V – RIP – Found Under a Camper But It Was Just Too Late

9/10/20 – RIP Sweet V. Late last night I received a call about a kitten found under a camper. The kitten was very lethargic, emaciated, and couldn’t lift her head. I authorized for her to be seen at Advanced Animal Emergency where she was immediately taken in and attempts were made to do blood work and to stabilize her. Unfortunately, the baby was so emaciated and her body temperature was so low, it took awhile before enough blood could be drawn. After further examination and analysis of the blood work, the doctor called me, as well as her rescuer, and advised us that V’s kidney levels were “off the chart” and that she believed that any further effort would just prolong the inevitable and put V in more distress. The doctor believed that V may have ingested poison like antifreeze or may have been born with a kidney issue. With the doctor’s recommendation, it was decided that V be allowed to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Every life is precious to all of us and each time we have to make a decision like this, it keeps us all up at night. – diana

Diva – Takes a Turn for the Worse

9/9/20 – diva--9:9:20 diva 9:9:20I’m so upset. Serious prayers are needed for Diva… 😞 You might remember she was doing great and enjoying her spa day… Two days later she started with horrible diarrhea. She will not gain weight. She goes between 1 – 1.5 lb. She is about 9 weeks old now. Diva has a ravenous appetite, she is cuddling and she is playing, but she is not thriving with weight gain. We thought it was food intolerance so changed her to a prescription digestive food, treated her for parasites, have her on a nutracal supplement for the extra calories, a vitamin with higher iron for the loose stool, had her on an antibiotic, treated for coccidia, treated her ear infection, and she is on probiotics. Anyone that knows me is fully aware that it kills me to not know how to fix this baby girl… She is also pooping constantly. My friend and board member Dee and her awesome husband Rick are helping a ton taking care of Diva around the clock…and this baby wouldn’t be here without them! Gina

Simon and Toby – RIP – We Couldn’t Help Them Quickly Enough

9/9/20 – RIP Sweet Simon and Sweet Toby. Both were among 4 litters and 4 moms who were rescued in southwest Detroit. Unfortunately, before we could step in to help, 2 of the kittens died. Toby and Simon were both seen a number of times by vets and on his last visit, Toby passed away before the doctor could see him. Simon was diagnosed with FIP, which may have been the cause of the other deaths and after much consternation, the rescuer allowed him to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Please continue to pray and support the many stray, abandoned, and lost animals roaming our streets. And, if you have a little more room in your heart, please pray for the many rescuers and fosters whose hearts break every day at the loss of an innocent animal they tried to save. Unfortunately, the wait time for appointments in our low-cost clinics and veterinary hospitals continues to be an issue and the best we can do is to prioritize those animals closest to being able to reproduce. It has been a challenge for all. – diana

Leo, Lexington, Lucy, and Lebuch – Found at Days Old Stuck in an Excavator

9/6/20 – Happy Update! Remember the Excavator Kittens? The Harrison Twp. Engine House, next door to our friend, Jo, contacted her about days-old kittens stuck in an excavator which was on their property. It was a stormy night but our friends, Jo and Debra, went into action and freed them all and off they went to Jo’s house to be cared for until they could get all of their medical needs taken care of and adopted. They were finally old enough last week and today are doing great. Please contact Jo at: [email protected] if you are interested. Here are Leo, Lexington, Lucy, and Lebuch (not necessarily in order) – Diana

Thank you to our many supporters, veterinarians, and rescuers!!! – diana

Baxter and Finley – Rescued from a Cat Community; Baxter was Very Sick

baxter and finley 9:5:20 baxter 9:5:209/5/20 – Baxter and Finley were both rescued from a feral community in Detroit. Both were very sweet but Baxter was also very sick. He was listless and appeared to have an issue with her anus. After a couple of visits to one of our favorite doctors, both Baxter and Finley are doing good and enjoying the safety and comfort of a home. They are best buds. We are very thankful to our friend, Andrea Dow, for rescuing them and contacting us. – diana

Charlize – Update

8/31/20 An update from Chief Animal Control Officer Brian Pylar:

“The injured kitten, now known as Charlize, was discharged from the emergency veterinary hospital today! The veterinarians suspect her severe burns were likely caused by live flames, and have ruled out engine burns, as her paws and underbelly were not affected. She is now in a foster home and is loving every second of it! This incident is currently under investigation and we are diligently working on finding whoever is responsible.

Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers for her recovery! A huge thank you to her fosters, who opened up their home without hesitation knowing she is going to require constant care to recover and heal properly ! And a huge, huge thank you to our friends at 4 Paws 1 Heart, for covering the costs of her emergency veterinary care and making sure this little girl received the treatment she was in such great need of. It truly takes a village.”charlize 8:31:20🐾💙

Mouse, Daisy, Bean, and Eve – Rescued from the Streets

9/2/20 – All of these babies have been rescued and taken in by our 4p1h friend, Bonnie ([email protected]). Here is the mom (only months old), Mouse, and her (at the time) 3-week-old babies, Daisy and Bean. Mama Mouse also took in little 1-week-old, Eve, to nurse her to health. Eve is now 3 weeks old. All will be taken in to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and tested. Bonnie also rescued Simon, Sam, and Sassy who we were happy to help make sure they never reproduced again, were vaccinated, and healthy enough to be adopted. – diana
