Here are some happy updates we recently received from their loving families:
NOEL – It was around Christmas, 2015 when Noel was brought into the emergency room where Gina was working. She was dying of parvo virus. It turned out that Noel had a sibling who died of parvo but the backyard breeder still used the mom to breed. In January, 2016 she was adopted by a loving family. Unfortunately, Noel was diagnosed with Lymphoma this past year but she is getting lots of love and medical care by the beautiful people who adopted her.
MACK – It was 2015 when we were contacted about Mack. He was found on the streets and found to be positive for heart worm. Heart worm treatment is very expensive but we were happy to give Mack a second chance. Here he is today.
BENTLEY (AKA ALI) – It was 2016 when, at just 2 days old, Ali was “smashed” in a recliner. He was brought into the emergency where Gina worked and Ali’s owner surrendered him to Gina. Ali had several surgeries and trips to Michigan State Veterinary School/Hospital. Gina cared for him until he was fully recovered and then found a wonderful mom who gave us this photo the other day. Gina still visits her little Ali (aka Bentley). By the way, Gina named him Ali after Mohammed Ali who had recently died at the time.
LOLLIPOP – She was one of a number of cats who was cared for by greenhouse owners. Somehow she broke her leg and no one could afford to help her. We received a call from a rescue group we’ve helped in the past and they were able to get her and take her to one of our favorite vets. Unfortunately, she had to have her leg amputated but today she is doing great. – diana

Lodge – Found on the Side of a Busy Freeway Unable to Walk
2/7/20 Update – Lodge is seeing Dr. Z today at 2:30. His rescuer also reported that he is eating and drinking and even had a bowel movement all by himself. Continued prayers. – diana
2/4/20 – Prayers for Lodge. He was rescued from the side of the Lodge freeway this past Friday. It was dark and the rescuer, Thomas, noticed Lodge’s little eyes gleaming in the dark. Thomas was on his way home from work. Thomas pulled back around and fortunately, was able to capture Lodge. The reason — little Lodge couldn’t use his back legs. After trying a couple of vets, we were able to get Lodge in to see a vet today who reported that Lodge’s pelvis and leg is fractured. He is also impacted with feces because of his injuries. The vet recommended euthanasia or a specialist. Lodge is a very sweet 1-year-old cat and we chose to consult with a specialist. This afternoon, one of our ‘go-to’ specialists will review the x rays and let us know what he thinks for next steps. We hope we can give Lodge a good quality of life. Thomas told me he has worked with animals his entire life, including elephants at the zoo, so he is ready for the challenge. Moonbeam – RIP – She May Have Been Poisoned
2/4/20 – RIP Sweet Moonbeam. A caring woman regularly TNR’s cats who find their way to her home. She then feeds them and builds them shelters as needed. Moonbeam showed up about 5 years ago with a mom and brothers and they’ve basically lived on her porch and in their shelters. The other night Moonbeam showed up appearing very sick. We were contacted and Moonbeam was taken to the vet but by then there was nothing that could be done. Moonbeam passed away and the doctor believes she was somehow poisoned. Run free, Sweet girl. ~ diana

Dash and The Knotted Needle – Getting Big and Strong; We Think His Leg Will Be Saved But He Will Need Prosthetics as He Grows
2/2/20 – A huge thank you to the Knotted Needle, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI for hosting an amazing fundraiser for 4 Paws 1 Heart. Dash was with us and he is so good and he’s getting so big. His foster, soon to be mom, is training him to be a therapy dog. ~ diana
Tango – Found on the Streets With Possible Parvo
1/31/20 – Please say a prayer for Tango. It is suspected that she contracted the Parvo Virus. She was rescued from the streets and we recently took care of her initial vetting including spay and vaccines but today she was taken into the hospital because of symptoms that mirror Parvo. ~ diana

