Diamond was Hit by a Car

2/14/13  Diamond was hit by a car and the owner was financially struggling to provide medical care needed.

On a rare occasion “4 paws 1 heart” is able to help more than just stray injured animals with the help of our contacts. In this situation we really wanted the owner to be able to keep her precious baby. We all know that accidents happen and that doesn’t mean her owner didn’t love her because it was clear that she does. With strict rest and medication we expect Diamond to make a complete recovery. I’m happy we were there and able to help this owner keep her baby girl whom she loves so very much. ~ Gina

MAN WITH BRAIN INJURY WAS FORCED TO GIVE UP HIS DOG

2/13/13  MAN WITH BRAIN INJURY WAS FORCED TO GIVE UP HIS DOG. AFTER RECEIVING THIS LETTER FROM MAGGIE AND SHARING THIS STORY WE FOUND HELP FOR HARLEY WITHIN 1 DAY…**********
GINA..
I work with adults with traumatic brain injuries. One of my clients, Brian, is being strong-armed into giving up his dog. He lives in a residential program who allowed him to have this dog and now has changed their mind. Due to his injury, if he does not comply with the program there will be much trouble for him, including losing his place to live and the therapies that he requires to continue to heal.

He is very concerned that Harley will somehow end up mistreated, used for fighting or bait or some other bad situation. Brian does not have the means to properly find someone trustworthy.

This man has lost so much and now he is losing his companion in an unfair situation he has no say in. I want to be able to help him with some reassurance. For Brian to feel Harley will have an good chance to find the right home and be loved, as he deserves to be. I am looking for someone to help us.

He is about 13 months, a mastiff-pit, about 80 pounds, neutered and up to date on shots. Housebroken, never crated and likes to chew on things. He is supposed to be a goofy lover type, though I have not met him.

Any help, or direction, you could give us would mean so much.

Thank you,

Maggie

Good morning Gina.
Thank you for forwarding the information.
Last night we found a place to take Harley, thanks to you. He will be leaving Brian’s this weekend, he asked me to send a heartfelt “thank you” to you. He is going to Christine’s Critter Cafe.
I met Harley yesterday, I wish I had the room, with some patience and training he is going to be an amazing dog.
We did briefly discuss the media and he decided against it.
Again, thank you for your help and helping with Brian’s peace of mind.

Molly Back Home Safe – ID Your Animals

Although Molly is back home safe and sound there are many other pets getting lost every day. I’d like to remind everyone to have ID on your animal at all times. Most of you know I’m a tech at an emergency hospital and on a daily basis we get concerned residents calling about stray dogs and cats many of them are injured and terrified most of them never make it back home. My mom didn’t have a collar on Molly because one of her other dogs got his tag caught on something and he almost choked. This was a lesson learned for her. Molly was micro-chipped but that does no good unless the animal is brought to a place where they can scan them, and sometimes the readers fail to work. You can write with a sharpie on the collar or get a tag that clamps to the collar itself. If your looking for your animal post flyers everywhere with a reward (gives people incentive), call all the surrounding police departments, animal control officers, veterinary hospitals, postal carriers, ups and fed x drivers, landscapers, post on craigs list, and on “For the love of Louie” the last two have been very helpful in reuniting animals with their owners. Think about how much medical care is for your injured pet. Who is going to pay for that if they get hurt? Some get lucky and get another chance, but many out there don’t… Please share this information with your family and friends.. ~ Gina

2/11/13 A New Letter from Our Hercules

2/11/13  Here’s a new letter from our Hercules:
Hello everyone!
Sorry to be away for so long.  We have been very busy at my house.  My folks took a little vacation which meant that I got to get away with lots of stuff with the pet sitter!  My new tricks include stealing things off the kitchen counter and climbing up onto them too (rear legs completely off the floor with elbows up – better for checking things out).  I wouldn’t want anyone to think that I can’t get into as much trouble as the next pup just because I have some minor rear leg issues!  Lately there haven’t been too many goodies on the counter though, which is a bummer!  They must be figuring this trick out.  I will have to come up with another new one soon.
The new Pawsitive Steps Rehab office is apparently coming along well and mom says that I will soon get to go to work with her everyday, which will mean lots of car rides and play time for me.  It sounds like lots of fun, so I am looking forward to that.  In the meantime, I have been going to the mall and obedience school and spending lots of time playing in the snow.
Stay pawsitive!

Missy Update

2/5/13 MISSY UPDATE: “I have Missy home with me as of last night. She is eating and wagging her tail a little showing baby steps of improvement. Her IV is in and I’m administering medication throughout the day while giving lots of love. She seems to be thriving better in a home environment rather than at the vet hospital. Paws Crossed.” ~ Gina

MISSY – HIT BY A CAR; NEEDS YOUR PRAYERS

February 4, 2013 Additional information from Gina: Missy was hit by a car and she was an owner surrender. We allowed the family to relinquish rights in order to provide the financial and medical support Missy needed otherwise humane euthanasia was the alternative. In this situation it was best for Missy to stay in our care for more than one reason, and when she is healed she will go to a rescue group for fostering and placement. I’ll keep you updated as I know more.. ~ Gina
February 3,  2013 – 4 Paws 1 Heart took in Missy a 3 year-old Maltese, who was hit by a car and arrived with a broken jaw and a proptosed (popped out) eye.  The eye had to be surgically removed and the jaw had to be wired. Dr. Matt Heinz did both procedures and Missy is on her way to healing.  She needs your prayers for a speedy recovery!

Once healed, she will need a rescue group to take her in and find her a forever loving home.  Gina
