1/10/17 – We were contacted by Make A Difference Rescue asking if we could help with a stray dog they had just rescued the night before. Palmer was thin, dirty and holding up his rear leg when a volunteer for the group came across him. He was immediately taken to Wilson’s Veterinary where it was confirmed that his leg was broken, probably hit by a car. Palmer is very sweet and we are happy that we could help give him a second chance at life.

Ali (aka Bentley) – Happy Update — Look at How He’s Grown
Peanut – Update
1/1/17 – Happy 2017! One of my many struggles (besides fundraising) is to balance the happy beginning updates with our current efforts. But, being it’s another new year and the fact that we have so many new followers, I thought I would start it off with an update on Peanut. It was 2010 when Peanut was brought into the emergency where Gina was working. As you can see from the photo, he was like a stuffed animal without the stuffing; he couldn’t even lift his little head to eat. Gina and the phenomenal staff helped Peanut survive and eventually the perfect mom was found. Peanut’s mom recently tagged us with this photo of Peanut and his grandma. ‘Mom’ said that Peanut is really not as big as he looks in that Grandma is so small. We are so very happy we were able to give Peanut that second chance at a Wonderful Life. Your donations at work. ~ diana
Dig Dug – Update
12/31/16 – It is the last day of 2016 and with that I would like to share another one of our favorite stories. This is about Dig Dug.–This sweet guy was running scared in July, 2013. After one hour of being chased the only way to get him out of danger, as cars were weaving around him, was for the police to taser him. Some good people, who had been leaving church, witnessed the incident and agreed to take in the dog and find help. Although the couple rescued mastiffs, they couldn’t use their rescue’s dollars to help this guy and called out to other rescues for financial help. Fortunately, they were referred to us and we were happy to help. The good news was that the tasering did not result in any permanent damage and all he needed was an exam, vaccinations, and neutering.
The Happy Update: Dig Dug was eventually adopted by the daughter of the woman who referred the rescuers to us. The daughter and I have continued to stay in touch and here is Dig Dug’s transformation and his most recent photo of being in a motel on his way to Colorado for a vacation with the family. Happy New Year to Dig Dug and the Wolf family.
Moose – Saved from Certain Death
12/29/16 – Meet Moose. We were happy to help him through his emergency and we are very thankful to our friend, Megan, of Friends of Scooby Rescue for saving this handsome boy. ~ diana
” Moose was on his way to animal control so I stepped in and found him a foster. He was skinny and not feeling so great. We started to fatten him up and then he had a mild seizure. After speaking with the vet we were told he could not be treated for a seizure unless it was documented or witnessed by staff. A week later another seizure surfaced but was only witnessed by a child.
Fast forward 2 weeks. 2 more undocumented seizures.
Wednesday night we were finally able to record a seizure but the vet was already closed. With the help of 4 Paws 1 Heart, Moose was seen at ORVS and treated for his seizure. They did blood work and an exam. And he was given Phenobarbital for the seizures. We follow up in a few weeks. I’ll send an update after he is seen.
We are very thankful for Diana and 4 Paws 1 Heart. -Megan”
Oats (aka Danny) – Found Wandering the Streets, Bleeding with Multiple Puncture Wounds
Meet Oats (aka Danny). On a frigid December day, Oats was found wandering the streets. Emaciated, with multiple puncture wounds, chewed areas from another dog and bleeding pretty badly. Fortunately, the right people came along and rescued him. When he was taken to the vet, it was determined that Oats is heart worm positive. Although we have to wait until he is healthier, 4 Paws 1 Heart will be paying for his heart worm treatment. And, even better than that — Oats’ foster family wants to adopt him. Everyone, including the fur children, has fallen in love with his sweet nature. It’s just been 11 days but look how much better he looks after some love and care. As a village, this is how we save lives and reduce the number of homeless animals. ~ diana
Maisy – RIP Sweet Girl – Found in a Home with 17 Dogs
12/27/16 – RIP Sweet Maisy. An 8-month-old Jack Russell Terrier, Maisy was confiscated from a home 4 weeks after her owner had died. Maisy, along with her mother, Daisy, were two of the 17 animals that were also confiscated from the same home. According to the Rescue, Maisy was “acting like a typical puppy, playing, being bossy, cuddling, being goofy…till one day she just became ill”. Maisy had lost her appetite, and became very lethargic. The Rescue took Maisy to the veterinary and they found that she had a slightly enlarged heart, and had stage 4 out of 6 heart murmurs on both sides of her heart and her temperature was 104 degrees. But her blood work came back normal, except for her white blood cell count which was only slightly high. So, the doctor thought Maisy was fighting off some type of infection. At that point, the Rescue contacted us to see if we could help with Maisy’s increasing medical bills. Although we couldn’t commit to paying all of the bills, we agreed to make a sizable payment in hopes of giving Maisy a second chance at life and love. Over the next five days, Maisy seemed to be doing better and started eating again. But then, it wasn’t long before it started up again — vomiting, not eating, high temperature. She continued to be taken back and forth to the vet and, sadly, just 8 days after we were initially contacted, Maisy died. We know she is no longer suffering but it is always heartbreaking when no matter what is done, God just seems to have a different plan. We were glad we could offer some assistance to Care Rescue and we thank them for everything they did to give Maisy a good life and giving her love in her final days. ~ diana
Cookie – Christmas Story
12/25/16 Christmas Story #2 – It was December 3, 2012 when we received a call about a dog standing on a rock in Lake St. Clair, the cold waves lapping over her. Because no authority could help, Tony climbed down the sea wall and rescued this wet and frozen little girl. My neighbor and I immediately took her to a nearby veterinary where 4 Paws 1 Heart covered her medical. Her body temperature was very low but fortunately, she had a microchip, and no other injuries. The owner was eventually contacted and we learned that Cookie had been missing for 5 days. We have no idea how this little dog got into the water in that the sea walls are quite high where she was found. Cookie was back with her mom by late that night.
Now — There was a Christmas twist to this tale. It turned out that Cookie’s owner actually lives next door to the house my grandparents lived before they died and she had been a tremendous help to my family in offering rides to the doctor and the grocery store. She always kept an eye on them. When I found out who Cookie’s owner was, I was convinced that my grandfather played a role in Cookie’s rescue. The next day we were having lunch at the Butter Run, St. Clair Shores. When my drink was brought to the table, it was in a vintage glass just like the ones my grandfather had given to me before he died. I think Grandpa was saying “Thank You” for saving Cookie for her mom, Alberta. Merry Christmas. ~ diana

Larry and Ashley – Tied Up in Frigid Temperatures Behind a Vacant Home
12/20/16 – So many animals are not warm and loved during this brutal winter season. Fortunately, there are hard working people who will do whatever they can to rescue those who have been left behind. This is Larry and Ashley. They were found tied up in a yard behind a vacant home. All appropriate notifications were made but no one has stepped up. Fortunately, a friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart has taken up the challenge to find them forever homes, and we are taking care of all of their medical care. At this time, our paws are crossed that they may have already found their forever homes, once they are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and tested. ~ diana.
