Mister – Post Surgery Update

12/20/19 – Update on Mister. Mister is the senior kitty who was recently rescued and found to have two abscesses on each side of his anus. We immediately had authorized Mister to see a vet and for a couple of visits the abscesses were drained while the rescuer was also draining the wounds twice a day. On Wednesday, Mister had surgery because the wounds would not heal. The doctor believed surgery in the colon was needed. We ok’d the surgery and yesterday I was contacted and told the surgery went well but Mister had to have his anal glands removed. Mister’s rescuer is committed to giving this senior a good home and lots of love. He is doing well but will be in the hospital for another day or two. Thank you to all he said a little prayer for this guy. ~ diana

Halo and Gidget – Found in a Cat Community

12/20/19 – halo 12:20:19 gidget 12:20:19The 4p1h Village Kitty Room at Pet Supplies Plus on Harper at 13 Mile Rd. in St. Clair Shores. In addition to our mission to reduce the number of unwanted animals by funding medical treatment for the abandoned and abused, is our commitment to assist our Village of rescuers who need assistance in finding forever homes for those cats and kittens they rescue. This is why, as a 501c3 non-profit organization, we offer courtesy postings on Petfinder, and have a separate fb page, Friends of 4 Paws 1 Heart, to promote those we help. We also offer generic adoption application and agreement forms to insure proper protocol is used when adopting out animals. Pet Supplies Plus has also allowed us to have a donation bin at the store where supporters can drop off food, litter, and other pet supplies. Again, although 4 Paws 1 Heart does not have animals, a few of our Board members are independent rescuers and care for cat communities. We also have a list of many independent rescuers and cat community caretakers, who we’ve assisted with medical needs, and they can always use assistance with food, litter, and winter shelters. So, as a Village, we all do what we can to help each other. Thank you to our many supporters – businesses and residents – who help make this happen. ~ diana

Clara – Found Roaming the Streets of southwest Detroit – Before and After

12/19/19 – Cali was found roaming the streets of southwest Detroit. She was brought into the family’s home and later another member of the family decided to give her a forever home. We were happy to get her ready for adoption by paying for her testing, spaying, vaccines, and wellness check. Thankfully, another baby is off of the dangerous streets. ~ diana

Mister – He is Not Improving and Now Needs Surgery

12/17/19 – Please say a little prayer for this ‘old man’ and if you can afford a donation, it would make a big difference. It’s always so hard to make these decisions because we have limited funds and many upcoming commitments. But I decided that one way or another, we had to give Mister a second chance at life. He has been through so much. I posted about Mister not too long ago. He was a community cat who was TNR’d but he befriended his caretaker who, after months of feeding him soft food because he had limited teeth, decided to take him in. She discovered that he had what appeared to be abscesses on each side of his anus and contacted us. Mister has been to the vet twice now and each time had the abscesses drained. His rescuer also had to drain the abscesses twice a day. We had hoped he had turned the corner but Mister had to go back to the vet for the third time yesterday. Now the doctor feels that he needs surgery and the issue has to do with his colon. The doctor was pretty positive that this would be successful but if not done, he should be humanely euthanized. I have approved his surgery because even though he is an older kitty, he has been through so much and I’m hoping that this surgery will give him a second chance at a long life. Thank you for your prayers and support.
P.S. The photos of the abscesses are too graphic to post. ~ diana

Sassy and Abigail – Left Behind By Their Owners After They Moved From Their Apartment

12/17/19 – Sassy and Abigail were left behind when their owners left their apartment. Why so many people who rent apartments believe it’s ok to leave their pets behind is beyond me!! Fortunately, a caring person contacted our friend, Jo, and she found a foster. We were able to get the girls spayed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and tested. If you are interested in these sweet girls, please contact Jo at: [email protected] – diaina

Freckles – RIP – Found in a Cat Community With a Severe Upper Respiratory Infection, Leukemia, and a Mouth and Throat Filled With Ulcers

12/16/19 – RIP Freckles. I truly apologize for all of the sad news lately, but it’s important for our many supporters to know the dire straits every outdoor animal faces not only at this time of the year but every day. They are victims of heart worm, severe upper respiratory infections, broken limbs, leukemia, and so much more. This is Freckles. He was a member of a cat community cared for by a friend of 4p1h. He had a very severe upper respiratory infection that just wasn’t improving. He had feline leukemia and his mouth and throat was filled with ulcers. He had not eaten in several days. We tried but in the end, he couldn’t make it. May he now rest in peace without pain and be happily playing with those who went before him. No person or animal should live in this world without being recognized as they end one journey and begin the next. ~ diana

Bandit – RIP – Found in a Cat Community With a Shattered Vertebrae

2/15/19 – RIP BANDIT – The life of a feral cat, expecially a black one, is not an easy one. Bandit was a member of a cat community who showed up one day limping. We authorized x rays with one of our partner vets. The vet examined him and took x rays and said that there was nothing wrong with his leg; he thought Bandit may have jumped on it wrong. A few days later and Bandit was not improving so the community caretaker/rescuer took Bandit to another vet who took another x ray. Unfortunately, this x ray showed a shattered vertebrae, possibly the result of being hit by a car. The rescuer made the decision to put Bandit out of his pain and had him humanely euthanized.. This posting is not to condemn the first vet who saw Bandit just a learning that sometimes you do have to go with your gut and get a second opinion. If only they could talk to us. But also, please understand that options for feral cats are much less than with domestic cats. – diana

Newman – RIP – His Injuries Were Just Too Severe But He Knew The Right Home To Go To

12/13/19 – RIP Sweet Newman. A long-time friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart and a lover of any animal, contacted me about a month ago asking if we could pay for a stray cat to be neutered. Unfortunately, this feral guy was elusive and then he stopped coming around for about two weeks. Yesterday he showed up in her mud room and after feeding him, she was able to trap him. Sadly, in that month he got very beaten up. His eyes were almost closed shut from an obvious upper respiratory infection and he appeared to be deaf. It was determined that even if the infection could be cleared, he could not live outside in his condition and could not be socialized. He went to the vet this morning and was humanely euthanized. He is in a better place where he will not be prey for other animals and humans. ~ diana

Sally, Ocso and Miura – They were Rescued After they Were Weaned From Their Mom

12/12/19 – Their mom was trapped/neutered/released and her babies were rescued. Sally, Ocso, and Miura are being spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart. Then, they will all go to the Ferndale Cat Shelter and maybe show up at the Ferndale Cat Cafe (in case you want to meet them). I hate to think of all of the innocent animals who don’t get the chance at a second life. ~ diana
