Community Involvement – High Kill Shelters Need to be Shut Down or Be Creative to Save

4/11/15 – protest kittyVery proud of the 4 Paws 1 Heart Board members and the 4 Paws 1 Heart Support Group Joanne Marie Hoopes, Debra Berolatti, Denise Najera, Patricia DiMaggio Siergiej, who came out to protest the deathly practices of the Humane Society of Macomb. Shirley, owner/director, can justify all she wants, she can clean up the place for the media, and she can claim that her “kill rate” includes owner requests for euthanasia. But their own facts speak for themselves — 1,363 cats were taken into the shelter in 2013 and 998 were euthanized at the director’s choice (70% kill rate) and 497 were allegedly at owner’s request. Let’s keep up the fight.  This kitty is one of of small percentage who made it out alive and was adopted.  He couldn’t stop eating for three days, according to his owner. ~ diana

Disney Duck Tales

4/10/15 – So here is the situation — You saw the three kittens Gina took in last night. Thankfully, our friend, Amanda, of Advanced Animal Emergency, agreed to take them in and bottle feed them. This morning I received a call from another 4p1h friend — landscapers were at a home and found two 1-week old kittens while they were working on private property. The landscapers advised the homeowner, and the homeowner told the landscaper to THROW THEM IN THE TRASH. Can you believe this??? Unfortunately, yes I can. Although many puppies and dogs are abused, I firmly believe that more people believe cats and kittens are ‘throw aways”. I have to admit that I would love to see these people, who were so uncaring of life, rot in hell and maybe, some day, their actions will catch up to them. A huge thank you to the landscaping employees who did care and brought them into the hospital so that Amanda Morris could add them to the ‘group’. If I find out the name of the Company, I will let everyone know so that if you are looking for a landscaping company, you can check them out. Thank You, Amanda, for taking them in! Here is Amanda’s posting. ~ diana

“And just like that, three became five. Ttis the season. First three are all eating well this morning…. Let’s see what we can do about the next two. Soooo much tabby love! ~ Amanda”Disney Duck Tales

Chance – Getting Treatment for His Paralysis

4/7/15 – First, let me apologize because Joy is not getting surgery until tomorrow April 8. I’m sure all of your prayers will still be good and I will let everyone know how she makes out as soon as I hear. Second, Chance saw Dr. Tari Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation and Therapy for Pets and Dr. Kern was cautiously optimistic about Chance’s prognosis. She believes Chance suffered and injury after being pulled from the shelter. Today Dr. Kern performed acupuncture and laser treatment on our sweet boy. Dee, his foster mom, said that Chance has actually sat up tonight — something he has never done. While everyone is in a prayer and positive energy mode, please continue to remember Joy whose surgery is tomorrow and our little Chance who will again be seeing Dr. Kern on Friday.chancew:acupuncture4:7:15 chancew:dr kern4:7:15 chancew:dr.kern::4:7:15

A Beautiful Cat Dies After Being Attacked by a Large Bird

4//7/15 – Here is a frightening story that is worthy of sharing, especially, with anyone you know who has small pets. Last night I received a call about a cat being cared for in a feral colony. The cat was writhing in pain and upon closer inspection was found to have talon wounds on his back. It’s suspected that possibly a hawk or other large bird tried taking him but somehow failed. We immediately authorized the cat to be seen at one of the emergency hospitals who work with us. The cat was in serious condition and within a short period went into cardiac arrest and died. Thank you to our friend Debbie N. for trying to save this sweet life. He is no longer in pain and is now with all of the innocent lives who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Please let his experience be a warning as the weather gets warmer and more of our pets are spending time outdoors. ~ dianahawkattack--4:7:15 hawkattack4--7--15 hawkattack4:7:15

Lucy – Kicked So Hard by an Abuser, She Had to Have Her Leg Amputated

4/6/15 – You might remember that sweet Lucy was so viciously kicked by a neighbor of the rescuer that she eventually had to have her leg amputated. Thankfully, her savior, Alyssa, religiously brought Lucy to the hospital (some 60 miles away) under Gina’s and 4 Paws 1 Heart’s care, to initially be examined, for the many follow up visits, and then finally for the amputation. Alyssa also tried to get the police to respond to animal cruelty charges but they didn’t care. Here they are some 7 months later. They are both dolls!  Here is a message from Mom Alyssa. ~ diana
