Gina’s Kittens

March 19, 2013  All the kids are doing great! We are just learning how to eat on our own and use the litter box! This is a very slow and messy process as mommy Gina is going through a TON of laundry and yesterdays news:) Two of us, “Chip and Vanellope” prefer the bottle over the plate, but we should all be eating better by the end of the week. Thank u all for your support as we have had a little rough start in life, but everything will hopefully b ok:) ~ Gina

Remember Gina (aka Cali)

Remember Gina (aka Cali)? She was rescued in Chicago and brought back here but then the rescuer couldn’t keep her. Our good friends at Michigan Cat Rescue took her in and here’s an update:

“Hi Diana, Gina’s namesake, Gina, is doing good. She’s sweet and healthy and very lovable. Just wanted to keep you posted on her! I had a full blood panel run on her and everything is fine, she’s healthy. I also had her bathed/groomed at Harper Woods Vet so she’s all pretty now!

Star Accidentally Hit by a Car

3/13/13 ~ Kitten Accidentally Hit by Car
Star ~ She ran in front of a car and was hit on Wednesday night… The before picture here of Star shows that she has a light amount of blood coming from her left eye. She had head trauma and severe pain in her left side of the chest and the front leg. In fact, she couldn’t even open her eyes and when she did both pupils were different sizes. Star was in a state of shock, pain, panting heavily, and terrified, but our staff was delicate and tending to her every need. Lisa, our technician pulled up a chair and sat in the intensive care area with Star for over 2 hours administering IV medication to prevent further brain swelling and then watching her the entire night every hour on the hour. Within less than 24 hours of being hit Star was stabilized, full of love, and grateful for life. Huge thanks to Dr. Venet and Lisa for saving Stars life during the middle of the night. The good Samaritan who contacted “4 paws 1 heart” for help that evening has come to visit Star to check up on her. If an owner is not found Star will need a home…

Guess who has five 1-week old kittens???

“Guess who has five 1-week old kittens??? If you guessed Gina, you guessed right.A couple brought in the mom and the five, one-week old kittens to the Emergency. The mother was severely convulsing and, unfortunately, couldn’t be saved. The family was devastated but very relieved and appreciative when Gina offered to take in the kittens. The family explained that the female was 1 year old and because of some financial hardships had not had her spayed. Then they rescued an intact male. They thought they had successfully kept them apart but the female got pregnant. The condition which caused her death was a result of the birth and could be better explained by Gina.
A hard lesson to be learned is that we MUST spay and neuter our pets. Too many pets are dying in the shelters, on the streets, or like in this case, because of medical conditions which could have been avoided. There are low-cost clinics which will spay and neuter your cat for $40 and your dog for $80 (sometimes less) Don’t let this heartache happen to you. ~ diana”
