Ginger – She Roamed the Street With A Shot Gun Wound and Heart Worm – Update

2/8/16 – I wanted to start your work week with another Happy Beginning. Some of you may remember our girl, Ginger. It was last March, 2015 when I was contacted by a woman who had rescued Ginger from the street. Ginger had been shot and appeared to be in great pain. Arrangements were made to have her taken to the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center where she would be seen by a very special veterinarian, Dr. Graves, and overseen by Gina. It was determined that Ginger had many bullet fragments in her hock and, unfortunately, she was also found heart worm positive. The surgery had to happen because Ginger’s wound was already infected but the fact that Ginger had heart worm, made the surgery very dicey. Ginger made it through surgery, and when she was stronger, the heart worm treatment began. Much to our delight, our good friend, Brendan, was following her story and decided to adopt her. Fast forward to almost one year later and here she is — healthy and loving life. We are so happy for this sweet girl, she has the best dad!! Here she is today and when we were first contacted.~ diana

Carlos – His Tumor Was Cancerous

Chance

2/6/16 – Sad news about Carlos but we are committed to him and we won’t let him down. Here is Chance’s update. ~ diana

“Hello Team Chance! Soooo, We have the results of Carlos’s tumor that was removed and sent out. Carlos has Spindle Cell Sarcoma, which is a type of cancer. Although the tumor was removed, apparently there are still remaining cancer cells. These tumors can pop up anytime and they grow very aggressively. This type of cancer can occur in younger animals and likely was the cause of the tumor removed when he was with a previous owner as a kitten causing the majority of his tail to be removed and the cause of his latest tumor that was removed and the remaining 3 vertebre of his tail. Carlos is estimated to be 9yrs old now. Due to his age and the commitment required to care for him, Auntie Di and mom feel its best that Carlos remain in the 4 Paws 1 Heart Family where 4 Paws 1 Heart can be sure his medical needs are met and he can be loved and cherished the way he deserves. Carlos also needs a stress free environment preferably without other pets so his needs and happiness can be the main focus. So until that purrrfect home is found and decided upon we will continue giving Carlos all our love. We will keep you up on our sweet, sweet boy. Love & Purrrs, Chance”

Shih Tzu Five – Brought to Gina at Only 1 Week Old – Update

2/6/16 -YOU DID IT!!! Thank you to all of our generous friends and, of course, our Secret Valentine. We reached our goal of raising $2,000 which will be matched. I can’t express how thankful we all are for such wonderful, supporting friends. Along with this good news, I just want to update all of you on the Shih Tzu Five. Again, Thank YOU.

I’ve been calling these cuties the Shih Tzu Five even though they are Shih Tzu/Yorkie mixes. They all have names and there is only one who has not yet been spoken for. Please don’t be too disappointed with us if you applied for adoption and wasn’t accepted. Gina feels very strongly about having fenced-in yards, as well as making sure the family/home will be the perfect fit. She also does not believe in releasing them too early, even though they didn’t have a dog mom to train them, Gina, Amanda, and their animal crews have fulfilled the role of moms. Thank You, once again, for helping us make miracles happen. ~ diana

Missy – She Lost an Eye After Having Been Hit By a Car

2/4/16 – Happy Beginnings – Some of you may remember Missy. She was brought into the emergency in February, 2013 after having been hit by a car. Her jaw was broken and her eye had popped out. Fortunately, Gina was there and 4 Paws 1 Heart agreed to take on the medical treatment. After several weeks in recovery, our good friends at NBS Animal Rescue took her in and today Missy is in her forever home. This is Missy when she first came into the emergency and, now, in her forever home. It truly takes a village. ~ diana

Carlos – He Could Have Died After a Burst Tumor

2/2/16 – Only through your donations can we make miracles happen. Meet our latest miracle, Carlos.

This is Mr. CarlosCarlos2:2:16Although we didn’t know much at the time we got involved, this very sweet boy had some real challenges. We don’t want to go into too much detail because of the manner in which 4 Paws 1 Heart became his savior but let me just say, the hospital staff fell in love with him and we had to give him a chance. The information we eventually received indicated that when Carlos was a kitten, he had a tumor that needed removal and it resulted in most of his tail being amputated. Fast forward 5 to 6 years later, and once again, a tumor developed and went unnoticed until it burst. At that point, Mr. C was very much in danger and, once again, needed almost immediate surgery. After three days of being held in a hospital waiting while money could be raised for his operation, we were called in to help. On the fourth day, Carlos’ burst tumor was removed and the remaining stump of his tail was amputated. He went to a great foster home the next day for recovery. Thankfully, his foster mom has had a great deal of experience with recovering animals and within a couple of days noticed that Carlos was not moving his bowels. Carlos again had to be returned to the hospital where it was determined that he was blocked. Again, a very dangerous situation for a little guy which resulted in another overnight stay in the hospital. Carlos  is now doing well. He is warming up to the foster house and is starting to heal. We still do not know anything about the tumor but we should get results this week. Once again, it was the work and donations of a village which saved this sweet guy’s life. He will one day need a forever home who can make sure he will never be in this position again. Remember, when you take on the responsibility of a life, it comes with a commitment to provide food, shelter, love, and medical treatment. ~ diana

Hope – Rescued from a Barn with 50+Cats

1/30/16 – Please pray for Hope. A friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart rescued her and at the time, we prayed she would make it for a few days. We asked for your prayers, and our little girl has continued to fight the fight. She had a very severe upper respiratory which will result in losing an eye but she hasn’t been able to have the operation because her upper respiratory infection has been so stubborn. She was very emaciated, which didn’t help, when she was rescued. Here is an update on this sweet baby who will eventually need her forever home when she is well. Thank You to Debbie N. and Missy G. for rescuing and taking care of her. ~ diana
“Some of you may have heard of Hope it’s not pretty. But her eye had to be surgically opened. Hoping now afterthey cleaned up, these antibiotics and eye drops will clear her up. Then she will be ready for her spay and if needed her eye removed/closed. Prayers for her though. She has been through many rounds of antibiotics. She was too weezy for anesthesia to spay and remove or close her eye today but she needed to have her eye cleaned out of any infection in her eye and allowed to seep. She will be checked back out in a week. Warm compresses every few hours and eye drops and antibiotics. She is just the sweetest little thing you wouldn’t know she had to be in miserable pain from her sweet demeanor. Just another reminder on how much compassion and love animals can show.- Missy”