Lucky – His 4 Claws Were Chopped Off and His Arm Had to be Amputated
1/31/21 – Most of the rescuers we help assume the vets let me know what treatments have been given to the animals we refer to them. But, that is rarely the case unless further approvals are needed. In my follow up with Jim the other day, I learned that Lucky’s arm was removed. I didn’t notice that in the second (updated photo). ~ diana
1/30/20 – Whenever you are feeling down and start thinking there are no good people left in this world, know this. 4 Paws 1 Heart has assisted nearly 7,000 animals in the past 9+ years. And, you know what, 95% of these animals came to us through amazing individuals who didn’t turn their back on a stray/abandoned/abused animal in need. Jim is one of those. On December 23, 2019 here is what he sent me:
“I run a feeding station at my home for the local feral cats. I participate in TNR. I had a stray come right up to the door and seek me out. It is then that I found I have a stray that requires medical attention. His left front paw has the first 4 claws chopped off. I was hoping you could at a minimum put me in touch with a vet that will not take me to the cleaners trying to help this cat. Maybe one who will take payments over time. I have minimal funding, most of which is spent feeding strays, but I want to help and am willing to foster this animal until a permanent home can be found. He is about 9 months old I would guess and needs to be neutered as well. My primary concern is to take care of the left front paw, that seems to be an open medical need – Jim”
Well, of course we said we would take care of everything; that is what we do. Today, Jim gave me an update (second photo). Lucky is doing great. He is gaining weight and looking healthy. Lucky did have to lose his arm.There were two options, remove the arm now or remove what wwould be like our hand be removed at the wrist. After consultation with several vets, it was decided that removing the arm would be the best option for Lucky. Jim said he is now ready for adoption and hopes to find him a permanent home before he gets to close; Lucky is very affectionate. Bugs – Found on the Streets; Heart Worm Positive
1/28/20 – Bugs was found in a very dangerous neighborhood. With our help, Rebel Dogs Detroit took in Bugs and we agreed to pay for his medical. Unfortunately, Bugs was found positive for heart worm and 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for that as well as his neuter and vaccines. ~ diana

Scarlett – Found on the Streets; Heart Worm Positive and Fungal/Bacterial Infections
1/27/20 – 
Meet Scarlett. She was rescued from the dangerous streets by Streethearts. This beautiful girl had fungal and bacterial infections in her feet and skin and was severely emaciated. She also tested positive for heart worm. Although we often hear about the dire straits for animals in Detroit, there are serious issues in Flint and Pontiac. We are thankful, that due to the generosity of our supporters, we could help by paying for Scarlett’s heart worm treatment. Thankfully, she is no longer on the streets fending for herself. Sassy and Abigail – Left Behind When Their Owners Moved
1/26/20 – Sassy and Abigail were left behind when their owners moved. They were not spayed and who knows if they were ever vaccinated. It is sad and disgusting as to how many alleged humans do this to their cats. I honestly do not understand why people think a domesticated cat can fend for herself in the wild. These two kept trying to go inside any door that would open. Thankfully, they are now safe and warm and had all of their medical needs taken care of by 4 Paws 1 Heart. – diana

Deevo – RIP – Rescued Before His Owner Took Him to a Shelter But He Couldn’t Be Saved
1/24/20 – RIP Deevo. As our followers know, we feel every animal (and human) deserves to be remembered when they leave this world. And, once again, it was humans who failed this very sweet little guy. On January 21, a friend of 4p1h intercepted Deevo when his ‘owner’ was going to take him to a local, high-kill municipal shelter. Yesterday afternoon I received an emergency call because Deevo had a seizure. Unfortunately, the rescuer did not have transportation and while we all worked to make that happen, Deevo continued to have seizures. With the help of Kimberly Willey, an amazing animal advocate, and the rescuer, Deevo was taken to an emergency hospital where he was immediately put on medications for the seizures and tested for distemper. Heartbreakingly, the seizures could not be stopped and Deevo passed during the night. The distemper test is still being processed and we should know by next week if it was distemper that killed this puppy. Distemper is highly contagious and it is why it’s so important that every animal be vaccinated. I’m sure he was the result of a backyard breeder and maybe was going to be ‘dumped’ because there were signs of medical issues already. We will never know but we do know that many tears were shed this morning. – diana
