Babies Born in a Truck with Dirty Rags and No One Wanting Them

6/23/16 – This is just one of the many sad and dangerous conditions that mama cats and their babies find themselves in. The ending of this story has yet to be played out but we are praying that our vast village of caring cat experts can help out. This mama cat decided to have her babies in the back of a pick up truck. Totally unprotected and unwanted. We received a call from a concerned citizen because the family wants the family OUT now or they will go to a shelter. The mom appears to be very feral (or overly protective of her kittens). We can understand that the feline family may be interfering with the use of the truck but…..

We have been sharing the need in hopes that our many friends can figure out the best way to ensure the safety for everyone. We will keep you updated but I wanted to share the plight of so many of those who must rely on us to make a difference.

Kittens – Living in a Woodpile Need a Home

6/23/16 – Please share!! While we continue to help our canine friends, the mama cats and kittens continue to be busting out of the seams. No matter how much we all spay and neuter our feline friends, the reproduction just continues. If you want to know why, here it is. A female cat can start reproducing as early as 4 months old. She can then proceed to have 3 litters a year. If that female, living in the wild, lives to 3 years old (about 11-14 years younger than an indoor cat), she can average having 45 kittens in that short life span. And, if nothing is done with those 45, each one of them will continue the cycle to either have kittens or create kittens.

Every day we get calls from individuals we have worked with and new friends who can’t turn their back on the alone and abandoned. Here are 3 beauties who are about 6-8 weeks old whose mom is no longer caring for them. Many people might consider these babies feral, but keep in mind that we brought in a sweetheart who was outside for 10 months and had already had one litter, and a 12 week old. Today, they can’t get enough of Tony’s love.

If anyone is interested in helping these babies, please contact Jamie,[email protected]. 4 Paws 1 Heart will pay for all medical and let you use our resources to find permanent placement. Thank you for sharing and educating. ~ diana

Marbles – Found in a Subdivision Without Any Identification

6/22/16 – Let’s find this beauty a furever home!! Here is Marbles’ story as given to us from her rescuer. ~ diana
“PLEASE SHARE: This is Marbles, a stray female cat that has been hanging around 25 Mile and Jewel (Lake Arrowhead sub, Shelby Township). Tried locating her owner, but no luck. Want to find her a furever home ASAP. Marbles has been vetted through 4Paws1Heart (a special thanks to Diana). She was previously spayed, no chip, now up to date on shots, no fleas, and tested negative. Marbles weighs 16 lbs., but she told me that she is big boned. Vet said she’s 1-1/2 years old, but she acts like a much more mature cat. Very mellow. Not comfortable around young children or dogs, but she hung around our feral cats outside and did fine, so I would think other cats would be okay. She loves to be petted and brushed! Marbles is such a sweetie! Her favorite hobbies are looking out the window and opening cupboards! If interested, please call me at 586-781-2406. Please leave a message in my absence. – Gail”

Bella – Her Owner No Longer Wanted Her

6/20/16 – Meet Bella. She is a 7-month old American Staffordshire Terrier/mix. Her owner no longer wanted her so the owner’s father took her to the Romulus Animal Shelter. The shelter did not have any room and said they could euthanize her but they would charge for the procedure. The owners didn’t want to pay and brought Bella back home. A neighbor heard of Bella’s fate and had the owners surrender the dog to her. Now, they need our help and we are happy to give it. Bella will be spayed, vaccinated, and heart worm tested. The rescuer will try to find a perfect home for this cutie. ~ diana

Sweetpea – Found on the Street

6/20/16 – THANK YOU! A huge thank you to all of our friends who made donations during our Father’s Day Challenge. We met our goal of $2,500 and our generous benefactor will not only be matching ALL of the donations but an additional bonus will be included.

This is Sweetpea. Another sweet innocent left behind. Because of the generosity of our supporters, 4 Paws 1 Heart can continue to take care of the many animals who have no one else. With the help of our caring veterinarians, $100 will pay for neuter/spay, basic vaccinations, and testing for feline leukemia/feline aids. A female cat can get pregnant as early as 4 months old and she can have 3 litters a year for most of her life. Assuming each litter has 5 kittens, that’s 15 kittens a year! If that female lives in the wild for just 4 years, she will produce approximately 60 kittens. Then, those kittens, will continue the cycle. That $100 investment will ensure that hundreds of cats will NOT be born. That is what we call making a difference — all because of you. Again, thank you so very much!!

P.S. Anyone interested in this little beauty, should contact Jo at [email protected] ~ diana

Odin – Happy in His New Home

6/19/16 – As the Father’s Day barbecues come to an end, Odin decides it’s time for a nap. I thought we’d end this Father’s Day celebration with an update on our little Odin. He was hit by a car and temporarily paralyzed. Because of you, we were able to pay for his medical needs and our angel, Gina, fostered him for one year. Finally, that perfect family came along. Here he is today, all tuckered out from a day of celebrating, playing and watching TV. A huge thanks to Odin’s family and all of our friends who help us make miracles happen. ~ diana

Ali – The Little Fighter Caught in a Recliner Keeps Fighting

6/19/16 – Happy Father’s Day to all of our wonderful dads of skin and fur children!! But, let us not forget all of the great moms and dads who sometimes have to play the role of mom and dad. On this last day of the Father’s Day Challenge where all donations will matched by a generous benefactor, I would like to again present Ali and his mom/dad/angel, Gina. Although Ali is healing as each day goes by, he still has a long road ahead which will include a visit or two to the Michigan State Veterinary Medical Center.
Ali, at less than one pound, was caught in a recliner. His two toes were cut off and a serious laceration to his skin was infected. We do not know why this little baby was in a position to have this happen to him but we do know there were other puppies in this litter. The owners were advised of their options, and when the medical staff returned to find out their decision, they found that little Ali had been ‘dumped’.
As Gina has kept us updated, we learned that this little guy is one serious fighter. He had already died once and was brought back to life. Now he appears to be thriving and ready to grow into a phenomenal boy like our girl, Sophia (aka Sommerset), who faced similar skin and infection issues at a very early age (see our website 4paws1heart.org).
Your donations during this challenge will help pay for Ali’s treatment at Michigan State which in the past has averaged $1,000 (that includes the generous matching donation of Michigan State). He will still need to have the remaining part of his two toes amputated. And, of course, this doesn’t include the medical care that has already gone into saving this sweet baby.
There are times in our lives when we have to make those hard decisions. An animal comes to us and we have to determine quality of life, prognosis, and cost. It is never easy. In Ali’s case, Gina saw something in his little closed eyes and knew he needed us to fight with him and that is what we did. A huge thank you, once again, to all of our friends who believe in us and continue to support us. Please take credit in saving the lives of so many who had no one else to be their voice! ~ diana
