1/22/17 – Meet Bud. On New Year’s Eve I received a panic message about this homeless boy who has been taken care of as part of a colony. The caretaker was worried when he showed up with a very “gooey” eye. She took Bud to the emergency and the doctor diagnosed a punctured eye, prescribed eye drops, and recommended he be seen by a specialist for a possible eye removal. Before we could get Bud to another doctor, I was again contacted because Bud’s eye had become very swollen. Again, he was given more drops. Bud finally made it to another doctor and after examination, the doctor felt that Bud’s eye would heal. Bud is inside now being spoiled while he, hopefully, recovers fully. We are committed to Bud and ask that you say a prayer for this little guy. ~ diana

Buddy – Found Wandering the Streets
1/20/17 – This handsome guy was found wandering the streets. We were contacted by a rescue friend who asked if we could help the nice couple who found him. Of course, we did and Buddy was taken to the veterinary to be scanned for a microchip, vaccinated and scheduled for neutering. Although very sweet and obviously welcoming human contact and love, no microchip could be found. Buddy has found his forever home with this loving couple known by our rescue friend and we are so happy we could help in their endeavor to give Buddy a second chance at life. ~ diana

Shih Tzu Five – My How They’ve Grown
1/18/17 – A Happy Update! Remember the Shih Tzu Five. The mom and babies were brought into the emergency where Gina worked. The mom was very sick and was the victim of breeders who had put her through three deliveries. When this one went wrong, they had no idea as to what to do. As is always the case, the survival of the babies was questionable. Gina and our friends, Amanda Morris and Carrie Krausmann, fostered all of these little creatures and with a lot of hard work, love, and careful scrutiny everyone was adopted. Here are a few of them today and what the gang looked like when they were first brought in.
Miss Mocha Latte – Saved Just Before Having a Litter
1/17/17 – Update on Miss Mocha Latte and Lil’ Munchkin. It was in September that Miss Mocha was rescued by a very kind person who knew of us through her mother. Within four days, Miss Mocha had two kittens in a difficult delivery. Mama Mocha and her Lil’ Munchkin were kept by her rescuer. We were happy to have been there for Mama Mocha, who had a cyst on her chin (not to mention being pregnant) and the kittens. Mama and Lil’ Munchkin have now been spayed and neutered and, again, we are grateful to play a role in the non-proliferation of kittens. ~ diana
Horace – Saved From Being Surrendered to a Shelter
1/16/17 – It won’t be long until we will be in full-blown kitten season but right now we seem to be in ‘heart-worm season’. From my experience, it seems many dogs are ‘dumped’ when the owner learns their dog has heart worm. I cannot condone ‘dumpiing’ any animal on the streets, forcing them to fend for themselves, but I do understand why an owner can’t afford heart worm treatment — it can be well over $1,200 depending on the size of the dog. Having said that, please educate any dog owners you know to always treat their animals with heart worm prevention. This is Horace.
Probably for the reason mentioned, Horace was being surrendered to Michigan Anti Cruelty. Many people think that because an entity claims to be a shelter, the animals will be safe. Unfortunately, this facility has a very high kill rate — especially for pit mix dogs and cats. Caring people who have been protesting the policies and procedures of the facility saved Horace before he would have been killed there and immediately brought him to a vet where it was found that he was heart worm positive. Our friends with Detroit Pit Crew Rescue paid for the pre-treatment, and 4 Paws 1 Heart is covering the heart worm treatment. Horace is very sweet, crate trained, leash trained, and everyone loves him. If you are interested in this handsome guy, please contact 313 K9&Kitty Rescue. Please say a prayer for Horace and all of the animals searching for safety and love. And, if you have a little extra money, please consider donating by using the link on this page. Thanks! ~ diana
Rosie Roo – Checks In After Her Doctor Appointment
1/16/17 – Is there anything more beautiful than a child or fur child sleeping peacefully, all cuddled up?? Rosie Roo, the 15 year old girl, found wandering the streets alone, severely matted and nails so long she could barely walk — and let us not forget with mammary tumors and an ulcer in her eye. Thank God for our friend, Denise, Chance’s mom, who contacted us asking if we could commit to our senior girl. We couldn’t turn our backs. We are all so appreciative for the donations and support we get from our friends which make these happy updates possible. ~ diana
“Home again, warm and snug! Soooo, my vet says my eye ulcer is 90% healed and looks soooo much better! 1 more week on my eye drops, only twice a day and Im good to go…no recheck! I was so brave!!! Thankyou 4 Paws 1 Heart for having my back…um …eye! Love, Rosie Roo⚘
Oh, and be careful out there…the roads are slippery!”
George – RIP You Passed Knowing Love
1/15/17 – Once again, our hearts were broken this weekend by the loss of this very sweet, semi-feral kitty, George. I received a call for help from the caretaker of a cat colony in Macomb County. She had been caring for George for over a year and Saturday he showed up dragging his body and hardly able to move. It was assumed that George had been hit by a car and he crawled his way back to the colony. What do you do???? Do you only agree to pay for humane euthanasia (which is obviously the less expensive option) or do you try to give this innocent animal a chance. If he had a broken pelvis, with proper care, he can live a good life — look at our boy, Soup. If it’s a broken leg, the worst scenario, is a leg amputation and the caretaker committed to keeping George inside. Were there other issues happening internally that couldn’t be seen from outside??? Very often it’s a crapshoot. Do you spend what you know might be a considerable amount of money to try and save an animal knowing you might lose in the end? When I saw this sweet face, I had to give him a chance. George was taken to the veterinarian where several x-rays and tests were taken — unfortunately, not inexpensive services. And, after all was said and done, it was determined that George’s injuries were just too extensive to ensure surviving or even a good quality of life. He was humanely euthanized in the arms of his caretaker, Dawn. RIP sweet George. You will never be cold again, never have to worry about people hurting you, and you will never be hungry. ~ diana
Lucy – Dumped at a Paint Garage
1/12/17 – This very sweet dog, Lucy, was ‘dumped’ at a paint garage by the owner’s daughter. She left for overseas and didn’t want the dog any more. The owner of the garage was going to offer Lucy for free on Craig’s list or just give her away to one of his customers. Our friend, Wendy, at C.H.A.I.N.E.D., was doing outreach in the area and couldn’t leave her to that fate. We were contacted and we agreed to some ‘simple’ vetting. Well, as is typical with ‘dumped’ dogs, this girl not only needs to be spayed, vaccinated, and tested, but her runny, painful eye is a result of Entropion. I’ve talked about this condition before in that it is very painful and can eventually cause blindness. Thank God for Wendy and her partner who rescued this girl. She has already seen the vet and will be scheduled for surgery to be spayed and have her Entropion resolved; complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart. Lucy is still looking for a permanent home or a rescue group although Wendy is keeping her warm and happy. ~ diana
Danny – RIP Sweet Boy. I’m Sorry We Couldn’t Save You
1/12/17 – RIP Sweet Danny. It was October when a very kind women took you and your 3 siblings into her home to love and care for. You were all alone on the streets. Through many tears and veterinary visits, Danny’s two brothers did not survive. Heartbreakingly, today, Danny had to be sent over the Rainbow Bridge. He was not thriving and today at the vet he was in cardiac arrest. Our poor little Danny had so many issues and was just skin and bones. He will no longer be suffering and will now be welcomed by his two brothers. His only sister is doing well although she remains very small. Please pray for her. Once again, I thank God for the many amazing people like Karen Cartier who take these babies into their homes no matter what heartaches they may face.
