9/20/18 – Prayers and Positive Energy Needed. This is Chancey. A good samaritan was driving down a road in Port Huron and saw a cat in the street. She stopped with the intent of chasing the cat off of the street and what she found next was horrible. Another cat came out of the bushes with what looked like “the top of his mouth and the top of his nose missing”. For the next couple of days, the finder went back to feed Chancey and give water; then she contacted us. Last night we asked the good Samaritan to get Chancey safely inside and that we would work toward placement and medical. This afternoon he will be going to our emergency hospital partner and if all goes well will have placement. At this time we do not know the extent of his injuries but we do know that he his eating and drinking but as you can see very thin. We will keep everyone updated. Your support is very much appreciated. ~ diana

Clark – Saved by the Village
9/18/18 – After yesterday’s very sad news, we wanted to share a happy story from this past weekend. I received a call from a long-time 4p1h supporter who we’ve assisted with other rescues in the past. Another very sweet cat was hanging around his house and our friend was asking if we could find him a rescue and have him seen by a vet. Our friend put together a box with a blanket and food while we could hopefully find a home. We were also set to have him (Clark) see a vet on Monday. Well, through the amazing work of the Village, Monroe Animal Rescue agreed to take in Clark and he was brought to the rescue within hours. I am totally serious when I say it takes a Village.
Baby Tony – Hit by a Car; His Injuries Were So Severe, Humane Euthanasia Was the Only Option
9/17/18 – RIP Sweet Baby Tony — Our Board member, Angela, discovered 4 kittens, while she was working, being fed by a kind woman. On Saturday Angela and our great friend, Debra Berolatti went back to the property and rescued 4 kittens, one of whom had been hit by a car. Little did we know that the injured kitten was very badly hurt. He had a multiple femur breaks in both back legs and a fractured pelvis. The doctor recommended humane euthanasia. Our hearts break every time a decision like this needs to be made. As the doctor said, at least he will no longer suffer and then die on the street because he could not defend himself. With all of the neuter/spay we all do, the over population of stray cats just never seems to go away. It is up to all of us. ~ diana
Ford – Hit by a Car; Required Surgery for a Fractured Femur
9/17/18 – Ford was only in his forever home for two weeks when he was hit by a car. HIs femur was fractured and he required surgery that his owners could not afford. The owners made the difficult decision to surrender Ford to Streethearts Animal Rescue. We were contacted for help and we were thankful that we could assist with Ford’s medical costs. Anyone interested in Ford should contact Streethearts Animal Rescue. ~ diana
Bubba – Rescued from a Shelter. Extremely Scared, Pinch Collars Digging Into His Throat, Ears Being Eaten by Bugs
❤Bubba is up for adoption! We think he is a Mastiff/Staffordshire terrier mix. 🐕
Bubba was rescued from a shelter he was extremely scared and shutdown.
When he came in his ears were eaten by bugs, he had 3 pinch collars too small digging into his throat, he was dirty with horrible skin and an obvious broken spirit. He shows many signs of abuse. 4 Paws 1 heart jumped into action giving him a chance and saved this sweet boy. They have paid for the medical bills and allowed his true personality to show by giving him a chance. He is placed in a foster with two dogs that he gets along wonderfully with, he’s been cat tested and he’s great with calm cats who have been around dogs.
When he first meets a new person he shuts down, gets scared, and won’t move. We suspect he was abused and due to this he trusts people very slowly. It took a month for the foster to fully get him out of his shell and even then loud noises and quick actions frighten him greatly.
He seems more fearful of men but with work he has shown he can happily cuddle with them.
He has met small children and he acts the same as with any new face, he begins trembling and not making eye contact. He’s never growled or attacked and he shows no signs of aggression.
This could be overwhelming thinking he’ll never open up, love you, or be a normal dog.
But, luckily that is not the case! He eventually will and when he does
he is a snuggle bug who loves to sleep in bed with you, loves relaxing lazy time, but also enjoys a Walk or run and his walking skills are amazing. He loves to play tug-of-war and fetch and he just loves baby talk.
He’s potty trained, knows basic commands, and has the best smile in the world.
All vaccines are up to date and he is neutered.
He’d do best in a home with someone looking for a loyal companion. Someone who needs a true friend and someone who is willing to take the time to help him open up.
Bubba is goofy, loving, and will surely complete a family if they are willing to give him the time and love he deserves.
He’ll happily return that in time.

Charlie – Found Underweight, Flea and Worm Infested
9/16/18 – This little cutie is doing well. He was still too small for a fiv/felv test but will be rechecked in a few weeks. He will be available for adoption when old enough. Anyone interested should contact Cortney at: [email protected] ~ diana
“Update 9/13, Charlie goes to the vet today at 5 to be rechecked and combo tested if possible. He has gone from very underweight at 12 oz to 1lb 6.5oz in jusy 9 DAYS. Hopefully our visit goes well, thanks to the WONDERFUL 4 Paws 1 Heart for making this happen for Charlie. I couldn’t do it without you guys!
Newest addition to our rescue madness. This is Charlie, he was found Erica Diola was able to get the address, I picked him up and dropped him off to her at work to be checked out. He’s very underweight, parasites in his feces, multiple species of worms, and potential URI I believe, he is now on FortiFlora Rx diet, along with antibiotics. He only has half of a tail and is estimated at about 7 weeks old. I decided to take him on to add him to my litter of kittens for socializing. However he was too small to be combo tested and needs to be quarantined anyways. Once he’s healthy enough he’ll be introduced to the babes and put up for adoption!-Cortney”
Cuz – Living On a Chain in the Middle of a Backyard — No Food, No Water, No Bone
9/15/18 – We just love to hear about the happy beginnings. Giving abused, abandoned, and stray animals a second chance always takes a village — the rescuers, the vets, the donors, and the adopters. Thank you – diana
I started providing food and straw… and started the vaccinations on him and his yard mate.
One month later Cuz and his yard mate were surrendered to me.
I teamed up with Diana and 4 Paws 1 Heart to finish up his vetting.
On the day of his neuter we learned he was heartworm positive. We opted to neuter and deal with the heart worms after.
He was immediately started on doxycycline for the heartworm treatment. He was then moved up north to get some one on one with a human and learn some house manners.
He has been taking it all in stride and gaining weight at a steady pace.
Today is the day we’ve been waiting for… he is officially heartworm negative!!!!
Because of 4 Paws1 Heart his quality of life has greatly improved. – Megan”
Billy – Gets Cleared for His Surgery
9/14/18 – NEWS ALERT!! Billy had his visit with the specialist yesterday and more x-rays were taken. The doctor discovered even more fractures than was originally thought. The good news is that the doctor believes Billy is a good candidate for his surgery and it has been scheduled for 9/21/18. AND, the reason we are able to take care of this so soon is because Team Chance (the many supporters of a Second Chance for Chance) generously donated enough to pay for Billy’s surgery in addition to buying a medical appliance who will not only help Billy but can be used by the rest of our special needs gang. I join Chance in sincerely thanking the many people over the past 8 years who have helped us make miracles happen. Please continue to keep Billy in your prayers. ~ diana
