinated when appropriate. The family will be keeping this sweetie. – diana

Sabretooth – Needing a Tooth Extraction and Medical Treatment

6/14/21 – Sabretooth was trapped a couple of weeks ago and was treated for Giardia and was snap tested after the rescuer took care of his neuter. The original plan was to return him to the colony but he turned out to be very sweet so the rescuer, Heather, will be looking for a furever home for him. But first, he needs to have an upper K-9 extracted and be treated for gingivitis. His surgery is scheduled for this Thursday. He’s a young boy and if you are interested, please contact Heather at: [email protected] He is a very handsome boy. – diana

Groovy – No Longer Wanted Because of Her Medical Needs

6/10/21 – Groovy is an 11 month old Lab mix. She was no longer wanted by her owner because she “didn’t need or want the responsibility anymore”. So our friends at Misfit Angels rescued her.
She has double entropion, had never been to the vet nor was she welcome to come in the house after going to the bathroom. Groovy will have surgery on both eyes Friday June 11, as well as spay complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart. The rescue says that she is learning so much at her foster home and loves to be around her furry foster friends! Although a little confused because of her former upbringing, she is very sweet. Anyone interested in Groovy should contact Misfit Angels. Prayers for a successful surgery – diana
