Toby and Tammi were Abandoned by Their Owners – Now They Have a Forever Home Together

4/6/15 – Toby and Tammi were trapped while conducting TNR in a ‘feral colony”, but, they were not feral. Their owners could not be found and like so many others were probably dumped. 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for their vetting and neutering/spaying and now they are in their forever home together. This is what 4 Paws 1 Heart is all about — paying medical bills which will lead the way to a life of happiness and love. ~ dianatoby4:6:15 tammi4:6:15

Magic – He Walked into a Taco Bell with a Broken Leg

4/5/15 – Meet Magic – This very sweet boy was rescued by a friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart at a Taco Bell in Caro, MI. He limped into the restaurant with an obvious injury to his front leg — one leg actually seemed to be broken at the ‘wrist’. People just kept passing him by while the little guy looked up seeking help until our friend Pam Moyer came along. With the assistance of an elderly couple, Pam was able to rescue the little guy and find a rescue willing to take him in with the medical assistance of 4 Paws 1 Heart. We’ve been working with Friends of Heavenly Paws of Michigan to get Magic the medical help he needs. He has been fully vetted and neutered but the status of his leg has been in question. After being examined by a couple of veterinarians, it was determined that Magic would need his leg amputated. We then contacted our favorite specialist, Dr. Kern, to see if a prosthetic might be in order if the leg did need amputation. Well the good news is that Dr. Kern did see Magic this past week and thinks she can save Magic’s leg. We don’t have all of the information just yet but please continue to keep Magic in your prayers and thoughts and I will keep our friends updated. Please follow Magic’s progress on the Friends of Heavenly Paws of Michigan facebook page.magic4:6:15 magic4:6:::15

Mom and Babies Thrown Outside When Owners are Evicted

4/2/15 – When it rains it pours and Spring is just beginning. Please do whatever you can to educate those you know about the importance of spaying/neutering and the fact that there are low cost options. Here is the mom with the five babies thrown outside when the owners were evicted. It was originally thought that the kittens were 1-week old but their eyes are open, so they may be a little older. Unfortunately, 9 other ‘adults’ (they can be anywhere from one year old to …..)were dumped at the same time. PLEASE SHARE and if anyone can help by fostering this family or any of the adults, please contact Jo Addington, [email protected]. The little family has shelter only for a short time. ~ diana

4/1/15  Chance will be seeing Dr. Tari Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Therapy for Pets next week to determine if some other kind of treatment might be able to help this sweetheart walk again. Here’s a note from his foster mom, Dee. ~ diana

Rescued from a Hoarder’s Home

4/1/15 – Meet the last of the moms and their kittens taken in by Futures 4 Felines after they were rescued by A Hopeful Heart and medically treated with funds from 4 Paws 1 Heart. They were in the hoarder home in Warren, MI and were some of the most critically ill removed from the house. They have all been named after the cast of Laverne and Shirley (old tv sitcom for all of you younger friends). These babies are still having upper respiratory issues but they are with a great rescue who is closely watching their health. 4 Paws 1 Heart has offered to assist with future needs if dollars are available. ~ diana

Humane Society of Macomb – High Kill Rate

3/26/15 – Please visit this facebook page, especially if you live in Macomb County or the nearby counties where your lost animal might cross over.www.facebook.com/pages/Macomb-Humane-Society-Inhumane-and-Cruel/538497886293495?fref=ts People who donate to the Humane Society of Macomb should know how their donations are spent and this ‘shelter’ seems to spend their donated dollars on killing. If you check out the Michigan Department of Agriculture Animal Shelter Report for 2013 you will see that they reported receiving 1,363 cats and killing 1,495 (over 100% kill rate ???); 686 dogs received and 441 killed (65% kill rate). Compare that to a the City of Detroit Animal Shelter which is a government run entity with NO donations — 71% kill rate for cats and a 75% kill rate for dogs AND this is in the City of Detroit where they can’t refuse entry and where there is a overwhelming number of stray animals. Now, also compare all of those numbers to the Macomb Animal Control Shelter — 44% for cats and 36% for dogs and their numbers continue to go down based on policy changes under the current Chief. There are way too many good rescue groups who are truly saving animals who can use your hard-earned money (including 4p1h of course). It’s bad enough that our tax dollars are used to kill animals but to use donated money to kill at such rates in a county like Macomb is unacceptable. As soon as I get a copy of their tax filing, I will share it with all of you. ~ diana
