This is Milo. Last week, I got this e-mail from Holly:

“I work for a construction company and a baby kitten hitched a ride from one of our job sites back to the yard. He is about 4-6 weeks his name his Milo, he is currently very, very sick. His eyes are swollen really bad and crusted shut, he is continuously sneezing, you can tell it’s very hard for him to breathe. When he was found his eyes has a crusted layer of dirt over them. I have been bottle feeding him that’s the only way he will eat. I got him eye solution and some medicine for his nose but I’m sure that’s not gonna see him all the way through to feeling better. – Holly”

We were able to get him into one of our partner vets almost immediately and Milo was given medication for an upper respiratory infection. Holly checked in today and reported that Milo has a little of his sense of smell back and did eat a little for the first time. It’s important to know that cats very much rely on their sense of smell for eating. That is another reason why it’s so important to address an upper respiratory infection asap. He is in good hands but Holly doesn’t think his eye is going to make it because it is bulging a little out of the socket. Milo will have a follow-up with our go-to doctor for eye issues/surgeries. This is an update on Ace and Gracie. Ace is a dog rescued from a very difficult situation who needed the usual vetting but he also had a skin issue which we continue to help with through today. He is doing great and is enjoying life both around here and up north. The other photo is Gracie. Another rescue by the same independent rescuer. And, another photo with Riley who she was rescued with (back). Today she is doing great. 6/25/21 – These little beauties were rescued by another independent rescuer who we’ve assisted in the past. Meet mama, Panda, and her babies, Pudding, Peanut, and Pistachio. Their markings are amazing and after they get spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart. 6/23/21 – I know that all of us, at some time, have lost their faith in human beings. Well, there is an industrial shop in Fraser/Clinton Twp. filled with wonderful employees. A while back one of the employees contacted us about a cat who had a severe eye infection. He contacted us and ‘Pecan’ was seen by one of our partner doctors who determined the eye would need to be removed. Pecan is doing great and found her way into a furever home.

Friday, the same employee, Brad, contacted me about another cat who unfortunately had a litter of 3 babies. The three babies seem to have upper respiratory infections and mama is still weaning them. Again, Brad asked if we could help, and because of our supporters, I said “Yes”. The babies are going in this morning to be treated for their possible infections and plans have been made for Mama and the babies to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated when appropriate. The foreman in this shop has made certain that the community of cats have a home and feed the cats daily. A huge Thanks to these wonderful people for caring so much. – diana

6/21/21 – This little angel is Bella. Bella is approximately 5 weeks old and had a door closed on her leaving her rear end paralyzed. Bella was extremely lucky to be rescued and is now being fostered by Rebecca L. and her amazing animal loving family. Rebecca contacted me on Friday and also happened to touch base with our Board member, Denise (also mom of the famous Chance), who also contacted me. Rebecca had taken Bella for x-rays and antibiotics, a steroid injection, and dewormer. The doctors were hopeful that Bella could be helped. Denise visited the family to teach Rebecca how to express Bella in that Bella cannot urinate or move her bowels on her own. Denise is setting up an appointment, under our authorization, with Dr. Kern at Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine for an assessment. In that Denise has a great deal of experience with paralyzed kittens, she will be coordinating this case with Rebecca. 6/20/21 – As I’ve reported throughout the past 15 months, this has been a very tough time for the animals on the streets. Restrictions in medical care, lack of staff, and the many more animals being born and injured on the streets have been a challenge for all of us in the ‘animal rescue’ world. Knish is one such animal.

Knish was being cared for in a cat community and one day the caretaker noticed he was having difficulty with one of his paws. A person we’ve helped in the past was contacted and got Knish into a hospital where the vet advised that the paw had a break but believed it could be repaired although they couldn’t do it. She then contacted us. Through consultation with one of our faves – Dr. Zalac and after examination and x-rays, it was determined that amputation would be best. This meant that Knish would never go outside again. Paige found a foster for Knish which is where he is being socialized and is scheduled for surgery on June 29. Knish was vaccinated but will be neutered during the paw surgery. – diana
