Hercules had lots of fun in this session (6/21/12) as he retrieved a couple toys in the water. He swam with the toys in his mouth like a pro! Dr. Kern has some photos that I hope she shares as she participated in the session with us yesterday. ~ Lori Jobak, 4 Paws Health & Wellness.

Olive and Her New BFF
6/22/12 Olive was fostered by Gina until Hercules required Gina’s attention in mid-May. She then went to stay with Carrie Krausmann of Lil’ Dogs Resort ang received lots of love and attention and met many new friends. The parents of one of the dogs who would stay at the resort fell in love with Olive and on June 12 she was adopted. We’ve added a photo of Olive with her new BFF, Bailey. ~ diana
Hercules the Star!
Hercules Update: Hercules is doing very well. He is such a good boy. The cats are adjusting slowly and he is being very patient although he would really like to play with them. He is catching on nicely to the routine here and his exercises — will do anything for food! We have to watch him closely – he puts everything in his mouth (grass, sticks, cat toys!). He also likes to try to romp around with toys as expected, but we have to try to limit this a bit. Poor guy, he just wants to be a puppy, but if allowed to overdo it he will limp more later. This is a consistent feature, so we are taking everything slowly. He would rather set the pace, but he seems to pay a price for too much freedom sometimes.
His rehabilitation therapy is staggered out through the day to pace his endurance and also to burn some puppy energy along the way. He is getting massages frequently (which he really seems to like. We take short leash walks 4 to 5 times daily. He is learning basic words and commands – he is a quick study! House training is really coming along well too. He is doing some weight shifting and balance work along with some slow steps and inclines. We vary it to keep it interesting for him. He also gets some therapeutic laser and acupuncture. He goes to hydrotherapy twice weekly also. He has quite the busy schedule! He is looking forward to starting obedience classes next week.
I have finally sorted through the pile of photos and videos accumulated so far! He is quite the ham! I will attach photos and videos in multiple messages, so that they make it through.
Chris and I are truly enjoying having Hercules here and watching the new stuff he figures out each day. ~ Dr. Tari Kern
Hercules Update ~ 4 Paws Health & Wellness
Lori Jobak of 4Paws Health & Wellness provided this update on our Hercules: “I would like to provide a Hercules update: He had had his fifth 15-minute session and is doing well. He is “all puppy” and has a very short attention span but those “delicious treats” help to keep him focused and motivated. His physical canine rehab partner joined us in the water yesterday. Hercules has limited range of motion in his rear legs due to his limitations from his abuse but he is ‘swimming’ with them and his front legs are doing well in the water! Next to having my face slobbered with his kisses, it is a joy working with this beautiful boy!!”
Medical Care for 4 Puppies
4 Paws 1 Heart helped Dog Aid 2012 with the initial medical care of 4 puppies. The mom died and out of a litter of 13 there were only 4 left. They are all doing well and they are with the rescue group who was quick to respond. There is a better picture on my wall but I don’t know how to copy it?? I’d rather use that one for our records, but I don’t know if you can take it from my wall. The initial call came in from the owner who wanted nothing to do with the pup’s., and it’s unclear how the mom died. The pup’s were only a few weeks old.
Rusty
“This little guy was found walking in the middle of the road. He had a sore on his body, a mass on his abdomen, very unkempt and intact. A friend of 4P1H, Nicole, contacted us and asked if we could help get this little guy get examined and neutered. She had been trying to find his owner but without success. Although she could take care of his future needs, Nicole needed a little help for his current state. 4P1H is all about funding medical treatment for abandoned animals and Rusty sure seemed to fit this description. It seemed obvious to me that even if he had owners, that had obviously neglected him. Normally, we would pay or help pay for the medical bills then ask one of our Rescue friends to take him on, BUT in this case, we had a win/win. We were able to get our little guy examined (negative on heartworm) and vaccinated and he will be neutered and his hernia will be repaired next month. And, even better, he has a new loving furever home with Nicole and her children and fur family. ~ diana
Tiny Little Itsey Bitsey
This poor little girl was found all alone on the side of the road, no siblings and no mommy. She has multiple health issues… Malnourished, skinny, eye problems, infected wounds, and deformed hind leg, and a hernia. She is so tiny and sweet, we will bottle feed her and get her all the vet care she needs.
“4P1H was happy to help Itsey and the wonderful women of Dog Aide 2012 with medical bills for this little girl.” ~ diana
Sweetpea is Fighting for her Life
Sweetpea is fighting for her life, she has been diagnosed with Babesiosis Gibsoni. This is a horrible disease transmitted by ticks (she was on topical flea/tick preventative). This disease destroys red blood cells and causes severe anemia and for many dogs, death. Treatment to control this disease has been started, but a blood transfusion is her best hope for survival since she’s lost so much blood. We’ve spent thousands of dollars to save her mother Gretchen and to care for Gretchen’s seven pups (Sweetpea’s brothers and sisters). We are financially and emotionally exhausted.
Without financial help to pay for a transfusion, Sweetpea’s outcome is very grim. We’ve applied for emergency grants but they will likely not be considered or awarded in time. Without your help all we can offer Sweetpea is medication and supportive care – this likely won’t be enough. Please, please help us save Sweetpea.
4P1H was very happy to be able to help Sweetpea and Animal Advocates of Michigan with some medical dollars and prayers! ~ diana
