German Shepherd Puppy Beats Parvo

germanshepherdhadparvo8:8:14
8/7/14 – We recently treated this (German Shepherd) puppy for Parvo Virus. He is getting better, but still will need meds continued. He is about 8 weeks old, 7#, and quite the handful!!! BUT ADORABLE! If you are serious and can help foster for us please let us know. Please give me time to respond as the emails will come swarming in for a cute little puppy like this. Email at [email protected] (because he had parvo he can not go into a home where there are unvaccinated puppies). Even though treated he can shed the virus for several months or longer in his feces. He also has Roundworm for which he is being treated. He needs work with biting and pottie training. Like I said he is a handful….not just a cute puppy:) He is a big commitment! ~ gina

Bradley – Continuing to Heal from a Life in a Cage

7/9/14 – Update on, 4 paws 1 heart, “Bradley”. For those of you that didn’t see his story, he came to us as an owner surrender because he was having seizures. Since we began him on seizure medication he has not had one seizure. We did not get any information because the family just wanted to walk away. He had a seizure immediately when he was brought in, so we never got a chance to see what he was like “normally”. What I have discovered is that he does not know how to play, he does not know any commands, he was never potty trained, and he does not wag his tail. He had urine scalding on both of his knees and the tops of his back feet from laying in his feces and urine. It was to the point he had infected sores. He does give tons of gentle kisses and unfortunately he was never neutered, so he has a little teddy bear friend to take his hormones out on. It would be best to put him in a home with no animals or with a medium to large size dog because he tends to try and dominate dogs smaller than him. When we get him neutered it will help. He is good around my cats, so a home with furry feline is fine too.. He is just over 2 years old. Please contact me by email only or by private message on this page for more information, or if you are willing to adopt him. [email protected]

Mr. Jim – A New Life Begins

7/8/14 – Happy Beginnings! Mr. Jim was chained to the fence of an abandoned home. After being rescued by a caring couple, he was found to be deaf and Heart Worm positive. Here is his happy update from his rescuer: ~ diana

“He was adopted on Wednesday. His new family loves him! They are a great couple….wife stays home all day so Jim can just follow her around the house and watch her. When she goes, he goes. Perfect for His anxiety. She is retired (?) but maintains a schedule which also helps him know what’s coming. The deafness does not bother then at all.

Jim finished his heartworm meds on Sunday. He went for his check up at the doctor yesterday. Just got word that he is doing great! Everything looks wonderful!”
We are very happy for Jim. Thank you again for all your help! I will keep sending updates as I get them.”

America – Update

7/8/14  – 4paws1heart’spuppy “America” who is going to require about 30 days of treatment to take care of her skin condition. She was diagnosed with Demodex Mange. A very kind unselfish woman found her in the middle of the street and thought she was intentionally burned or mauled. She said no one else would come close to the starving little puppy. She spent 2 hours on the phone trying to call places after-hours and no one would or could help. I’m happy that we were in a position to help and happened to be at the right place at the right time, but it doesn’t feel like we can ever put a dent in the problem that exists with the need for helping strays with medical care especially these after-hour emergencies. If America would have been on the streets much longer her open sores would have soon been infested with maggots. It has been five days of us treating her and she is still actively bleeding from her sores, but she is looking much better. This picture was from today. Her little tail does not stop wagging and she is full of kisses, appreciation, and peace..

Devoted Barn Animal Rescue stepped up and took America under their wing today to foster her as we provide her medical treatment. We are extremely grateful for their help. I have a pretty strong feeling that they are going to spoil the heck out of her. Just like so many others she deserves a chance…

If you are reading this please, help, share, reach out, and get involved in the overwhelming need to save one life at a time.. We can not do this without your help! Thank you!! ~ Gina

Helping Our Fellow Animal Advocates – Meet Sheeba

7/2/14 – Dog Aide is a phenomenal organization who performs community outreach, assists with rescue, and maintains a pet food pantry. 4 Paws 1 Heart is always happy to help them in their efforts. We will be delivering 101 pounds of dog food for use in their outreach program and sending medical dollars for help with Sheba. Unfortunately, Sheba is still struggling to recover from Parvo and you can keep up with her progress on the Dog Aide fb page. Here is her sad story: ~ diana

“This is Sheeba, she is only 14 months old and another victim of the horrible Parvo virus, it’s on the rise in the City Of Detroit, we are seeing more and more cases of it in several Detroit neighborhoods. Dog Aide friend Margo Schmidt who spends countless hours in the City helping dogs was notified about this poor girl and she rushed out to pick her up, Margo took her to our vet Canton Animal Hospital where they confirmed the diagnosis of Parvo, in addition Sheeba also has a large laceration under her neck, with 15 to 20 old healed smaller lacerations. Parvo treatment was started and her laceration wound was clipped and cleaned.
Sheeba needs your prayers to help her through this deadly virus

Sweet baby girl needs a love and a home.

This beautiful but emaciated female was rescued by Wil L., a friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart. She was wandering the streets with no identification, emaciated, and with a few wounds on her body. She will be seeing our friends at Patterson Veterinary tomorrow to be tested, vaccinated, and eventually spayed. We are proud and thankful to have one more sweet animal saved and never having to live a life of abuse again.

Forever Home needed for Sweet Jane – Can you open your heart & home?

You may remember Jane?? It was Jane’s very sad story that was the catalyst for our friendship with Mutts of Motown and I think the first time we helped them with medical bills. Although 4p1h has many of our own medical bills right now, we will always help our rescue partners who help us in placing animals for whom we provide medical treatment. Jane has a special place in my heart. And, although she doesn’t require the medical help we just provided for the dogs rescues by Mutts of Motown, I wanted to take this opportunity to once again share her story. Please share and let’s find this very sweet girl her forever home. Here’s her story. ~ diana

“Jane has been in rescue a year and a half. She was stray and living with a pack inside an empty house in Detroit. A well meaning neighbor was feeding them all. One day the entire pack turned on her and attacked her. We were called and when we arrived poor Jane was bleeding out indide the house. The snow outside was blood red and she was transported to safety. She was treated for her hundreds of puncture wounds and it was discovered she had heartworm too. We saw her through all of it with the help of our vet and our supporters. She’s one of our best behaved dogs. She’s understandably nervous around other dogs. She must be the only dog, she has a fenced yard requirement, and older kids are fine. She walks great on leash and is perfectly housetrained. Please inquire about Jane by calling (586)690-2808

Beautiful Bella gets a chance!

Thank you for saving me Nicole

Meet Bella. Our good friend, Nicole, rescuer of many, contacted us about this beautiful blue pittie. A very kind woman found her wandering the streets in a very tough area. Bella is only six weeks old and, of course, when we were asked, we agreed to pay for her vetting, vaccinating, and testing. When the time comes, we will pay for her spaying. As I’ve told our supporters many times, 4p1h will always follow through with spaying/neutering and then the adopter is on their own for future medical needs. Fortunately, the rescuer of Bella has no pets and is very excited to make this very sweet girl her forever family member. ~ diana
